Ive only just found this channel Jem, and it reminded me of our first bungalow in Holywell back in the days of terry towelling nappies, with those bloody awful woven liners. Those buggers would catch on a grain of sand, the number of times my wife would flush them down the toilet and say " I'm sorry love I forgot",when I was up to my neck in sh**e. She did learn eventually when I made her help me. Watching her gag was priceless ! ✌❤ Bob.

This answers my question about whether kitchen paper is OK... I did think it was a bit tough ! Will try and avoid doing this from now on. Typically it only goes down when i've had to clean up pet accidents with it! (Or ran out of proper bog paper in an emergency!)
@louisemassie
@louisemassie 2 жыл бұрын
Oh WOW! So you've tossed paper towels down the toilet? Good Heavens. Just bag it up and toss it outside immediately. "There is no try, only do," Yoda says that. Believe it or not, since my last septic cleanout in 2019, I've barely tossed any toilet paper either. It's very strange, but it all goes into the trash 🗑
@jaycee1980
@jaycee1980 2 жыл бұрын
@@louisemassie No, not paper towels. Here those are what you call the thick, usually blue paper towels you get in public bathrooms. And those go into the bin. Also, not America.
@louisemassie
@louisemassie 2 жыл бұрын
Right, so sounds like what y'all call a paper towel is what we call an automotive shop towel -- which is blue. A kitchen towel (what we call paper towels) are for kitchen cleanups and go into the trash. Push comes to shove you might use them as toilet paper, but you can't flush them. I suppose the bottom line is that only toilet paper belongs in the toilet. Hopefully, you'll never have a clog again 😎

I'm so confused by how plumbing works in the UK, we don't have these kinds of manholes in our backyards here in the U.S.
@royordway9157
@royordway9157 2 жыл бұрын
Here in Bath, Maine most man holes are in the streets but there are some in the low laying areas in back yards. The sewers are gravity fed to a pump station then pumped to the treatment plant, puddin factory. Some of the man holes are 2 feet deep and some are 50 feet deep. I have never seen private manholes in peoples yards. I've been a carpenter for 46 years and have been in a lot of yards.
@spencerwilton5831
@spencerwilton5831 2 жыл бұрын
Much of the UK housing stock was built well before modern plastics and similar material existed. You couldn't install a preformed plastic inspection chamber as they didn't exist, neither did plastic pipes. Drains were clay pipes and brick chambers were built at junctions. Flexible drain rods didn't really exist either, so drains were laid in straight lines with an inspection chamber at each change of direction so they could be rodded if required.

I was going to ask you about the gravel rock. Recently I have watched 1 or 2 video's (not yours) and the plumbers allowed a ton of stone into them. Never cleaned them up the job was done. We have put people on the Moon, made various types of communications for people and doctors yet they cannot make a freaking quieter generator??? WHY? Someone should design like a border around it. That would allow the look of the stone but keep the stones away from falling in system. Add a small plastic kiddie shovel to help in scooping that mess.
