Thanks so much for being here! YOU asked for it, so I've worked hard to deliver. In this video, I'll show and tell how I use Princeton Dagger Brushes.
Princeton brushes are hands down, my favorite tool of the trade. These brushes allow me to paint freely and intuitively, creating organic shapes full of movement and flow. I love to overload my dagger paintbrush with water and allow the watercolor pigments and the water to mix freely on the paper. I love the beautiful dance created by this process.
All of my favorite brushes are available through the link below. You can find more from my on my website and via Instagram.

As an artist, I found myself riveted on leaving the brushes in the water. Rinse and lay them down always. The outlines detract from the beautiful flow. Otherwise, thanks for an inspiring video. Loved the techniques.

I LOVED this teaching video! Ty so much! And great job! Now, I have a couple of the dagger like brushes, not the Princeton’s, and they don’t work basically. Plus, this is harder than it looks and I’m going to have to practice, I can see that. Now, off to buy the brushes and ty so much again! I’ll be watching and practicing with you’re video for days I’m sure. I love the strokes that you get from these brushes. Gorgeous. I have big plans!!! Happy Day to you!!!

Your work is lovely! And I adore your approach to the process--that you're more focused on the process than controlling outcomes. Watercolor is a medium that I love, but have rarely used. It's been calling out to me over the last couple of years, though, and I recently decided it was time to pull some out to play. I'm so excited that the algorithm just happened to recommend this video--it was totally inspiring! Looking forward to exploring this method. Thank you so much for sharing!

I thought I was the only one who used dagger brushes almost exclusively in my watercolor paintings. I have many brands (love the aqua elite), and sizes large to 1/8". I just love the exquisite mark making a dagger can do. I also love using my dagger striper brushes - the ones used for pin striping on motorcycles - the very short handles are such a pleasure to use to get very unique marks. It takes practice with these, as they r extremely soft. Very lovely video!!!

Excellent video, well edited, great info, and dreamy painting. I bought a set of 4 sizes of Kingart daggers after watching Kristy Rice paint with her own brand of daggers. I love working with mine. Definitely prefer my larger sized ones like yours to the tiny quarter inch on. I also have a Cheap Joe’s Scroggy Loose Goose Dagger Striper that is absolutely uncontrollable and fun, but gives a completely different effect. I think the daggers are helping me improve my florals and negative edge work. I just subscribed!

I have the Neptune one, and I never use it. I should of gotten a smaller one, but loose painting intimidates me even though in,one the look of it! I may have to try a smaller aqua elite version. I love aqua elite! Not gonna lie, I had a bit of a heart attack seeing you leave your brushes sitting in the water! That was one of the first things I was taught when I started watercolour! Beautiful use of these brushes. I love the loose flow between the warm black (Payne's Gray) and the olive paint. I'm experimenting with dagger brushes and it's a thrilling new area of watercolor. Thanks for sharing and comparing these 3 kinds of bristles. I am worried for you, though because you seem to be leaving your brushes not only soaking in water, but with the tips crunched against the bottom of your water cup. The water could soak up into the glue holding the bristles in the ferrule and dissolve that glue. And the bristles could get permanently bent if you leave them sitting bristles down in a cup. Also, I'm really hoping that is a striper brush (making stripes) rather than a stripper brush because this is a family channel. Haha. Very nice content. Keep sharing! Thank you.

Thank you very much. This was very interesting especially the way that you showed the different brushes. What surprised me, because I am a newbie, is the soft pastel and how you could make it look as though you’re doing a nice wash with it. One question is once the pieces complete. what do you need to do to make sure that the pastel doesn’t come off? Do you apply a fixative, and what does that do to the watercolors if you do? 2nd question - what brand of soft pastels do you use, & why do you like them? I really loved your presentation and it inspires me to go and play and be much more relaxed in my process. Thank you.

Love this!! I use a spray fixative on all my works on paper, 100% of the time if there is pastel. My favorite is the Blick Matte Fixative. My favorite chalk pastels are made by Rembrandt. I love the color selection, and the texture. They’re dreamy! Keep on playing!!
