One big thing I found on my day skipper practical course that wasn't what I expected is that it was not really teaching you the things but more of an assessment of what you already know.

Really enjoying your channel which I'm sure will be really helpful for anyone wanting to or think about getting into sailing. I've followed The Sailing Brothers since episode 1 and really admire their approach and achievements, especially as they'd not been outside the UK before. If you haven't come across them already, Sailing Cadoha explores and talks about some of the best anchorages and marinas around the UK . Another couple on Sailing Yacht Florence left the UK seven years ago and returned for the first time in October of last year. Anyway, thanks again for sharing your progress so far and looking forward to future episodes.

Thank you so much for the kind comments and I’m so happy you are enjoying the content. I follow both those channels also and can’t wait to try out some of cadohas anchor locations from their website 👍

Keep in mind, that whatrever you learn in the courses, you can and should pass that knowlege to your family and anyone who sails with you on an regular baseis with you, then you will have an team if you go on longer crusies on yuor owen boat. I would keep paper charts on board and use them while planning an trip, because in many places it is reqiered by law and keep an dayly log book up to date when under way, have geasts and crew to sighn on and off. In emergancy thats wear all there info will be. So please keep that in mind. Gerard.

Just found your channel and I have just finished the theory with ardent , interesting what you said about navigation I have my practical starting next Sunday and was also expecting to be navigating on paper charts like is drummed into us on the course so will be interesting to see how it will play out.

Don’t panic I was just not expecting the change over but if you have not already I would suggest having a play on navionics or another plotter app just to get use to plotting way points etc

Great video very useful, I am also currently doing the Theory with Ardent and practical early August. What apps would you recommend for tidal info?

Thank you so much for these details! I'll be taking my practical in Greece in mid-April. Almost completed with the on-line theory class (two chapters left), and will be taking the mock exams next week or week following. Cheers to you!

Good to get a bit of an insight into the Day Skipper practical. What boat were you on? Did my Comp crew on Hope. Interesting to hear about the changes in Navigation. I knew they were due. So now you don’t have to do a CTS, DR or EP in the practical? Was it a sheet bend knot you were thinking of?

Thank you for the comment, answer to your question I was not asked to do a cts or dr or ep but I think in other ways you still need to know as bearings and fixes were certainly asked for. I also think it depends on the instructor and how he decides to run through the course as other people on other boats reported differently to my experience.

You had a better education by learning with paper charts. Digital is great until lightning strikes.

The audio is recorded very low, like a third of volume and your narration is impossible to follow.
