A nigh perfect Country record.... Two step, quality lyrics, beautiful chord progression and melody, dynamics, a savage hook and a real singer/songwriter ... That Harmonica is the nuts on this version.... Everley Brothers and Emmy Lou on back up... Come on!! .... Dream Team....

Got to see him in person back around 2000 when he played in my home town of Farmington Missouri at our country days. He was a man of many words. They had him play at the fair grounds outside the city limits because you couldn't drink beer in town while watching him.He told the city council that either let people drink beer at his show or he wasn't playing...so he played a mile away at the stock car track. My wife and I had a front row seat and our cooler and it was worth every minute. He told everyone he was sorry about the seating but if someone wanted to drink (him too) than by God they played for it.What a show.

1:48 is Paul Yandell. Long time backup and peer of Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed and a damned fine picker in his own right. He passed on recently as well.

In most cases Waylon's live performances are faster than his recordings for some reason and I like them better that way (faster). I can't even listen to the recorded version of "Are you ready for the country" anymore...
