Thanks for a clear well explained video. Brings back loads of memories for me. I had to stop farming due to health issues, but that was me for my first 15 and a bit years of working. The main difference I had a radio on when milking, allowed me to keep up on the news & tunes of the day, plus I'm sure the cows liked the music, haha. I totally agree with the 1st cuppa of the day ritual. Keep up your great videos.

We always feed grain depending on how much milk they gave when they came in the barn for milking. We never had a parlor so feed before they came in and had it ready for them. Winter time they stayed in the barn but they always looked forward to getting their grain and milked. It was almost like they looked forward to seeing us. We also grew up on raw milk and it was the best.

Unfortunately the vast majority of consumers would agree with increasing the amount farmers get paid for there produce, but then those same consumers well purchase produce without a thought for how little farms get for their produce. There's a reason why there aren't any Butchers , Bakeries, Green Grocers, shops or doorstep milk deliveries any more Supermarkets have too strong a stranglehold over farmers, driven by consumers who are more interested in lower price more than the effect of low prices on farmers.

@@hannahplumleymycarnivaladd6365 Glad that there is still some places doorstep deliveries are still done, Supermarkets have really come to dominate the nations nation's shopping habits, and in some part contributed to the decline in high street shopping. And the advent of metro stores they are pushing out the smaller convenience stores to such an extend that only shops catering for the local minorities are left. As a consumer who wouldn't want cheaper prices, yet we rarely think of the harm producing cheap goods actually has. Over 55 years I've seen how the retail and shopping sectors have changed. It's funny when you tell kids that there used to be shops that only sold fruit land veg, or only sold baked goods, or only sold wines and spirits, they look at you if you were senile But then they say this is progress, fresh produce no longer exists as retailers choose selflife over fresh

Brilliant video tom, nothing quite like working way your stock, I got the chance when I was 20 to take over a beef and sheep farm on stronsay in the Orkney islands my fiancé and I 😉 are currently running 180 ewes and 10 cows put with the shorthorn bull. We’ve got a baby on the way in may sheep lambing in March and cows calving in April -may. Best decision I made taken on the farm minus the debt but that’s something you have to get on with, I don’t many 22 year olds that’s running their own farm.i watch all your videos the ginger warrior certainly knows what he’s talking about.
