In this episode of BTT, we take a look at a knife maker who is newer to me: WC Knives by William Collins. I've only purchased 3 of his knives, one from him directly, one from Great Northern, and one from the used market. His blades are tough use tools for the true outdoorsman.
Purchase directly from William Collins here: www.wcknives.c...

We must of found wc around the same time. Watching those field test vids from Will encouraged me to get into my local woods on a weekend basis. Testing myself and the knives I was buying. I own his personal mw2 that he released to me after he started the run. Compared to other go2 woods knives from established custom company’s it shined as the most versatile. The concept was to make a compact kukri. Then allowing the woodsman grind to really do most woods task with ease. Later after the woodsman jr was born he unleashed the grind on many models after and continues to do so with high success.

I have a lot of respect for William Collins. He never just made knives to make knives. He found where knives were lacking, he tested them out, and then decided to fix those issues he found with his own knives. Then he tested them and tested them and tweaked them until he found the right knife. This is how all knives should be designed and made, in my opinion.

I currently own three and waiting for his folder to be shipped in 2021. Since he really don't take custom orders anymore due to workload I wait for his monthly specials. If I see an exotic handle I like I wait for the moment they go on sale and frantically race to the submit order button. You better be prepared. Exciting! The craftsmanship is superb.

I know exactly what you mean. That's what I had to do to get the Blackbird in green sure touch. I had to hit refresh over and over until it popped up available and then frantically order it. Definitely made my heart race. Haha!

@@SurvivoTek Yup...it get's the heart racing. I always put the sheath in the basket and then hit that refresh button. The exotic handles are my thing and we know that goes quick! One of my favorite is a WoodsJourney with Burl handle and green puppy paw pins. What a beauty!

I have two knives by WC, the Woodsman Jr and the Blackbird. The 11 degree angle gives a heck of sharp bevel. AEB-L is rated very tough, and you are right about the heat treatment. I had never had a multi grind knife blade before. That is an awesome sheath, albeit still a bit stiff. Really gorgeous. I also had some issues on the website. I admit I have not used the 2 knives much yet. I am working cutting limbs, brush, vines, etc., so I use Busse Swamprat, ESEE 6, or Benchmade Bushcrafter Sibert 162. They work well slashing small limbs, cutting vines, etc. Good mini-review of WC.

The Jr Woodsman and Blackbird are a fantastic pair. I know it's overkill to carry both in the woods with me, but I almost want to just because they're both so amazing. Thank you so much for the views and support, my friend!

@@SurvivoTek : The WCSK; the Blackbird, and if I can still find one, his kukri or Northern Woodsman Elite Chopper. (The kukri seems out of production and the Northern Chopper seems out of stock. ) I'm really intrigued with testing out his AEB-L:. If it holds up better then even LT Wright's, well, that is saying a real lot. That might be my new grail steel for my outdoors blades.

@@jonNH123 I really want the WCSK too. I would recommend contacting Great Northern Knives and see if they can put in an order for his Kukri or the Elite Chopper.

Awesome! I have The blackbird and jr woodsman. The only problem with them is deciding which one to take😂 definitely field tested to the max in real world use. He sends prototypes to people who rely heavily on knives in all aspects of use. I love them. That Scandi primary bevel on the saber 😍😍😍 slicey dicey. Mine seem to hold the edge longer after each honing also😎👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I like all of Williams knives designs & have been watching videos for a long time. I have a lot of fixed blade knives and folders and I do not have any multi grinds yet. I did buy the one and only folding knife 🔪 that WCK's makes but it has not been made yet and is coming from the the 1st run a pre order, that should be done in the spring of 2021, and am patiently waiting for it to get to me. It will have the duel grind with the AEB-L scandi blade going into a thinner tapered tip of flat or maybe saber. Will be getting a fixed blade one day also but wanted to get what I will be using most first. The great thing about Williams duel grind knives is all you have to do to sharpen them if put the scandi part of the blade on the stone and then follow that same bevel angle all the way to the tip. I think William said in a video that he uses a rockwell hardness of 60 or something close and that maybe part of why they stay sharp for a long time. Oh & you all get out and whittle on a stick and bring bring plenty of bandaids.

I don’t have a review of it. I actually wound up selling it because it is very similar to the Jr Woodsman and I preferred the handle on that one. It seems like a really sweet and capable knife, but I didn’t work with it enough to form an actual opinion of it.
