We’re having the same problem with their math and LA as well. My son has ADHD and it’s hard to keep him focused when we’re constantly mixing up what we’re doing.

Everything you said about LA Level 2 were things I've been frustrated with. I recently started just using the Booster and the readers and then teaching the lessons separately from the curriculum to avoid the extra & unnecessary. We also started Fix It Grammar, as well as Traditional Spelling, a couple of weeks ago. My son and I are both enjoying the changes.

I’m the opposite. I didn’t start with TGATB 3 years ago when we started homeschooling because it looked confusing to me and I didn’t want the “fluff”. But wow, we did TGATB this year and love it so much! Having done other curriculums has helped me as the teacher know how to teach things better, like writing because we used a writing curriculum for 1 year. It definitely benefited me trying other curriculums before TGATB!

I totally understand. My son would have hated this curriculum. With him we did abeka. Straightforward and lots of repetition. He’s mildly autistic. He likes same same same… hated coloring pages and “useless” games. TGTB would not have been a good fit. I recently started using this TGTB curriculum for my daughters. They love it! They love the games, the art, the little stories. They enjoy the variety in math and the beautiful illustrations. -- So I’m thankful that in the time we are homeschooling, there are many many flavors of curriculum for our children. And I’m thankful that I don’t have to use the same curriculum for all of my kids.

I think TGATB was a great introduction to homeschooling for us, but we burned out on it by level two. I wanted a vision for K-12 and lost faith in the company with the constant re-releases as well as the lack of actual books to read. (The in-house TGATB book publishing really put me off. There are plenty of beautiful classical books to read.) We went to Memoria Press and haven’t looked back. Good luck on your journey. Many people are walking away a few years in. I think they’re going to have really reconsider their longterm vision for K-12.

We felt the same way. I wanted something that lets the child practice at least a little bit everyday or every couple of days. I went with Abeka, but simplified it to meet our personal needs

We tried it as well. We decided to go with christian light education. It's very open and go. To the point.

It sounds like a mastery curriculum would work better for your family. Working on one concept until he masters it, then moving on. Thanks for sharing your review! I love hearing different opinions on curriculum as my kids age.

We stuck with the good and the beautiful LA waaaaay too long. I know many many families who succeed with this curriculum but it just didnt work for us. My child asks why all the time and with TGATB didnt answer those questions for her. We switched to All About Reading and its changed everything!!!

My 8 year old and 6 year old sons feels the exact same way about this LA, just so much extra that they have no interest in doing. We switched to fix it grammar. I absolutely love TGTB though. It really is a fabulous curriculum, and I’m so sad to leave it.

I feel like that’s such a common situation with TGTB. It’s a great starter program for someone new to homeschooling but then after a couple years ppl gain confidence in knowing what their kids need and move on. That’s for sure how it’s worked for our family. We are really enjoying their Space Science unit but we will not be using their Math or LA this fall.

We also stopped TGTB level 1 about 2 weeks ago. Been using TGTB since 2021. There wasn’t much practice for my daughter who really needs it. I also feel like there was just so much going on. Too much fluff.

I adore TGATB math over abeka and BJU. They mirror each other very well and lots of fun games for our bonding. Also love the different ways they approach math concepts. BUT I feel like all these other programs are copies of Abeka who has their LA down to an art! 👌

I feel like TGTB math and LA is excellent up until 2nd or 3rd grade! After that I found it’s gets heavy for the grade level.

I may have to move away from it because the independent work is too cluttered with graphics. My kid literally just doesn’t see or forgets to fill out stuff in both the math and LA. It’s been a big point of contention over the last year.

What did you switch to

TGATB is good, not great, it’s fun but not very informative for the child jumping around like it does
