In this video we show you the third stage of the Camino de Santiago de Gran Canaria. We leave from Cruz de Tejeda in the municipality of Tejeda at an altitude of more than 1500 meters to descend towards what was the first capital of Gran Canaria: the city of Gáldar or Agáldar. It is a route of 22 kilometers with a positive difference of 450 meters and a negative of 1800 meters. The start of the stage begins with a great climb that will take your breath away with views of the Sacred Mountains of Gran Canaria, Roque Bentayga and Roque Nublo. Then we will walk through the Pinos de Gáldar passing through the Montañón Negro Natural Monument and the Caldera de los Pinos de Gáldar. The descent here is quite steep and along volcanic gravel trails (we call it picón in the Canary Islands), so we recommend a shoe with studs to avoid slipping and for better grip. Later we will pass through several mountains where you can get closer to the rural life of Gáldar, areas of livestock and agriculture. You can make a stop at the Monte Pavón recreational area, then we continue descending next to Caideros de Gáldar and the entire Altos de Gáldar cheese factory area. We will also pass through the town of Saucillo where we will make a fairly long stretch along a secondary road. Then we will begin to descend towards the historic center of Gáldar along an impressive hillside also with a lot of slope, prepare your knees and quadriceps!
It took us 5 and a half hours to do the third stage at a good pace, with a half-hour stop to eat and take the different video shots. We recommend that you do stretching on arrival to avoid that the shoelaces are very hard the next day, the descent is very steep and, therefore, can be harmful.
