Help support this channel and get yourself a really cool piece of KZfaq memorabilia by purchasing a play button cube on our website linked in the video description. Plus you can also enter our giveaway where we’re giving out a trip to come meet the whole Waterjet team. FAQ: Why do we have a weird entry system with “10x entries”? It’s for legal reasons, you can’t legally do just a good old-fashioned giveaway, you have to abide by certain rules, such as the rule that there needs to be a free tier.

The original buttons were made differently and have a noticeable heft to them. When suddenly scores of people were reaching a million at once it seemed they changed how they were made to meet demand and cut costs. I remember Matpat said on a Livestream long ago that the newer buttons for the sister channels felt light to his original million button. Well, these days YT is very much hatred by the audience for several reasons. Smearing massive ads into our faces, fighting a war against adblockers, censoring channels which have the wrong opinion. I have a bookmarking system and I have collected hundreds of YT bookmarks - nearly half of those are not working anymore and the link just says "Account suspended for policy violations" or so. And I didn't bookmark any hateful crap, just good, helpful videos. It's also insane how much of the money donated to YT channels actually goes to YT and not the creators. In the end this is big tech VS. creative content creators. They are so greedy, it also shows in this video, with the plywood.

It actually makes sense to me why they would do it like this. They made the actual play button from solid metal, while only having a shell for the display part. The reason they do this is to cut down on the cost as much as possible. If it was made entirely from metal, the cost of manufacturing it would be exponential, not to mention the cost of the metals as well.

yeah, the billions they earn every year and they cant afford to actually make a damn proper decorative piece thats at the very least decent. looking at the material i can make a rough estimate that it cost them about $80 at the very most to make and thats counting labor cost and shipping because lets be honest we all know youtube is using child slave labor in china to make those. there is no excuse for such shitty construction.
@starberry847
@starberry847 4 ай бұрын
I get it, but lets say they would use iron, it's only nearly 1.50$ per kilogram, so even if for example they would need 20kg to make a button its only a mere 30$ and nowhere near 700$ they charge for a second one (thats plywood mostly too lol) and aluminum like they use for the actual triangle in the play button is also only around 2.50
@fenrirgaming37
@fenrirgaming37 4 ай бұрын
@@starberry847 It's more about the cumulative cost. While it's true that small amounts of iron and aluminum are indeed cheap. Those prices still add up, as they send out these play buttons and displays to any YT channel that hits certain milestones. This can easily get into the thousands of dollars, and let's not forget the weight factor as well. Iron is dense and heavy, then there's the cost of processing the metal as well in order to make the button, display and everything. It's far more economical to make a shell for the display, rather than making it entirely out of metal. So the cost of the display and buttons is a combination of material costs, processing, assembly, and labor. YT also has to commission these displays and buttons from companies and/or shops that specialize in such things, so their also paying those companies/shops for their services too, so it's also a means of cost reduction in order to keep the displays and buttons from being a detriment rather than a positive.

That’s a mattress manufacturing warehouse that’s why you see old mattresses stacked, they recycle/ reuse the metal springs. As for the bales of foam on 7:30 those are used to make memory foam/ foam pads for the beds. The foam bales come from scraps after the foam bale (weighting 1000+ lbs) batches are cut to size and rejected pads too. I’m sure they are familiar with Leggett and platt/ elite comfort solutions in Ontario so cal, Canadian owned companies. Just in case anybody was wondering.

I really doubt that after accounting for costs, with the garbage ad rates of post financial crisis, they are making a huge amount of money on a random channel with a million subs. I have actually made plaques like these a couple of times. If it is hand-made $700 isn't too far from reasonable even if it's not made out of metal. Now I suspect youtube wouldn't have them hand-made when they could easily be mass-produced and just have different names etched. I mean, who would cut a $700 play button up to check what materials it consists of? But just so you know, when it's small-scale production someone is going through the trouble of making that mdf (hdf in this case I think) get the right shape, polishing out any imperfections by hand, applying the finishing to make it look metal. It's a lot of work and skill often to make one single plaque for someone. Actually, it would probably be easier to just make a metal play button than to make one mdf play button that looks metal by hand.

Solid gold? Seriously? Just one pound of it is over $22k and we're not even including manufacturing costs to make the actual button. You must be genuinely thick in the head to think they should make these out of solid gold. There's over 30k people with gold buttons, so think about how ridiculously expensive it would be to send everyone a solid gold play button.
