New Orleans steht nicht nur für Dixie und Jazz - aus den Sümpfen Louisianas kommt auch knallharter Thrash Metal. Die Band Exhorder um Shouter Kyle Thomas sind eine Institution und gelten als Wegbereiter des groovigen Thrash Metal der Neunziger.
Ihre erste aktive Phase hatte die Band von 1985 bis 1994. Mit ihrem knallharten, Groove-orientierten Thrash-Sound und den derben Shouts ihres Frontmanns Kyle Thomas sorgte die Band schnell für Furore in der Szene. Mit ihrem Debüt „Slaughter In The Vatican“ galten sie als Wegbereiter für Bands wie Pantera und Machine Head. Auch der groovige Nachfolger „The Law“ traf Anfang der Neunziger genau den Nerv der Zeit.
1994 lösten sich Exhorder auf. Erst 2019 - nach zahlreichen Reunion-Versuchen und Besetzungswechseln - meldeten sich Exhorder mit dem einzig verbliebenen Gründungsmitglied Kyle Thomas und dem Album „Mourn The Southern Skies“ zurück. Die Kritik reagierte positiv auf das vielschichtige Alvbum. 2024 folgte „Defectum Omnium“. Kyle Thomas' zweites Standbein ist seit 2012 die Doom-Combo Trouble.
