Becky explains how she pays for her homestead. She explains the difference between a homestead business and the homesteading lifestyle.
Your goal should be to lower your bills, and live a simple life so you don't have to work 40+ hours in the rat race. If you can support yourself with a part time job and come home to build and enjoy your homestead, that is a lifestyle worth pursuing.
There are a lot of ways to make money, you can have a part time job, or start your own business. But no matter what you do for money if you go small, you can live big!

Let me tell you, I've had money and I've been poor but money does not buy happiness. Only God makes a human being happy. It helps to have money but money should never have you.

@@rebeccagutierrez1401 "only God makes a human happy" by that logic you have no control over your feelings. Having a crap week just blame God and hope he doesn't make you feel bad for a longer period of time. I have alot of atheists friends who are happy. Its due to eating right and exercising. You can't expect to be happy if you're eating junk and being lazy.

I have a few friends who live off grid. I am fortunate to live on a four generation family farm. I live with my grandfather who is 88 years old and my mom lives next door. That makes seven of us, co-existing and thriving, taking care of our plants and animals. We are working towards creating a self sustainable system. I am not there yet but I'm getting closer and closer each year. We are working towards becoming debt free. My husband and I are both college educated but the loans are within 14 months of being paid off. I can't wait accomplish that goal. I love living on our homestead. I quit my job four years ago when we moved from a tiny apartment in Seattle to my grandparents farm, so I could be a stay at home mom/farmer/homesteader and I have no regrets. I have had time to raise my girls and take care of my family. I recently found your channel and have really been enjoying your videos. :o)

No but my goal someday is to have people volunteer from around the globe. I have an old tree house that needs to be lowered on the ground and it would make a perfect tiny house if insulated. The famous double rainbow KZfaqr takes in volunteers on his farm.

You have no idea who I am, first of all. Second, I'm not mooching off anyone. I actually took care of my grandmother for her final two years of life. Otherwise, she would have died in a nursing home. My grandmother is no longer here but I'm working every day, taking care of my family, caring for our plants and animals. I did not waste my education, I just value family and feel I can best take care of my family. I don't want to pay people to raise my kids and not see my kids 10-12 hours per day. I'm not asking anyone to envy me. I choose to live a more simple life. I might not make money but I am rich with abundance because I grow food, care for others and spread LOVE. This world needs love. I have done amazing things with my education, by the way. I have discovered cataclysmic variable stars and white dwarfs, published in the American Astrophysical Journal. I also worked for Bill Nye. I am the type that likes new challenges and learning new things. Right now my goal and dream is to live a more simple life, a more self sustainable life. To me, that is priceless.

this is exactly what I want to do. the plan is to buy in Hawaii in the next 2 years an already established property with fruit trees etc. we will have chickens and goats, but no large animals. worried about making enough money to cover property taxes and unexpected medical bills etc. advice is welcome.

+prittykitty1985 Yes, you have to research property taxes, that is the only reason I stayed in California- Proposition 13- it keeps taxes down to 1% of the value, so the cheaper you can get a place the cheaper your taxes will be which is important long term, because things may only get worse in our country.

Being a single father raising my kids in this rat race I have done lots of thinking on my future since my kids are now older. I am thinking about grabbing an RV and buy some land and park it there. Then build a barn cabin and solar it out best I can. Then Run a type of business for some income. I have got to find peace and this is my only way. To write music out in the woods or away from it all would be a dream.

Some good info in this video. One thing to keep in mind is the more animals you have, the more financial responsibility. To take good care of animals, there are bills--particularly vet bills that you can't predict. One illness or injury can set you back a thousand or more. I had two horses have serious health issues in 2015 and the vet costs for them were several thousand. The alternative would have been to let them die or euthanize them. Even with prompt vet care, one did have to be euthanized. I see Becky's four horses/mules and see a potential bank-breaker. There are ways to feed them cost effectively, but vet bills are unpredictable and definitely something to think about when trying to cut your work hours back to the absolute minimum. Might want to think about limiting the number of animals too or building up a big "just in case." fund before you do.

I have kept horses for 20 years and have never had a problem, injury or illness. Learning to manage a homestead well is a skill that involves good safe animal pens, a good simple feeding plan and keeping the whole homestead wormed. ❤️🐔🐷🐝☀️

+Becky's Homestead His point seems valid, however no one would own a single animal with his attitude. We have decided which animals would warrant a vet bill and unfortunately other are euthanized. He forgets that one animal and one big bill can wipe you out (same difference as many animals/one bill.) I want to do what you are doing. The pressure from family and society to grow a big bank account and work, work, work until your dead is the only option they believe in. They think others are crazy. I have to muster up the courage and do what you are doing. Thanks for your videos and inspiration.

