Waylon's voice is a gentle as a lamb on this song. It's almost like a lullaby you could sing to your youngin's. Nice job Waylon. RIP. Thanks for posting this Slashheri.

Black Jack Davey was an old English folk song from the early 18th Century about a squire's wife running off with a gypsy. If he looked and sounded like Waylon no wonder she left her husband and baby !

old ballad with as many different versions as there are artists who've done it. let's just say Waylon never met a song he couldn't do with flair. love the guitar pickin' in this version. look up a fellow by the name of Arkansas Red who does a slightly different version, but with a cigar box guitar. just enter Arkansas Red Black Jack Davy in the search box. I think you'll like that version, too.

Woodie Guthrie did a version of this song called "Gypsy Davy".. I like it alot better because he changed alot of the lyrics, but the song is basically the same.

@DiggityDave83 There are several versions of this song (Raggle Tangle Gypsy, The Gypsy Rover). He might not have changed the lyrics, it might just be the version he learned.

BLACK JACK Davey. Not Jack Black. Purposefully misleading, and down-voted accordingly. Boo.

Old old song many versions this may be the one Waylon learned as a child from his parents.
