Don't Buy The Kaotica Eyeball Until You Watch This! | Kaotica Eyeball VS Alctron PF8
The Kaotica Eyeball claims to be a replacement for a vocal booth and acoustic treatment in your studio. Does it work? And how well does it stack up against the Alctron PF8, a cheap knockoff for about $30 compared to the Eyeball's $200 price tag.
From the home studio setup to the commercial studio facility, this could be the answer to getting cleaner, consistent vocal recordings.

I have kaotoca eyeball for about 3 years now. Only uses in untreated rooms and open areas in the house. Always get great audio quality. It reduces the reverb/echoes going into the mic which makes it 100% easier to clean up in editing, vs not having one.

Glad you did this.. I made my own and I use it to travel when I'm in different states and hotels... I paid 25.00 on amazon for the same size foam ball as the kaotica. Made a exact replica...and it works really well on the road.....I already had the drill to cut both holes, but if you don't ..you will end up doing a rough "hand job"-no pause..lol..but all in all you can do it for less then 30 as well...but to me..30 is not a bad spend for the same result ...

I have the towsends lab L22 (which I highly recommend) their new update includes the isosphere which is software specifically aimed at using it with reflection filters and have presets for the Kaotica and Generic Chinese ones. It eliminates the colouration and other issues that come with these things whilst maintaining the subtle benefits. Really been impressed with it

@spencerarnold669
@spencerarnold669 2 жыл бұрын
@@loveinparis333 Do you mean price point? or point in the process? It was actually a free update which was included to the main bit of software to emulate all the mic library. But yeah it's more than just matching eq (although even having presets on each filter to get it to a neutral point would have been handy) It has a lot of other algorithms at play which take out early baffled reflections, responses and takes into account proximity to give you the cleanest studio sound possible. So it really does a lot at a click of a button It's not a main selling point of the Mic and software by a long shot but just a handy extra and incredibly effective

Ive been using the Kaotica for a couple years and have been happy. One thing to note is it'll sound a lot better if your room is semi treated *as i think he mentioned* I mainly picked it based off a different review I saw a while back showing quality differences which honestly could've changed a bit since then for the Alctron. Just make sure there isn't a ton of backround noise wherever you're at. Been using the Kaotica in a hotel I'm staying at and you can vaguely hear a generator sound, sounds better than it would've without it though.
@jgoodman95
@jgoodman95 3 жыл бұрын
I have both the alcatron and the kaotica eyeball in my opinion I like the eyeball a tad bit better than the alcatron but I say to the ones who do choose to go this route for both set ups and the best quality in vocals have something that can absorb the sound behind you as well for the maximum performance. The kaotica have a nice crisper sound the alcatron only by a little bit but it can easily slide pass anyone’s ear between both of them at first. But the alcatron has a bit more high end of a sound resonating in the vocals, and like Wavy Wayne said the kaotica do have a bit more low end so you might need some bass traps as well. Regardless both of them gets the job done.
@lancejonesmusic
@lancejonesmusic 3 жыл бұрын
I would have loved to hear them both with your pop filter in front as well because I heard major low end plosives in both foam products (still, I heard all I needed to to make a solid decision). That being said, I have Slate ML-1 which requires as clean, non-coloredof a signal as possible (It emulates very expensive and vintage mics with the signal it records) and the added bass in the Kaotica Eyeball seems to be adding more color than without anything at all and the PF8 seems to have much less color but still a little. I think the products are too small and are causing a focused sound that causes built up bass, the proximity effect of the walls of the products similar to when you get closer to a mic. That is not good if you do not want color. A larger treated room is obviously going to be superior as it will not cause that coloring effect. I recommend a SE Electronics type of reflection filter or a DIY MUCH larger acoustic foam product instead of these. You just prevented me from buying either one on this Christmas day. I built my own 25 bass traps for a fraction of the cost of Auralex or bass traps I could buy from a company and they work amazing - 25 bass traps and some DIY labor for about $700. It looks like I am going to make my own reflection filter as well, save a bunch of money and have a superior product that will not color the sound like these products obviously do. THANK YOU FOR THIS REVIEW MAN!

