Larry Bird, one of the most legendary figures in basketball history, is renowned for his incredible moments on the court. Here are some of his greatest moments:
1. **The 1984 NBA Finals**: Bird led the Boston Celtics to a victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, earning Finals MVP honors. His performance, highlighted by his leadership and clutch plays, solidified his reputation as a clutch player.
2. **Back-to-Back MVP Awards (1984-1986)**: Bird won three consecutive NBA MVP awards, a testament to his dominance in the league. His versatile play, including scoring, passing, and rebounding, made him a complete player.
3. **1985 Eastern Conference Semifinals, Game 5**: Known as the "Heat Game," Bird scored 34 points and grabbed 17 rebounds despite playing in sweltering heat and battling dehydration, leading the Celtics to a crucial victory.
4. **The Steal Against the Pistons (1987)**: In the 1987 Eastern Conference Finals, Bird made a legendary steal in Game 5, intercepting an inbound pass and assisting Dennis Johnson for a game-winning layup, a play etched in NBA history.
5. **Career-High 60 Points (1985)**: Bird scored a career-high 60 points against the Atlanta Hawks, showcasing his scoring prowess and ability to take over a game single-handedly.
6. **Three-Point Contest Wins**: Bird won the first three NBA Three-Point Contests (1986, 1987, and 1988), famously raising his finger in victory before his final shot even went in during the 1988 contest, epitomizing his confidence and shooting skill.
Larry Bird's career is filled with remarkable moments that highlight his competitiveness, skill, and unyielding determination, cementing his legacy as one of basketball's all-time greats.

I think the players today stay in their main roles, instead of doing everything they can to win. Bird always thought about how he would deal with certain defenders, what kind of shots he neded, etc. He was not a selfish player. He always looked for better shots. They knew what each teammate could do. Larry and Jordan are also good friends now.

Glad you are back and I totally agree about play on the defensive end. As a long time fan of Bird let me reiterate that Bird in the 1983 season finished tied for 3rd place for the DPOY award!!! Bird was on 3 all defensive teams ( 2nd team) and led the league in defensive win shares 4 times. Bird was also 7 times in the top 5 in DWS!!! Bird was once 2nd in DRTG and was 6 times in the top 10 in DRTG. Bird was not the same player after his dual heel surgery and back issues but during his first 9 seasons in the NBA was as good as we have ever seen!!

One of the great things about youtube is it's ability for people like ourselves to go back and appreciate these legends who helped build the sport. After the recent passing of Jerry West I did some digging. That dude has a legit case for top 5 basketball minds of all time. From player, to coach, to scout, to GM, he excelled at every level. It's tragic that The Logo himself never got the flowers he so rightfully deserved. EDIT: And Bird is best small forward of all time.

He wasn't being disrespect of Bird, he was saying how great those other players were, but they were not feared by other great players like Bird was. Bird doesn't get the credit he deserves, but part of that was because he didn't want publicity he just wanted to win. He once told a reporter he didn't care what he wrote because he didn't read it. It's the players that are great and enjoy talking to the media that people tend to talk about.

Bird was very dangerous whether he had the ball, or not, but was a terror when he had the ball and got a little hot, which he did pretty often. I think those characteristics, with his complete game, and his "clutch play" during the last few seconds of a close game, were what set him apart, to some degree.

Larry Bird is the only person to be named Rookie of the Year, league MVP (3x), Finals MVP (2x), Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year. His only "negative" was that his career was cut short by a back injury, and he missed a season with a foot injury, so he didn't get the chance to amass the career numbers of LeBron, or Michael. And to your question, no, nobody disrespected Larry Bird during his time. It was Bird and Magic at the top, and everyone else under them, until Jordan came into his own. 80s basketball was Bird, Magic, and Jordan. Period.

I think most real hoop fans know what Dr.J was, he was the flash, the stylized, before what was to come. I think also he’s one c of the most recognizable names in the sport amongst just random people, ball fans or not, one of the original ball pop icons. It’s hard to compare aba and nba. While the aba may cost him in nba stats, I think it grew legend as flash, stylized. On a personal note, I believe George Gervin to be one of the most underrated players that doesn’t get paid his dues.

I watched a lot of Bird clips recently and I enjoyed your take. Just my 2 cents. I get your Clark and Reese comparison but I think it's a slight to Larry Bird though, because he was so much better, despite what many first think, he was good on Defense as well, (lots of blocks/steals/rebounds). I agree with your Dr. J comments, Dr. J deserves the recognition and respect. I think Dr.J gets a little forgotten under the shadow of Bird/Magic, and I believe Dr.J himself feels a little disrespected as seen from his comments over the years when asked who he thinks is the best, there's always hesitation, even though he credits Bird at times whether reluctantly or not. Those comparing Barkley to Bird is not even close, as Bird took on Barkley, Malone, and Dr. J all at the same time. A lot of big egos, a lot of jealousy, and most think they're the best in their own minds. But from what I remember, LA was Magic, not Kareem, no disrespect to Kareem but I think most know what I mean. Biases aside, in the 80's, Bird was the best and everybody knew it, they either gave him the praise, they hated him, or they kept their mouths shut for whatever reason because they just knew. Not even Jordan disrespects Bird. Jordan learned a lot about trash talking from Bird. Jordan didn't want any teammate to even speak to Bird because he knew if Bird got triggered he could turn it on at will. Everyone has bias, everyone has opinions, but the best never has to toot their own horn. I slowly lost interest in the NBA after Bird retired, his greatness spoiled a lot of us, it just didn't seem the same after. If it wasn't for Jordan the NBA would of fizzled out, that's probably why they marketed and hyped him so much. I didn't appreciate Magic as much I should have until years later, and I enjoyed watching Jordan in the 90's whether cheering for or against him. My friends that were MJ fans dissed Larry as too old even though Bird still got the better of Jordan in his later years, but I think it would of been a total different story if Bird was injury free or even better if he was in his prime. People forget but Bird wasn't slow in his younger years. It's a shame that hardly anybody puts Bird in their top 5. It seems to me in recent years that KZfaq has surprisingly preserved and resurrected Larry Bird's dominance, it brings back a lot of memories as well. I cheered for Bird and proudly wore a Bird jersey occasionally as a teenager, and my all time favorites are Bird/Magic/Jordan. I loved my original black Jordan sneakers and wore them out playing games. Oh and by the way, as a Bird fan watching in the 80's, I had no idea Bird was a bad ass trash talker, this was also a shocker that puts him on another level, and again brought to most everyone by KZfaq. Good luck with your channel.

(3:20) If you check the stats you'll find Clark is 19th in rebounds, 16th in blocks and 17th in steals, and this is for the entire league not just the rookies, plus all this with just the 1st 22 games . If you're claiming she's been unable to stop the veterans she's been assigned to that's one thing but to claim she doesn't play defense is simply inaccurate. (4:46) The comparison between Magic and bird and Clark & Reese is only surface level, mainly black and white. Bird and Johnson were virtually on the same skill level for all of the basketball prerequisites, this is not the same with Clark and Reese. Reese is a monster rebounder and solid scorer but Clark is the all around best player on the court. As for Championships, that says more about the team they are on because it takes teams to win Championships.

All the players he listed with multiple MVP awards are top 10 . Far above LeBron. By the way Kareem has 6 .
