I wouldn’t recommend writing with permanent marker on your eggs, the smartest thing to write the date on them with is a pencil. Permanent marker could soak through the egg and effect the growth of your chicks. I usually write a small “4/4” (month, date). If your new to hatching eggs, I wish you great luck among your journey!

My postman threw a heavy box over the fence onto cement. I was just inside the door. He made no effort to call my name even though my car was in he driveway. The loud BOOM let me know the item was damaged. The office just asked if the item was insured. Since there is no consequences for them some just don't care.

The only thing we did different when I was growing up was that we wore white cotton gloves to handle the eggs we were setting as my dad said we’d have a higher hatch rate because the oils from your hands would be bad with incubator or setting hen. We raised our food so hatch rates were important to us and we always had great numbers.

@@eaglechas it's life. We can't shelter our children from everyday life. They don't have to know the chickens we eat are the exact same chickens in the backyard. I agree with keeping it age appropriate, but it's our job to teach them. We hatch chickens to sell. We only eat the eggs. We eat our meat chickens. The life expectancy is very short for them though.

As I'm seeing that it looks like no one answered your question, generally they will grow out of the white, but that is a flaw from the parents, passed through breeding. Some breeders of Ayam Cemani will let you know they will start out with some white, but that it will fade and is completely normal. It is, for a flawed line. Greenfire farms, one of the only hatcheries to carry this breed, imported their line from Indonesia, yet they sell a flawed line. They are still absolutely beautiful, but when trying to breed them to keep that perfection in the bloodline, the white toes(that all of yours also had) and absolutely the white feathers, are not considered pure, despite what some will try to tell you. There is actually a seller on eBay with a listing for a "Rainbow" Cemani. All it is is a flaw in the line that causes more white feathers that don't go away. It is an absolutely beautiful bird, but not pure anything. Hope that answers your question...Loved your video 💖

@serenafiachra929
@serenafiachra929 3 жыл бұрын
Greenfire Farms does not breed a fully pure line. From what I understand, it is why they are no longer breeding Cemani, but their listing on their own website claimed that white toes and feathers were normal and would go away. Anyone that has done real research on Cemani knows that's not true. Bleed through is something they claimed "just happens" and mulberry combs is also a problem that they claimed was normal when it is an imperfection. It is a very good possibility these came from Greenfire Farms, but whether they did or not, they're a breeder/hatchery to really look up to when it comes to this breed.

InTheZone. The only way to increase any rare breed animal is to use the surplus for whatever they were originally bred for. If they were bred for meat, and for example you have too many males, what are you supposed to do with them but eat them? You can't afford to keep all male cattle and sheep alive just because you are trying to save a breed, or you will get to the point where you can't afford to keep any more animals and have to stop breeding them. By the way, the same argument applies to all milk animals - they have to be bred every year to go on producing milk, but you only need the females and an occasional exceptional male to use as a stud animal. If people get all squeamish and sentimental about eating those male animals, then don't expect to drink milk, eat cheese or any of the other uses of milk by products. You either need to be an omnivore or a vegan - If you are a dairy eating vegetarian you have to realise that some animals will have to be slaughtered because these animals are too big and expensive to keep as pets. I'm sure that once these chicks are no longer as cute and fluffy they will no longer be treated as pets, but wife already said she didn't fancy eating black meat. It would be interesting to know what they will do with them if all 6 live chicks turn out to be roosters!

It’s weird to see people think this is weird? I grew up on a farm and everyone who lived in town were amazed that I had chickens But I also knew we ate them You should treat your flock with respect even if you’re going to eat them We always had laying hens so we would kill them when they stopped laying I would give them names and play and cuddle with them but that was never weird The only chickens we didn’t do that to was Molly who was my pet chicken that we had for a while and strangely she was laying a lot longer than other chickens Her and her daughter were different breed to the other chickens The daughter got killed by my dog but Molly died naturally a little over a year she stopped laying It was kind of funny though because there were these people who sold fruits and vegetables and stuff locally and they happened to be Asian We gave the chickens to them to kill and eat (or sell) so eventually we just called them “our Asian ladies” So I had this friend who was Asian and she came over and we were playing with the chickens and everything was fine but then she started patting Molly and I started crying and she was confused so I told her “granny told me that Molly didn’t have to die! She’s a pet chicken and won’t be given to our Asian ladies!” Or something like that After that my family just was like Uh no Asian’s won’t kill all of your chickens and we stopped calling them our again ladies Oops Edit: we would kill them after they stopped laying sounds a little blunt Basically we got 4-6 chickens at a time and they would lay for several years (we stopped getting chickens when I was about 13 and I saw like 3 lots of chickens in my life, I can’t remember anything from the first but the secound died when I was 7ish and the third died when I was 13 and there was a chicken I named karma in the group) they stopped laying at different times so when the last chicken of the group stopped laying 2-3 months later we would drop them off at the vege market where the Asian family lived and worked

What *I've* learned is that *Silkie* broody hens are a blessing. Lol. If I ever am able to have my own little homestead and have some chickens, I'm Def gonna consider having a Silkie just for the broodiness :))
@okaysavana
@okaysavana 5 жыл бұрын
keandric 2 Yesss, I currently have 6 silkie eggs in the incubator which are all looking good, I’m hoping they’ll hatch and grow up being good mamas since all of my other chickens are not so broody. I have another egg in my other incubator which should hatch today it’s already piped it’s shell, can’t wait to see what it looks like since the dad is a barred rock and the mom is a Easter Egger!

The top 5 broody hens from best to almost best are Silkie, Cochin, Orpington (good egg layer as well), Brahma (winter hardy and good winter layer,) and then Sussex (recovering breed, so on the rare side. Good camo for free range. Good layer and winter layer.)

He just moved them softly up and down, similar force if they were moved around in a nest. If they did get impacted on delivery some if not all would be broken. The shredded paper can take some of the impact but no matter how padded a box is, enough force will break the contents. Is cool the mail service was gentle with them.

We have hatched quite a few of these. Like you, we got our start from Ebay. Impressive breed....smaller in size, incredibly fast and illusive. They will flatten themselves out and go completely quiet when they are being pursued and have no place to go. We've seen this with adults and in chicks as young as 2 weeks old. Best of luck with them.
