I deconstructed a new alternator and had it powdercoated at Werhli Custom Fab for my Duramax and it turned out great!

Looks good man. That a/c compressor housing would really set it off!

Powder coating or high heat paint any moving parts tend to retain heat. Especially a stock 105A alternator if it's already working at max efficiency, between 140 and 160 *, and metallic colors can ground the internals out. I would never do it on a AC compressor. On show cars is nice though

I've only had two customers actually take take them apart but they look so good coated. It's worth it

Did your stator/coil windings(the red wire coil😂) just slid out. I have both sides taking apart and everything removed but that coil. Does not want to move. I tried taking a hammer and flat had and tapping around but not sure if there glued in or mines just corroded and stuck, thanks in advance

I started with a brand new alternator. I figured if I wanted to put this much effort into it, it may as well be one that would be able to last a good long time. Even when they are new the windings are very tight in the cage, it took a lot of patience and wiggling to finally get it to slide free. Sorry not very helpful, hopefully you were able to get yours to come out.

Thanks for the reply! I ended up just taping mine up and painting instead of powder coat. I probably should have bought a new one but did not want to mess up a brand new one being the first time taking one apart, You should do an instructional video on how to take them apart step by step. There’s not much on KZfaq for it, probably would get a lot of views.

How did you remove the coil from the housing. I’m stuck at this point

Thomas F It should be a tight slip fit after the leads are desoldered. I was able to get mine apart by hand by twisting slightly while pulling it apart.
