As someone who learned English as a second language I can relate to the swearing thing. Sometimes your brain just default to swears in the heat of the moment, and they feel less taboo than swearing in your native language.

Yes, swearing in English is not considered swearing, it’s funny. Couple of years ago I was watching the news (here in Brazil) and some guy was quoting an American and he said “fuck fuck fuck”, it was not live, so it could’ve been censored but it wasn’t, I find that hilarious. Of course you should be more respectful when in front of native speakers, but if you’re talking to other non natives, swearing is not nearly as offensive.

I know you’re just joking, but honestly, try speaking Japanese, and you will see how hard it is to switch between the languages. Especially going from Japanese to English, because there are sounds in the English language that simply do not exist in Japanese, such as V, L, and TH. On top of that, Japanese has just 5 vowel sounds, English has around 20, depending on your accent. Additionally, Japanese letters mostly represent syllables like ka, yo, and te, just as examples, which is why they have names like Nobuharu Matsushita and Yuki Tsunoda. It is literally impossible to pronounce a name like David McDonald (not a real person, just a good example) in Japanese, it ends up more like Debiddo Makudonarudo if you try to translate it. They also say family names before given names. Finally, their entire way of constructing sentences is different, so to say something like “I go to bed at 10:00P.M.” You need to say “P.M. 10:00 is bed when I go to.” Hopefully all of this puts into perspective why a lot of Japanese people have a hard time with English and vice versa. I think it would be difficult to find two languages more different. I have been learning Japanese for a while, and I’m really enjoying the challenge, but I still have a looooong way to go. 😂

It makes sense, given English is Yuki's second language and you can notice he's always consciously searching for the right words to say. During a race where everything is happening so fast and emotions are high, he wouldn't have time to think of the "right words" so swearing comes easy and naturally. It's almost like a flight or fight response.

A little bit of guessing from a Japanese guy about the phrase "traffic paradise". In Japan, there are occasions when bits of cities close the roads down so that pedestrians can walk around without having to worry about being run over. This is called the "Hokousha-Tengoku" which translates as "Pedestrian Paradise".

Yeah, it’s gotten to the point where I genuinely feel bad for Mazepin, sure he did some dodgy stuff, and he may not always be the cleanest racer, but he has talent, there is no doubt, he just needs to stop over driving a car that is never going to be fast. I hope Haas can get back on the tail of the midfield next year so we can see what Mick and Maz can really do. It was great to see Schumacher and Latifi having that battle in Portimao, it gave them both some screen time, which is rare for any battle outside the top 10.

I'll just say that he was pretty damn good in that. Honest, smart, sometimes funny, answers. He's a good addition to the world of F1.

In defense of Yuki since I am Japanese the Japanese schooling system is pathetic when it comes to teaching English. They have six years of English learning which is compulsary but it is geared towards passing English exams and nothing else, therefore they can't even have simple English conversation after six years. I think he also uses the four letter word often because it sounds cool.

This boy Tsunoda is very Non-Japanese when it comes to swearing. From my experience of living in Japan from the last 10 years, it is rare to find a Japanese person who swears a lot and so openly. They usually do it privately or secretively :D I like this dude! wishing him big success

@WTFTommy - Nice guitar buddy! I love me a nice LTD EX-series - proper bit of kit. - So guess I've got a 'fave' member of the crew now! Great interview. Lil' Yuki-Han is a lot more of a prospect than I expected; Being a big Kvyat proponent his appearance in the team rubbed me up the wrong way, but wow... I been rooting for him every race so far! A very cool cucumber.
