In this video we look over the Wauke or Uechi-ryu circle block. This block is multi faceted with many applications. We will be breaking this technique down in segments since it has so much to offer. This was the first martial art system I took seriously and my first black belt. I am very happy to share it with you all!

Just found your channel. I like it, I subscribed. I really like your having him show pulling back fast, that a grab is still good.

I incorporate a foot pin using my foot to pin their lead foot as I enter into close trapping range using this parry & control waza.

Nice. Just a little advice. Try to put the fingers of your "uke" hand as a claw. I´ve been doing Uechi since 1991, and still have so much to learn and fix. Continue the great work.

Uke really means " receive" not so much " block" or stop. same as the attacker- he's receiving your defense.

I haven’t heard the term “UKE” used as an attacker since I read a book on Japanese Jujitsu. Great instruction, thanks. I like the “just touch” Perry to get use to the technique; and if you miss the grab, you’re still ok.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Practicing the move as a perry is what got me to the level where I could use it at full speed.

Yea, I dunno I've just never been a fan of that block. At least not as a whole anyway. It might work if you first block with an inside forearm block and then use it but I feel like trying to just use that one by itself against a really skilled puncher or someone full of adrenaline would be asking for multiple punches to the face or body. I feel like bobbing, weaving or simply just keeping your hands up would be more effective imo. That's just me tho, I'm sure there are people who won't agree and that's fine.

I agree that this being the only block you know probably isn't smart, but if you can use it in conjunction with what you talked about it works well. It's also great at closing distance. I'm going to do a uechi series on this channel next. Ill go into more detail on how I would apply it. Maybe there will be something you will like.

Whatever the technique you use, if the puncher is skiller than you, the technique won't work. It doesn't come from the technique, it depends of the comparative skill level of the opponents.

Notice your second cross block,you lead with your fingers. I was taught to lead that part of the block with the "knife hand" side of the hand.

I’ve seen it done both ways. But I’m also a kickboxer where we parry with the palm/ finger side so I might be influenced from that.

HEY HOW DO YOU LIKE UECHI COMPARED TO OTHER MARTIAL ARTS
@StrykeTeamOfficial
@StrykeTeamOfficial 16 күн бұрын
@@98chicagobears I think it’s more the training environment than the style. I love where I started but I’ve also seen places I would have probably quit if I had only trained there. I also really enjoy shorin ryu and spend most of my time in Muay Thai/ kickboxing because I compete. I think it really depends on what you’re looking for and if an instructor in your area can give you that. However, I do like the simplicity of the system and I find a well done uechi kata to be my preferred style of kata aesthetically compared to a Shuri-te based system.
