I'm a Man United fan, so I love Wayne Rooney for what he did for my club, but I was really pleased for him when he got the chance to go back to his boyhood club. My favourite Rooney memory for what he did for Everton was the goal against Arsenal in 2002, and when he played for Everton at Old Trafford and he took on a few of our players and had a shot and United fans applauded his skill. Brilliant interview.

Wow the things we learn when Wayne shares how he really feels about our club. What a master, and what a player. Agree with some who have shared, we would have been so different with him at the club had he been able to stay. Has my vote if he comes back and managers us. Has that Goodison mentality.

When Motson said "remember the name" he was absolutely spot on. Now we can all say "we'll never forget" . Although I never saw Dixie play [I did meet him at his pub in Chester] I did watch Alex , loved Bob and Duncan but Wayne was as was commented probably the best English player ever , certainly the best Everton player , such a pity he wasn't able to have a Le Tissier type career.

What I'm hearing here with Ronney's exit is what I've suspected for a long time at the club, and why we have been through so many managers and underperforming for so long. Decisions, are being made 'upstairs' and not by the managers. The club is in disarray and has been for some time. The board need to take responsibility and stop sacking managers. Frank will now be the next victim of this, while their decisions are destroying the club. Its a mess, and they need to be made accountable and stop hiding behind managers.

Im always sorry for rooney and his relationship with everton football club, yes hes gone on to have one hell of a career but the one thing he truly loved "the club" forever let him down, as a kid as soon as we knew we had a gem they put him on display to sell him for profit to balance the books, then on his return he gave all he had to help us and improve the mentality of other players to be a winning mentality and they dont give him more then 12 months and dont even tell him hes up for sale prior. I think honesty should have been the minimum he deserved and was never shown the same affection he had for everton back from them. hes had his fall out with us all in the past sure the kissing the badge to our fans in a united shirt etc but i think more player would have given up on their home club if they were treated the same yet everton was always still his home.

Excellent interview, really love the channel. Rooney is a football icon, and there are great moments and memories from both of his spells at Everton. But I can’t help but watch both of the interviews with an overwhelming sadness about what could’ve been. It might be a cliche/simple thing to say, but every time the romance of Rooney at Everton was ruined, it seems there was a clear cause: money/finances. I think that says a lot about the poor management of the club.

I remember the first time I saw Rooney play in the flesh it was at Joe Parkinson's testimonial and the opposition had a corner it was headed out and he picked it up on the edge of our box ran the full length of the pitch and scared them to death I just looked at my mate next to me and said "That boy is special" he was just 16 at the time in my opinion he never became the player I thought he would when he went to Utd I have yet to see another one like him he was pure raw talent.....

Weirdly Wayne Rooney's goal against Arsenal is the reason I have any interest in football at all. When I was a kid I honestly didn't care about football at all. As far as I knew there were 4 teams, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea. Everyone seemed to support one of them. I asked my dad who he supported and when he said 'Everton', full on like the Accrington Stanley advert I went 'Everton, who are they!?' I didn't even know they were a team in Liverpool for years! He'd have us on TV from time to time but I never paid any interest. If anyone asked me who I supported I just said Arsenal so they'd leave me alone and apparently I just had to have a team. One day before school we have the news on TV and the headline story is Wayne Rooney's goal against Arsenal, and I still remember burned into my memory the commentary 'oooooh brillliant goal, remember the name, Wayne Rooney' and when I went to school everyone was talking about him. Someone off the cuff mentioned he was an Everton player and I thought 'isn't that my dad's team?' Anyway sort of started watching more bits of it here and there but still, no real interest. After Rooney left, it's the season we finished 4th and I started watching more games with my dad. The moment I became and Everton fan was Arteta's cross to Dunc against united. Weirdly though it still comes from that moment, my earliest Everton memory and probably one of my earliest football memories other than Beckham's free kick against Argentina is that goal against Arsenal. Basically what I'm saying is Rooney, this is all your fault 😂

Still not really sure why we sold him the second time - he's saying it was 'the club' but the manager and the owner weren't saying anything so what was the deal - was he on too much money?? When we tried to & eventually sold him. Why didnt he tell them he was going to stay. Why didnt he do what others have done like Tosun, niasse, walcott, Bolaisse etc.. Tell them simply, he wasnt going to leave and would run his contract down. Everton would have had to offer him a new contract. We were not going into administration, no premier club has or will. And anyway his value only increased season on season so we would have been better off. The finance thing was a smoke screen I hope he doesnt manage us, no more unsuccessful managers. If he did manage us & done well, he will be off to man utd, as thats where his children are. that would leave us in trouble again.