+Dorothy M. I farm, we have many different animals. We can fix most animal problems ourselves. There are few times when a vet needs to be called. I can tube feed a sick calf, give shots, birth a llama, castrate a pig or a goat, set a dislocated goose leg, stuff like that. Things that I don't know, the farmer down the dirt road does. One of my neighbors brought over his disbudding equipment and dehorned the baby goats. I draw the line at AI (artificially inseminating) the cows, call the vet for that. When we need a vet, our county vet is not as pricey as you'd pay near a town. I don't think becky's over her head. She seems to be doing a great job and I love her videos.

Becky I love all your videos! You have inspired me to start looking into having my own homestead, I'm in my mid 30s and I can't stomach having a huge mortgage, spending the rest of my life as a slave to corporate america, drinking the mainstream Kool-Aid. I honestly believe that now is the time to start living self-sufficient , people at work joke with me that I sound like gypsy, I laugh back at them that they are clueless and should slow down on the mainstream media kool-Aid lol who would not want to be self-sufficient living a happy healthy life doing what you want working for yourself/homestead. Thank you so much for all your great videos, I have learned so much.

Love that you made this video. This is what is not discussed when it comes to homesteading. People talk about getting your homestead and how to select a homestead, but nothing on how to actually live week to week, month to month, year to year on it. I would only add that one has to figure in how they are going to have health care. Insurance is usually not available to part-time workers. Hopefully, if one is able to go part-time and still cover all their expenses, it's not while expecting others (i.e. the government) to foot health care for them.

Great channel.. I also live in Florida not a home stead but a small farm (but live like a home stead).. I have started out with watching your videos and inspired me too.. I don't have horses or mules but I don't have to feed my tractor every day.. lol I have found out that raising turkeys and chicken can be profitable (did not say get rich) but it pays for all the feed for all animals and have some left over for trees for orchard.. I buy 2 older trees to start off since they are more pricey then buy younger cheaper trees that will take few years to mature.. found making raised beds from scrap tin that I get from friends leftovers (2 feet tall by 2.5 wide and 10 feet long) it keeps all the good soil in the box. Florida has sandy soil gets washed out easy.. you don't have to bend over (killing your back) pulling weeds, and the bugs don't seem to get to the plants as much and are able to see plants closer for infestation or diseases.. looking into a lawn sweeper to pick up leaves and grass clippings to get a bigger mulch pile going.. found out that piling cardboard under leaves and grass clippings with coffee grounds brings a lot more worms.. just water once a week if it hasn't rained in awhile.

I'm an at home Dad, and my wife makes good money at what she does, but the bills do dictate our lives, so we end up with barely enough time to relax, and hardly any money saved. I believe as we grow older we know the answers to are problems, and know what we need, but most are to caught up in a life that was not planed out, or thought about enough; probably because of wanting instant gratification, lol. We have the answers in our ❤️. By listening to others; like this video, it gives me the opportunity to tap into my dreams and desires, and make it simple to make the happy life that I've always wanted.

The reason that most people are not happy is that we get bored with objects, no matter how beautiful or big they are. For many of us, homesteading gives us the variety and changes we craving for, a growth in learning and and advancement. A reason to wake up every day to something new and exciting even challenging a bit 😂 Love your channel Becky ❤🎉

One thing I would recommend that Becky did not touch on was use your skills to derive some extra income. If you have skills or knowledge in any area look around and figure out a way to market them and yourself. If you have an old pick up truck and a trailer, a chainsaw or a good lawnmower you can always cut wood for extra cash or mow some lawns. I have a neighbor who has a tree service, he hauls several trees every year to his farm and burns them in brush piles. If you were to work with him, I bet you could have a firewood business and make a good second income just off of the wood he burns off every year. If you know how to do office work or have book keeping skills you can often find work from home. Just look around and place an ad in the paper. Individuals and small businesses often need someone to do the "busy work" for them, so they can concentrate on whatever they are doing.

This is my dream, Becky! Thank you for making a video detailing what's important for making it happen. I'm in professional school now, but hopefully someday my husband and I can make this happen despite my massive school loans.

I started watching your soaping videos a couple years ago, i think 2015. The people I was hanging out with thought I was nuts. Now I'm selling stuff locally and still dreaming of my own land. If you did it I can. I'm a single mom with a full time job and I'm trying not to fall apart. You inspire me thank you.

Becky , I am 70th years old and I am downsizing. I am going to sell my 3 bedroom 3 bath rouse and buy about an acre of land and put a tiny house around 400-900sq. ft., just enough for me and in the mean time I am getting out of debt (i hate debt). I would like to have a few chickens and ducks, and a few sheep. I would like to start my own blog, also, and I love to knit, crocket, container garden, write, draw, make things out of wood, canning and enjoy the simple life. dallas, texas has become to crowed and unpolite. I love your Becky homestead and the tiny house preppers. Be Blessed. Ria

I work part time. No car payment, hardly any bills, grow a garden, hunt and fish! It works! Also, buy food at discount places. Don't buy anything unless it's on clearance!
