In this episode of my Watercolor Shorts series I show my method for creating grass textures. You will see how I achieve several different effects by using very simple but extremely effective techniques. This is a very revealing little demonstration with a lot to offer. If you have ever wondered how to create convincing looking loose style grasses in your watercolor paintings then this is the video for you.

Howard- I follow 3 watercolorists on KZfaq and have added you as my 4th go-to watercolor artist. Your work and your teaching make for a rich experience to those of us that want to learn. I especially enjoy the verbal explanation as you work through a painting. Obviously, I’m a big Howard Jones fan! Thank you for keeping my desire to learn alive.

I've been watching your demos now for a little while. You seem to gain so much confidence in your explanations whilst demonstrating. Excellent.

lovely... been immersing self in w/c...borderline overload yet something in yr demo strung everything together for me...not that my execution suddenly morphed from beginner to mastery, rather the knowing improvement is a continuum...ty.

Good topic for a short video, Howard. Also, I've been wanting to mention that the higher definition videos add a lot of quality, so thanks for making that shift. It makes a huge difference when the specific textures, wetness, etc. can be readily observed.

Thanks Matt, that's very helpful! The Thursday videos are recorded from my live Zoom tutorials and that is why the quality is not so good. Zoom recordings are very low res. It would be good if Zoom were to do something about this. If you know of any way to improve the quality of Zoom videos do please let me know! Thanks again! it's nice to know that these things get noticed! 👍 Howard

@@howardjones2159 Oh, right. Yeah, as far as I know Zoom just is what it is. I was on a demo once and people were complaining about the focus of the camera, but I think they just weren't used to the Zoom resolution factor.

Lovely effect, will give this a try! Can I ask if it was W&N Indigo or Daniel Smith, or anything else? W&N and DS are quite different so just wondering!

Hi Alison. Actually, I'm pretty sure it was W&N. I use various brands but mostly these: W&N / Shinhan / Mission / Daniel Smith.
