Been with you on the whole exciting-but-excruciating adventure (as we were simultaneously searching for our own boat for more than 11 months) and I couldn’t wait until today to find out what you got - I’ve been checking KZfaq about every 15 minutes. CONGRATULATIONS!!! What a great boat. It was worth the wait.

Congratulations! Ocean Alexander is a very good boat. When I was young back in the mid 1980's I helped commission new OA's in Alameda, CA. We would take delivery directly off the freighter into the Oakland Estuary and sail the boats to our docks and install all the hvac and navigational electronics, radar, autopilots etc. I remember how exciting the process was for the new owners. The boats were built very well, only occasionally needing some fine tuning with engine alignments and prop balancing. Joinery was outstanding, and systems were installed to high standards. Have fun and enjoy!

I got rid of my toaster and intant pot airfryer and replaced them with a Cosori Toaster Oven Air Fryer combo. I LOVE THIS THING!!! It toasts bread and bagels perfect, it air fries, it bakes, it make pizza, it broils, it thaws. The only thing it doesn't do is operate itself.

Congratulations. You are going to love the Loop experience. So many great things to see and great people to meet. It took us a year to find our Loop boat and we've been intrigued by your search. We "settled" on a Hatteras 40DC (no kids, no pets). It's been perfect for us but now we have grand kids. So we are "movin' on up". To a Hatt 52.

I’m very excited for you guys. I think you found an, as close to perfect boat for your loop. It’s funny how different a loop boat I’m looking for. Then again I will be mostly single handing the loop. I also have the desire to build my loop boat. That may not be the best economic choice, but logic has never gotten in my way before. Being a woodworker I can appreciate the beautiful bright work on your boat. Not to mention the awesome engine room. This will bring a lifetime of memories for you and your kids. Much love

First thing first, I'm claiming the where's Waldo prize for identifying the change of sketch with the necessary boat dimensions to do the loop. I believe I called it out three or four episodes ago. Secondly, Congratulations, Congratulations, Congratulations, Ocean Alexander is a very high quality boat. Your particular model looks to be outstanding. Once you said four bedrooms for bathrooms I immediately knew the bathrooms would be tight but they still look very comfortable and should serve your family well. I'm excited to see your modifications to the vessel. The engine room looks to be magnificent and is probably the most important aspect to consider with your purchase. Now for the modifications and then for the cruise.

Re: Tender. You may find if you need to launch or retrieve the Whaler in rough conditions to be a bit tricky. IE- The first time that thing beats the hell out of the side of SeaSHINE, you'll wish you had a RIB. I wouldn't stress about it for the loop, but if you guys start exploring the Bahamas, I'd definitely swap 'er out for a RIB. And yeah, I know you can just leave the Whaler in the water or on the bridge until things calm down, but you may not always have that option. Sometimes you've gotta go NOW for various reasons. Either way, you guys have a hell of a setup. We most likely won't cross wakes, but if we do, look out for a Hatteras 53 MY named Snowdrift. Grub 'n brew's on us; welcome to boat life!

Great points! We already dealt with that issue. We anchored off Cumberland Island and it was too windy to comfortably put the tender in which was a real bummer. We may switch the whaler out for the Bahamas. Thanks for the intel and for the warm welcome!

I am happy for you guys for finding a boat !! In the NW we have a lot of OA's and Ed Monk designed most of that vintage, he is one of my favorite ! I am a Fleming guy but OA's that where built in Taiwan are great boats. Having stabilizers on that boat is a must they get a little squirrely in a side sea but run great into the sea. I think finding a boat that was so well kept and has had so many upgrades is the key to buying a older boat. I have found 2 boats like that over the years and been very happy with the results. Its better to have a well kept boat a few years older than one that was not well maintained. After the loop you should come here and try the inside passage, its incredible . I say change the sectional out for something a little cleaner , it will be a nice update.

Nice Find ! Can't go wrong with an OA. One of my previous boats was a 42 Carver42 aft cabin. The swim platform was narrow like this OA and had no railings to hold onto. I put a stainless rail all across the stern and had custom removable staples made for the swim platform. My boat had a transoms door up on the deck making it fairly easy to go down the steep ladder. Carver later on put a really nice spiral staircase on the port size. Enjoy your new OA...😎

I had a 45 Bayliner with a 10’ Whaler on the top. Whaler is a great boat but HEAVY. It was a b***h getting it up and down. Got rid of it for a rib. We now have a 48’ Navigator with a Walker Bay rib and davit. Still is an effort to get it down so we are putting on a Freedom Lift this Spring. The easier it is to deploy your dinghy the more you will use it. We start our loop in the Fall from Minnesota. Congratulations.

4 cabins/heads in a 56 foot length is extremely unusual in a monohull, not all that unusual in a power cat over 40 foot. Glad you guys found (something close to) your dream Loop boat. Congrats on the new boat. We just completed the Great Loop in a Back Cove 37. With your draft, you should really watch your depths. We draw 3"8" and touched three times and went hard aground once. Also, with your air draft, you'll be waiting at many bridges for an opening but I'm sure you're aware of that. We really didn't see many boats that large on the Loop, but we did see some. Good luck and just keep going in the face of the adversities to come. The Loop is a test of your maintenance skills and your perseverance. It's a lot of fun. Enjoy!