He’s correct tho. The Alcatrons plosives are a little hectic along with the S’s. But if ur on a budget it is better than nothing. Also with a treated environment, BOTH are phenomenal. However , I’m still going to tell any and everyone to go with kaotica if affordable. Always use want industry artist, engineers , and producers use. That can be the first hint of all things. This video is def def def dope asl tho. Good work bro very informational and in detail 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼✊🏽✊🏽.

Additional pop filter is still needed and that wat i was listening to. I think this is an easy DIY project but for that price the cheap one is good enough. Great video.

I have the Alktron, but before I bought it I made my own version with a giant tennis ball from walmart... cut a hole int the side and one in the bottom and lined it with mattress foam. It worked pretty good too and seems to have a lil louder signal than the PF8.

First of all thanks for the video bro 😎 it sounds like all you need to do is use the extra pop filter with the Alctron. You were saying people don’t need it with the Kaotica Eyeball but with the Alctron you do.

Kaotica definitely set themselves up for failure trying to charge damn near illegal prices for a piece of designed foam probably costing them only $8 to make. it was only a matter of time for knockoffs to pop up on the market.
@ChopavelliLive

The Kaotica was louder and gave you better signal but I honestly thought the Alctron sounded better! The Alctron gave you more of a studio polished sound without doing anything to the vocals. Maybe it was that additional pop filter idk. Thanks for the video, been in debate about getting the Kaotica and I think this video help me make my decision.

Thank you for this video. For any budding VO talent, keep in mind that either of these will make it a little difficult to read copy _and_ record directly into the microphone. And as someone else has mentioned below, they do tend to make your voice a little 'boxy'. Bottom line(s): 1. These would be really handy for portability and if you haven't treated your recording space for whatever reason. 2. _Heck_ no I wouldn't spend that money on Kaotica's balls. _I would resound this more emphatically, but like Wayne said, it's a family channel_

I think the loudness difference is attributed to the distance from the mic. You were a little closer to the mic using the eyeball and PF8 due to the built in pop filter. When you recorded without them you recorded about inch away from the pop filter. I think the eyeballs allows you to get better distance from the mic due to built in pop filters.
@RoncaBaixo

The testing was good, but wavy was actually further back when he rapped off the alctron. Therefore the actual waveform did seem quieter than the kaotica eyball. Either one would do the job

I bought a studio spares ISOCUBE (Based on your review) I use the pop filter and mesh doesn't sound too bad at all. Used fewer plugins then usual just Butch Vox and a little EQ and compression with some analogue Delay. Sounds nice and warm.

While I appreciated the test of the products sound, we did not get to hear how it deals with noise in the room. This would have been done by increasing the input level of the mic and listening for silence. I use a VoxGuard and that's the first thing I do when setting the mic to record. I wanted to hear how much room noise the mic pics up. The point is, from my perspective, to get the mic as hot as possible without peaking it and shielding the mic from outside noise no matter how hot it is. I did agree that the directness of the units is a good thing. Hearing the directness of the mic I like. I think I might get the Alctron just for that and the fact that it's waaaaaay cheaper. I ain't payin' no 230 bucks for some foam. To tell you the truth, $30 is a lot for a ball of foam, but I guess you are paying for the tech more than anything.
@CALIBA88
@CALIBA88 2 ай бұрын
the product is to absorb reverb. noisce shielding in that way never was the idea behind it and would be mad dump, considererd we can CALCULATE how ineffectiv such an attemp would be. the product is not even doing what it promises, kinda opposite but i was allways about the reflections of the room, never to record while somebody maws a lawn near you and not having noice. also how hot do you need your mice? get some voice. i speech can use noise cancelation algos and music has music to plaster over. if you do not record in an MRT there should not be THAT much noise.

Honestly for what I do if someone gave me those three choices for vocals I'd go without either of those devices. I love that little bit of room sound in a vocal if it fits the track and you can make it fit the track with gobos or blankets. I guess it could be helpful if you were in a room with those loud multiple early reflections.
