In this video I give an overview/tutorial on using the Center Plugin from Waves, which allows you to isolate your center material from side or stereo material in a mix, or individual track.

Excellent tutorial! More than just a demo like you suggested. Three remarks: for the first few examples continuing the sound and toggling the plugin on and off would be preferable than stopping playback and restarting after enabling the plugin, like you did with the last few examples. Secondly, how does this plugin affect mono compatibility? I can never get that right... And lastly, could I use this plugin to collapse bass content to the center to "glue" the stereo together without disturbing the panning effect, eg. when you have hard-panned guitar on one side and bass on the other?

You can also get free voxengo msed and do the eq stuff with logic's stock eq ;)

Is this plugin necessary if you mix and master your own material...seems useful as a mastering tool but what if you balance the vocals and instrument in the way you want before mastering, is this plugin necessary? Thanks!

Not necessary unless you get a sound source that is too wide, or you don’t like the stereo balance. If you mix your own stuff just don’t go to crazy with the width and imaging and you’ll be good.

its on sale for $29 right now, i would grab it if I were you before it goes back up if its a tool you can utilize..just my 2 cents worth, most of the free stuff out there in general is somewhat buggy and you cant go wrong with Waves IMO especially endorsed by legit mastering professionals.
