What about starting K-f7, if N-d6, BxN, if N-d8, K-f1 and black has no checks left, so best move for black is Q-e5 (anything else allows B-f6 mate), then white follows with K-e7, and again, black has no checks that don't lose the queen, and the threat of B-f6 is rock solid.

4:23 King e3 to block whites King but more interesting is 4:41 were we move black King to e3 and put white into zugzwang to move the King to an unwanted position. A great cat and mouse game and a lot of options to do it wrong for both sides :)

if black promotes to a knight at (edit 4:55 ) its a fork and he can take the white queen and force a draw.
@TheSkullkid16
@TheSkullkid16 7 сағат бұрын
If it was blacks turn to move when he did the promotion, yes. Problem is, the promotion happened before the king moved to the position to be forked, which the king couldn't do if he had promoted to a knight. It's a good idea, however black doesn't have the proper tempo in order to do it.

I don't see why promoting to a knight is a waste of time. It's with check and is a fork on the queen. It would be a draw.
@slashrjl
@slashrjl 8 сағат бұрын
because the promotion happens before the King move to E3, so White would just move their queen away

Mr. Strategy, this was quite interesting. For the longest time all I could see was a mate in 3 Qd4xQd6 Bg3 x Qd4, Rd2 x Bd6 Pe7 x Rd6, Pe7 checkmate. But then it finally dawned on me that black's Pawn at e7 is the lynch pin. So Qf6 to take the Pawn ( Knight and Rook are pinned) is the move (P.S. I'm new to chess so please forgive my naivete)

1 found it in seconds. The rook motive 1.Ra1+ is often repeated in chess studies. I saw the initial position and immediatly knew the solution. A queen, or king on the corner is always placed worst.
@petersiegfriedkrug
@petersiegfriedkrug 15 сағат бұрын
I saw the solution in 2 seconds. Not in 3 seconds, or 4. Only in 2. I knew the mate of one knight already for long time and tried often to make a study with this nice position.

WOW, I finally solved a puzzle of your's before you revealing the solution. I'll admit, it's a lot easier of a puzzle to figure out considering the starting position, white had such few options to prevent the mate, I knew a sacrifice was bound to be the answer. Now if I can only get a second one!

That was my guess as well. But Black can take the rook with Qd2. This opens the way for bishop c7 if the white Queen tries to take the rook on c7

Difficult checkmate!
@williamsquires3070
@williamsquires3070 Күн бұрын
After 1 Kf7 Nd8, 2 Kf8! and black has no easy way to stop white from checkmate with 3 Bf6# The black knight now blocks any check on the 8th rank, and 2 … Qf5+? loses to 3 Bxf5 exf5, 4 Rg1 and white has a win with a bishop and a rook vs. a knight and two pawns (soon to be one pawn!) The knight is just too far away from the action. Also, the black pawn on f6 prevents black from getting a free tempo with 2 … Nf6+. Of course, the rook covers 2 … Qa1 as well, AND stays on the 1st rank, guarding g1. Finally, 2 … Nc6 and 2 … f5 are too slow, white still mates on the next move.