Congretulations with the new boat ! Really looks like a good boat, when all the technical items are in order you will absolutely enjoy it. Stabs are an absolute winner, I am going to install them next year, pretty costly affair (around 75.000 USD), so you saved that amount right there. Just don't know how much you will need them on the Great Loop. And just a tip, if you want to lower your fuel consumption even more...........simply run on one engine. You will do around 6 to 7 kts, low consumption and less hours on the engines. Many of us trawler types do it. If I would run both my engines I will do around 8 kts and burn about 4 gallons per hour. On one engine I will do about 6 kts and burn around 2 - 3 gallons per hour. If you are not in a hurry that will extend your range significantly. We just put it on auto-pilot and off she goes. As for electricity, you might want to think about installing solar panels. I have 600 Wp solar on board right now, but that will be increased to 4,5 Kwp next year with Lithium batteries, making the generator completely redundant. Will just keep it as a back up. Saves a lot of fuel and a lot of noise when you are at anchor. Good luck and again, congratulations on your acquisition, looks great and you will have an absolute blast on board ! Oh, and btw, keep the Boston Wayler. As Cruising Holiday stated the glue tends to fail on ribs after a couple of years.

Lol we named our 34” PDQ Motor Catamaran “Almost Purrfect” our original plan 5 years ago was to do the loop, but we haven’t left yet. We have to fully retire first I guess, whatever that means?? But we already live in Florida and she is lift kept in our backyard ,so she is properly and throughly enjoyed just the same. Enjoy your adventure.

Boston Waler the best choice for sure, you will never have to worry about it deflating. I have plenty of experience with those tender and i would not change Boston Waler for an inflatable. Congratulations on your new boat.

She’s a beaut! I’m almost positive (because I got the Covid this week, on strong meds, and my vision is sort of blurry), but I’ll be looking at the pictures again soon enough, multiple times I’m sure! I am so happy for you guys, it’s like I got a boat and don’t have to fill the fuel tank. I can’t believe how awesome this is, and 4 cabins 4 heads! The flying bridge is great, what a score. I’m sure you will do a great job erasing some of the 1980s style/fixtures in the heads, couch, countertops, and it will look excellent. Nice engines! I would prefer a Boston Whaler tender but, with the stern layout I agree on a RIB because you’re going to be bumping into that platform and both sides managing the tender. You also may be able to get a slightly larger RIB that weighs less than the tender. I’m rambling. Very happy and impressed. Thanks for the great VBS run, epic. S

If you are experienced with boats and seamanship cool. If not go slow and take classes. Find a experienced person to help with learning all things seamanship. Be very careful and be very careful. Establish safety procedure and learn how to travel and navigate safely. Have fun and become expert wayfarers.

Thank you for your concern, but no need to worry :). We are indeed very experienced with boats and seamanship. We both have boated our whole lives and taken courses at Chapman just to learn more. We would not have purchased this boat -- or been able to insure it -- if we weren't. But we will still be very careful, and we always practice safety procedures and drills.

Get an inflatiable dinghy and pl ace on the transom. You need the space up top for the kids and yourselves. See Technomadia and their Bayliner 4788. Dinghy on the transom. They have room for a hot tub!

@@TheBoomershines I understand your concerns but with your draft you should be able to travel the ICW without too much trouble. The Great Lakes may be more of an issue but as a new sailor you are going to be cautious about weather and wave heights anyway. Open sea travel would only be that little part of the upper Gulf by FL and then a possible crossing to the Bahamas. You were planning on adding to the transon anyway. That extra space there will allow for a large inflatable. You will just need to make sure the attachment system and the inflatiable is compatible with your transom upgrades, overall boat size, and the size of the dinghy. You will really want that extra outdoor upper deck space. You can always store the inflatiable on the upper deck later in the trip if you feel it isn't working for you on the transom. Just don't have the davits and crane removed. They can be covered over if you are not using them. Furniture or other things can sit over or next to them. Also loss of the Whaler weight will help with gas mileage.

keep the Whaler its one of the best dinghies out there, regret selling mine. best option is to get both. the hard dinghy is great in rough areas (no worries about damage) and a lightweight inflatable is great as a number 2 boat, which your going to want since you have kids. Having a cheap inflatable available in addition to the Whaler was great for us. kids got bigger and we wanted more versatility so bought a Bluewave 2400 PureBay and rigged it for towing (its a 24ft bay boat). the Whaler was easier to deal with as we didn't need to tow it. We put the inflatable on the bow and the boys could launch it whenever they wanted to. my advice keep the Whaler as your Captain's Gig and get an affordable (cheap) lightweight inflatable the kids can use, beat up and learn to repair. I went with a Saturn cause it was the lowest cost, no waiting, inflatable I could find at the time. Not the toughest but served well for over 5 years with no problems (our problem was teen and tween boys! they will WORK a boat and your nerves!). Congratulations! :)
