From WBIR Knoxville and Klein&, a series of high energy promos highlighting the station's switch to NBC happening in the fall of 1988. News talent and syndication stars are seen explaining the switch and a catchy new song A New Beat of the Heart.

I remember these commercials running through most of the summer of 1988. WBIR got the sweet end of the deal moving from a then distant 3rd place network (CBS) to the #1 network (that ended up staying there for almost 2 decades)

The 1988-89 Fall TV Season had "A New Beat of the Heart" in an Knoxville affiliate switch, WTVK Channel 26 (now WVLT Channel 8 formerly WKXT since 1988 on the VHF band) switched from NBC to CBS, and WBIR-TV Channel 10 switched from CBS to NBC, and 2 NBC Daytime game shows "Sale of the Century" and "Classic Concentration" were not aired as "Donahue" and "Sally Jesse Raphael" remained on WBIR-TV's Daytime Lineup Schedule. And some NBC Daytime Game Shows not cleared by WBIR-TV Channel 10 would've aired on a UHF independent station WKCH-TV 43 (now WTNZ Fox 43) in Knoxville.

This was around the time when WBIR-TV Channel 10, in Knoxville, was transitioning itself from a CBS affiliate to an NBC affiliate in the fall of 1988! After spending 32 years as the Eye of East Tennessee, WBIR suddenly began rubbing elbows with NBC's beloved Peacock! And how! NBC was America's most watched network in 1988, and suffice it to say, something had to change! God, I was almost four months old when WBIR went from CBS to NBC! And so far, in 2017, WBIR is still NBC in Knoxville!

We finally have promos highlighting WBIR's joining of NBC. They couldn't have picked a better time to join; NBC was at the top of their game then. :) September 10, 1988 was when the switch happened.

It was pretty clear that WBIR wanted to divorce CBS, and marry NBC that bad! And how! NBC was America's most watched network back in 1988!

WBIR has been the #1 station in East Tennessee for years, and back in 1988, NBC was the #1 network on primetime! So that's why!

That's right, Jean! WBIR was CBS until 1988, when it moved over to NBC! WTVK Channel 26 was NBC, but once Channel 10 became NBC, it went over to CBS, and then changed its call letters to WKXT, as well as moving over to Channel 8! It is now WVLT!

WBIR is not owned and operated by NBC. Even after the affiliation switch from CBS to NBC.

who owned WBIR in 1988? I know that NBC10 is now owned by Tegna (formerly Gannett) sister station to another NBC affiliate KUSA in Denver

like WLWT Cincinnati and KSDK St. Louis (Both NBC affiliates). WLWT is now with Hearst, and alongside WBIR and KUSA, KSDK is owned by Gannett (now Tegna)

So, J! at 5:30 and Wheel at 7. Kind of unusual; but it begs the question, what did they air at 5 and 7:30?

Local news probably would've been at 5 (and 6). My family vacationed in the area a year or two earlier, and I remember that odd split of J! and WoF--with the Bill Rafferty-hosted Card Sharks being carried, at that time, in prime access.

Back in 1988, WBIR aired "Jeopardy!" at 5:30, but now it's on at 7:30! Back then, "Family Feud", with Ray Combs hosting, was on at 7:30! And "Wheel of Fortune" has always been on at 7:00 on WBIR!

Hey, I live in Knoxville! I prefer Channel 6 and 8. I don't really like NBC. IMHO, They started going down hill when Parks and Rec and The Office ended (Two of only THREE good shows in that reality show format, IMHO... third one being The Muppets, for obvious reasons) and Leno retired. Only good thing on now is AGT and NASCAR... at least they're finally listening on not fucking up Olympics coverage...

Yeah, well, it's pretty obvious that NBC isn't as much of a most watched network in America anymore as CBS! And you're right one thing! NBC has really gone downhill since good shows like "The Office" and "Parks and Recreation" went off the air! As well as shows like "The Cosby Show" "Cheers", "The Golden Girls", "Seinfeld", "Frasier", "Friends", "ER", "L.A. Law", "Law & Order", and all that!

Well, you're right the first time. WBIR is NOT a NBC owned and operated station at all. Nope. It's ACTUALLY being owned by Tegna, Inc., who by the way, happens to also own and operate many other local stations across America including WXIA TV, 11Alive, in Atlanta, GA, WTHR TV, channel 13, in Indianapolis, IN AND EVEN my very own hometown NBC affiliate, WCNC TV, in Charlotte, NC.

Exercise me wbir tv NBC 10 is a Knoxville sister station of wfaa in dallas kvue in Austin kens in San Antonio and khou in Houston they are owned by tegna.
