The best statement to hear when you are buying a home is when Elizabeth said, “I feel at peace here”. SO very excited for you!!

Don't replace the washer unless you absolutely must. The government has mandated a maximum of 26 gallons of water for all cycles. On my new Maytag, there is no way to override the water level. The mode that says high water level is a joke or an insult to the consumer. I bought my new washer less than two years ago. I absolutely hate it. It is a top loader and I'm constantly rewashing my loads because sometimes it leaves streaks of detergent, fabric softener or the additives don't dissolve even on the soak cycle. The lid locks so if you find a sock on the floor, you cannot add it mid cycle. If you do, it drains the water and you must start the cycle over again. I'm replacing it with a Speed Queen this week. Somehow Speed Queen has managed to use 40 gallons of water except on their "government compliant " cycle. Front loaders seem to be better with low water cycles. I am not alone with hating my new washer. Thanks to the government, we now have washers that don't use enough water to wash clothes, toilets that don't use enough water to flush waste, and slow cookers that boil or burn our food.

I think old washers & dryers work better than new nowadays, I definitely wouldn’t worry about replacing until you must. So very happy for you both! The house looks great! Hardwood floors mean a lot; it means to me the original construction was solid. Yay for you!

You guys turned your financial situation around at your age is very impressive! At one point you both were almost homeless. Now you guys own 2 houses. Congrats 🎉

My best friend of 40+ years is a nurse and she was asked to work in Florida for 6 months. It was great money so she did. She loved Florida so much 15 months later she bought a house! I was heartbroken! But she loves it. Her oldest daughter (my Godchild) went after her and ended up buying her own house. Thankfully her mom and I talk just about everyday. They all love Florida. My dad was a snow bird and fell in love with Dade City. He was there for 20 years. It broke my heart to have to sell his mobile home when he passed away. I wanted to keep it for my retirement but it just wasn’t feasible at the time. Congratulations snow birds!

Your channel popped up the other day and I was immediately intrigued. God led us to a rural area about 1/2 hour south of I-10 in North Central Florida when we unexpectedly had six weeks free in January-February back in 2011, and we fell in love with it. Not only that, but it completely helped my asthma and overall health. We found an "as is" double wide on the third year and we're still here, now almost full-time, still debt free, and very happy. Elizabeth, I support you absolutely in this move.

There’s only one thing I have to say about the house you bought: Bill mentioned putting the dishwasher to the left side of the sink. Consider which cupboards you will be placing most of your dishes when the dishwasher is open. A friend of mine bought a big beautiful home years ago and didn’t realize this until it was too late. The majority of their cupboards were to the left of the dishwasher, so when the dishwasher was open, they couldn’t reach the cupboards to put the dishes away. They had to open the dishwasher, put all the dishes on the counter, close the dish washer, and then put the dishes away. Just a suggestion!!! ❤️💕❤️

I suggest going to thrift stores to find dishes, lamps, side tables, maybe some furniture pieces, porch furniture and other odds and ends. It's amazing what you can find it thrift stores these days. Also maybe your son and daughter-in-law could help paint the inside of the house for you? Have fun and enjoy your new vacation home.

A lot of fears people express are due to hearsay or news geared to sensationalism. We've been going to FL, during the winter months, for years. We've kayaked extensively and we've seen our share of alligators. It's their home and we steer clear of them and they stay put. Having said that, we don't take a small dog on our kayaking adventures. That could change the outcome! Common sense goes a long way and Bill and Elizabeth have demonstrated their common sense many times. Really happy for you guys!

Elizabeth is such a calm loving person and a.nature lover. I knew when I stepped into our houses that it was the one for our family. God always let's you know what to do.

This is great news! Not sure exactly where you are, but we’re in NE Florida and I’m guessing within a 30 minute drive of there. We retired from St. Louis (now THAT’S a high crime area!). I didn’t expect to love Florida as much as we do. Being able to step outside any day of the year knowing we won’t slip on ice is huge for us. Tickled for you!

How exciting for you both! When we got our second hone, lots of people thought we were nuts. The location was in a colder place, and the amount of protest surprised me. We just celebrated 15 years of closing on this house and love it here. Like Elizabeth, I spent a LOT of time looking at real estate online. As you said, in some cases the houses were all right, but I didn't like the feel of the neighborhood, or the house simply didn't call to me when I saw it in real life. You know when you know. I am so happy for you both! I love the house and think it is a very smart investment. Not only can you snowbird there, but anytime throughout the year, you have a peaceful "get away". I'm sure your son and his family would enjoy getting to vacation there as well. After all, hotels and dining out are the most expensive part of traveling. Also, it could be a potential source of income, if ever needed, by renting it out to trusted friends for their vacations.

The long winter cold dry air in R.I. did a number on his breathing as well as he suffered frequent sinus and respiratory infections. I like that little house. What people fail to realize is when you buy property you can, essentially, live there for free when everything is said and done. We bought a modest property fifteen years ago, paid for it in full in twelve years. With the improvements we made our home has doubled in value in fifteen years. I might be too late but I would not test the HVAC before having a professional inspect it because of poor air quality or dirty vents. But I am sure that Barry already thought of that. Next would be to fix the skirting because of critters creating homes under there. I love the metal roof. I'm so happy for you two to end up with the one that you wanted all along. That is great. I totally understand your reasoning for buying the house. We had a travel trailer for years and when we took our son who is handicapped when he was little to provincial parks/ campgrounds. Now he is bigger we couldn’t get him into the trailer any longer. We looked at getting an adapted RV. It was extremely expensive and way more than buying a deaded lot with a cabin which we have built a handicapped ramp for his wheelchair. It is in a community about 1hr and 15 minutes away. We sold our old trailer and we’re able to pay cash for the new place. The maintenance isn’t too much. We couldn’t be happier. No more trying to research/ reserve spots and exhausting packing up the trailer 🎉 Congratulations to you both and couldn’t be happier for your family 💛💛💛

I’m happy for you! My brothers live in Tampa and my parents moved from Michigan to Tampa for early retirement and lived there the rest of their lives till they passed. They were very happy there! My recommendation for a dishwasher in the Florida house is to get a portable one. It can live next to the fridge and roll over and connect to the faucet when you need to use it and then roll right back over next to the refrigerator when you're done with it. They are still readily available although built in ones are more popular now. This way you can have one and then when and if you install a built in one, you can sell it or keep it as a back up etc. Many of them nowadays have butcher block tops so they can be used as extra counter space. Anyway, just a suggestion.

A good wash will make the outside shine, painting can be done later. Excellent shed, lots of storage. You could add a dish drawer dishwasher, much smaller and will fit under the sink.

This will be a blessing to you both. Washer and dryers are usually outside in a shed because of the moisture they give off. But youve got a beautiful porch and yard and Elizabeth can plant to her heart’s content. You can plant year round down there. And this area does feel peaceful! That’s a big plus for a tourism state. BTW the crime is in Miami and Tampa.

Your house has a number of things I would like in a house - a screened in porch, a carport against the house, with storage, no large trees overhanging the house, enough space for a garden, a storage building, and not isolated, but no very close neighbors! We moved to Florida 9 mos ago. We purchased a double wide (1979 model) that was totally remodeled as a open plan home. We paid cash for our home as well and part of our peace is no mortgage. It’s the smallest home we have ever had (1000 sf) but it’s big enough for us including a Florida room. It’s not an embarrassment, bc it’s ours. However we do live in a over 55 community, it’s still so right for us. “Suggestions” need to stay inside the mouth of those “expressing.” Happy for your debt free life, we enjoy our debt free life as well.
