Thanks again for another Octavia mk3 video, fixed my drivers side heater flap motor & still have my face intact 😂 with your help. Now I need to remove alternator & fit new one, already replaced tensioner after recently new belt snapped, had slight idea that it was the pulley on the alternator that was causing it & yes belt is dancing about after new belt fitted. Not got the tools to just remove the pulley so new alternator getting replaced as it’s over 10 years anyhow. Great tip with insert bolts & hit home to help fit back on. Will be taking off today & fitting new valeo when it arrives from eBay 140amps. Thanks again

You're very welcome 👍 On a previous engine generation ( Euro 5, before 2016) it's slightly different, little bit tighter. There is an intercooler pipe that's in the way and can be disconnected. I think on those you don't need to take tensioner out, but if you need - it's held by single bolt from behind. Also, if it's too tight, like on my Sharan - I remove bottom central engine support and push engine back a little bit.. Iceland! My dream to go there one day! I'll get my WheelsAndMotors going and start travelling... 😎

Though I have already removed mine, waiting for new one to arrive. I did mine exactly how you did it (2015 VW TDI Passat 362,000 miles- American model) I am glad I saw your video because I was unaware that I may need to push the bushing back into the mounts, I can't imagine how difficult it would have been not knowing that- and that is actually what I have been worried most about, gettiong the new one in. Really great video and step by step process of alternator removal, this is probably the best how to video on this job, I've seen some where people are putting into service position, and removing the Intake flapper/EGR assemblies off the intake, removing the radiator fans..etc. No you don't touch the front... This is the proper way to get to the alternator from the wheel arch and get the compressor out of the way and its simple. I did my alternator on Jetta TDI sportwagen after this and it went easy. Great video and great tech tip on pushing the bracket bushings in .. Thanks..

I don't have any experience with engine head, sorry. I've missed your question about alternator in your previous comment. You do it pretty much same way as I show in Skoda Octavia video, but it's a bit more tight. If anyone wonder what he mean by "spline bolt" it's XZN (also known as 12-point and tripple square). Hopefully the tensioner is as simple to remove on my CAYC / 1.6TDI Bluemotion.
@wawayltd4 жыл бұрын
I believe that with CAYC engine tensioner won't be in the way. I had a car with CAYC 1.6 tdi Seat Altea. Same as my Sharan with CFFB, tensioner is held by single bolt from behind. However, CAYC and CFFB tensioners were not in obstruction. It is a bit tighter for space though. My tip - remove pendulum support arm (bottom engine support), so you can push the engine back a bit and that will give you enough space to wiggle that alternator out.
@mbc19944 жыл бұрын
@@wawayltd I appreciate you took your time to comment, but I watched your video because I have to replace the tensioner. I Was hoping it was this type and not held with a bolt from behind, because I was thinking in doin it in the driveway. But thanks, I will have change the plan a bit.

I had a garage change my alternator today, since then I've noticed my heater blower is not working. I've checked the fuses and they are fine. I've now checked the coolant level and this was empty but engine has been at 90 degrees. Do you think that the lack of coolant and heater issue related to the changing of the alternator? I've had my timing belt and water pump changed around 12k ago no issues until today. I know some alternator changes require removing coolant hoses. Any help would be appreciated
@wawayltd3 жыл бұрын
If they would have to remove coolant pipe, they would have to re-fill it. Not sure what car are we talking about, I didn't come across pipe disconnecting situation. Maybe your new water pump has developed tiny leak? Sometimes they put grease on pump seal and that may eat rubber a little. I know I have done it in my past videos, now I'm trying to prevent people from doing so. After all that said, I'm not professional, so might not know what I'm talking about 😏

Looks like your alternator is not charging. Should be over 14V, or sometimes when it's brand new before brushes bed in it can be 13.5... If it's saying "no communication to alternator" maybe there's something wrong with connection to voltage regulator?
@wawayltd3 жыл бұрын
No. Brand doesn't matter. You can fit any alternator that matches part number, also amperage must be correct. I think for Sharan it's 180A. This alternator in Skoda video is 110. But it looks like yours is not even trying to charge for some reason.. Does it have a warranty?
@pascalmanchego77712 жыл бұрын
