I lived in San Rafael , Ca, home of Spectra water makers, for many years. I had a spectra water maker on my last boat but never installed it. Unfortunately I had to sell my boat and move back east to take care of my elderly parents who have now passed on. Now shopping for my new boat an essential piece of gear I want onboard is a spectra water maker. Thank you for well thought out and practical video Well Done Bravo!

This is exactly what I needed. I watched this a couple of years ago... but now were 200 nm off Vietnam heading to Subic Bay (Starlink is so cool), and only 'sort of know how the Spectra system works...' Of course we really want to know what's going on. "Ah, the pressure relief valve was left open...." I was given brief insctruction at the dock. "It's all automatic. You don't need to open that valve." "You don't need to open that valve." "Oh, maybe you do need to open it..." (Spectra makes a great product but the manual jumps in too deep too quick. Really appreciate the step by step and the diagram.) Working great now. Thank you James, really appreciate it.

James you seem so knowledgeable about so many things it really blows my mind kind of a jack and a half of all trades. You seem so young to have picked up so much so fast. When I first started watching you I thought you were in your 20's, now I am thinking pushing 40,Naw your in to good a shape for forty, and Kimmi I was figuring 20 if that, but she speaks three languages and is as game as my wife was when we were young.

Great job on this instructional and educational video James, and Spectra is a Huge name in water makers, using a design that is both brilliant and boater friendly. Have to get over the shock of those two super good looking cleaned up people early in the video though, as they didn't look like the live on the boat people we have come to love. Know this was an important part of being able to travel further w/out restriction, and glad to see it added to Zingaro. Hope things are continuing to go well for you two.

Hey James, Thanks for a great video. We live on an Island part time and actually need a system to convert brackish water to potable. Based on all I've seen and read, I think we may very well find what we need with a Spectra product. We've got abundant sunshine so solar will be be used for any power need the system may have. Here, in "Hurricane Alley", the system could literally be a life saver. Thanks guys!

I can’t tell you how many sailing and synthesizer channels I have unsubscribed from after finding out people have secretly sold their channel out through faux opinions purchased by some undisclosed manufacturer! What i said was i bought a Swiss military one because i have a bus motorhome. The US. Gov sells them like u had on a sub and small portable ones. But looks great i just can't afford that kind of money. Always great videos.

GREAT review and install info. Well organized. I am about to start mine up after years of disuse. I bought my boat with the system installed but winterized and it has been unused. Likely ruined something. I guess I am in for a 600.00 filter replacement? Will find out. Your review has helped motivate me to getting off my butt and getting this done ... soon : ). one of the issues for me is that I am on the Oregon Coast, and most marinas here are all at the bottom of rivers and so silt is an issue. You're NOT supposed to run these things in areas with high TDS (Total Dissolved Solids). This is my BEST excuse! : ). Thanks gain for the video!

Dam that's one awsome system, I was amazed at the simplicity and ease of use. Having the salinity sensor automate your tank feed as well as the option to have tank levels recorded on a non bladder water holding tank is outstanding, as is the ability to make water directly from solar, keeping it independent from the ships engine's.. Well done, this will serve you guys amazingly well when you tackle some long crossings to remote islands. Being to totally self suficent will open up some incredible locations. Blue sky's and following winds 👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Having bought a boat with a Spectra (Catalina 300) and lived on it for 9 years in both fresh and salt water I can confirm both the product and the company are great. Many parts are off the shelf too, making for easy and economical replacement. Definitely recommend the MPC control panel. Makes the entire operation cycle real easy.

I always look forward to new zingaro video and I say yay to myself knowing I'm going to enjoy it thank you both for all your hard work sharing your life upon the ocean I've had four sailboats myself and have lived on all of them I've also been crew first mate delivering catamarans for very wealthy people the longest Voyage I've ever been on was from Fort Lauderdale Florida through the Panama Canal to North Shore Haleiwa Oahu Hawaii on a lagoon 440 and none of these vessels I've ever had or ever have been on had a water maker and you have convinced me that Spectra watermakers is the way to go you can tell Spectra they'll have a new customer just because of your informative video you ran through that like you were the designing engineer for Spectra I plan on buying a catamaran soon and can't wait to get back on the ocean again thank you both for all the enjoyment I get from your videos and like it's been said before Fair Winds and following Seas to you both James and Kimmi

This may not apply to many sailing craft but I'll mention it , on a trawler I used to operate we ran a drain line from the air conditioner evaporator into a drum to catch the water that condenses , it would make more than 20 litres per day and was fine for laundry etc. which extended our tank water usage .

what a great video James, you covered it in very good detail. It's obvious those people have their shit together. I've heard their system costs more than others but after watching this, it's obvious why! They use quality parts including the electrical connections which I'm familiar with. Also obviously a very well thought out, & well integrated components. Nicely done and you cleaned up nicely, I'm sure having an endless supply of water is going to make life much more enjoyable on board. I talked to Tom Christian several times on Pitcairn years ago via Ham Radio, a lot of interesting history there and interesting how people have continued to live there in spite of the hardships. No real anchorage is going to make it tough but they usually sent out a craft to bring people in who are visiting. Seeing your ingenuity, I'm sure you will figure out a way to make it happen... LOL. Smooth sailing.

Note that if you invert the Clark pump in any other way than flat, you must re-orient the salinity detection to have the salinity sampling on the bottom.

This was one of your best videos ever. Seriously. I've see another sailing channel use one that came in a case and it was very simple to use. But you explained the whole process so well. I have one question, can you substitute a pressure gauge on your bladder tanks to shut the system off when the bladders are full? It should just be a set of contacts so the water maker shouldn't care. What do think? Excellent episode. You're going to make a great ambassador for them. I heard Sailing into Freedom, Peter and Margarida want to meet up with you guys whenever they get to the other side of the Panama Canal. Great episode. Safe journeys from snowy Syracuse NY.

Good question, Des. We wanted to get the least expensive option with a Clark pump. The 200T is the same pump, but with a bigger Clark pump, making ~2gph more water. For us, the most important thing was being able to run it off of the 300W of solar we have. The 150 is perfect for that. The 200 would be equally as good, but at a higher price point. If you are worried about producing more water, or having redundancy, the Cape Horn version is pretty cool. Check that out. Good to hear from you! Big hugs to You and Jordan.

Great video James. Kim is awesome too! I’m sure you have done your homework and this is the best water maker. Is it reverse osmosis? I used to maintain a system on a ship in the Canadian Navy. 😍🇨🇦 This one looks amazing and way to go on getting that sponsorship. Just a thought... make sure your engine gets proper cooling and running both doesn’t starve one. You don’t want a burned out pump (on the water maker side) or an overheated engine. Quick fix: run one or the other. ONE LOVE from Vancouver Island. ❤️🇨🇦
