White is down in material where the opponent has a queen against our rook + knight. Still, white can win this if he plays it right.

Forgot to explore the QxN scenario, where the rook can then skewer the Queen

I was wondering about that, but realized white can pull a rook skewer. It's very similar to what happens in 3:15

After kg5, you didn’t cover the most likely black move: qxb5. It doesn’t work because rc5 is a skewer I guess but still worth covering.

Sorry I meant rf5.

Yeah, it doesn’t work but it’s probably still the best (or the least bad) move for black, since they at least take a knight in the fall 😂

Stockfish is funny Start position (mate in 20) Rf1 (mate in 21) Ke5 (mate in 28) Kg5 (mate in 18) Kd5 (mate in 19) Nc7+ (mate in 19) Kd4 (mate in 40, next mate in 23) Nxa6 (mate in 37, next mate in 19)

In the end position there Stockfish says it’s best to take the knight right away in order to at least take something with you in the fall 😂

The first move was obvious. But the follow up with the king was risky as many people would think they could fall into a perpetual check.

I didn't see the entire idea behind trapping the queen, but I did see both Rf1+ and Kg5. Very beautiful

I do not understand why the black queen does not take the knight on b5 after white king to g5?
@Jamess984

The rook would go to f5 and at the next step would take the queen.

This will (I hope) teach me to follow the analysis further! I found the rook check and Kg5, and realised Black had to move the queen, but I didn't analyse all the available moves in the way you showed (sigh).

Poor Queen, dominated by the terrible Knight's forks😊

I've started to watch these hoping to learn a little and I'm enjoying the vids. On this one I'm confused though. What's happening @2:50 on Black' move? There is a circle on the White Knight. Would anyone be willing to explain why and is this stopping the queen taking the knight (I'm not saying that's a good move, just clarifying what I'm seeing on screen)?
@jasonsmith1950
@jasonsmith1950 2 ай бұрын
The circle indicates that the queen can capture the knight. He just forgot to go over that move as a possibility (but it's a skewer: rook to F5, forcing the king to move, leaving the queen to be taken by the rook)
