Waterbury native here. For the most part, what you get in Waterbury is not so much hardcore ghetto, but a tired, worn down vibe, a former industrial city that's never quite figured out what to do now that most of the industry is gone.

That industry has been gone a LONG time. I had jobs in the late 70's moving the brass mills out.

I have friends in Litchfield CT that I visit from NYC quite a bit, have to take the train into Waterbury. The place is busted, just a depressing run down city... No restaurants, businesses, industry, etc. Sad.

Every city has a bad part in it. You have to look for the good in every city. Even Bridgeport and there are good parts there too. Bpt native.

And people be buying houses up there. I have family that moved from NY and bought a house their and it's a dump to me. Not the house but the area they could have stayed in NY.

This has to be the worst town in New England because of all the trash, blight, abandonment, and cheap repairs and alterations. I mean, it's not anything like Detroit (yet), but it's getting there.

Hartford, Bridgeport, New Haven, Springfield, Holyoke, and Lawrence are worse than Waterbury crime wise... Despite some of those cities having more potential, better downtowns etc

I live next to Bridgeport CT. That is way more Detroit-ish than Waterbury. It is the king of abandoned buildings, boarded up windows, wild dogs, gas stations without pumps, poverty, and crime. New Haven is CT’s best city.

New Haven is also a mess bro. Don't let these "nice" houses fool you. They really rotten and have about 3 different families with a whole bunch of struggles in em. New haven at one point was the 4th most dangerous city in America in 2011 according to the F.B.I. It was a warzone where you could lose your life over the colors you wore.

Im 10 miles north in Thomaston and no one from Wtby has ever heard of it. Just 10 miles that just cracks me up. Also makes me very happy that no one from Wtby knows about it

I used to live up that way. Coventry to be exact. Waterbury is far more worse than Willimantic. Last summer someone was shot across the street where I live and in November someone got stabbed in my driveway. I never heard a gun shot before moving here. I would take Willimantic over this armpit

I pulled a dog out of this 3 family in wtby. The house was all boarded up. The drywall was in the driveway and had been there a few years. A whole bunch of people were living in there. The dog was cracked out or something. As soon as he got out he went mental in circles and then started chugging down this black oily puddle in the driveway, of course which he later threw up all over my back seat. Great dog though. Named him Tater and he lives in a Bristol suburb and has a hot mom..
