The effect the offset core had on ball motion was really cool to see. Extra weight didn't hurt the carry, but the way the 18 enters the pocket compared to the 15 was like night and day. Maybe do a rematch between the balls with some surface on the 15lb? Surface can only effect ball motion so much, but it would be interesting to see the stock ball have closer motion to the 18 to see how weight effects the carry "alone".

All of his illegal ball videos introduce variables other than ball weight. Which he totally ignores and contributes the effect to ball weight. It's so bad I'm thinking of making my own debunking video. If you take a 12 lb mix, add a lb of illegal side weight, to make it hook, so it's now a 13 lb ball. Then compare that to a properly drilled 13 lb mix. Then I wonder what ball will hit a lot harder? The one going dead straight with no flair and angle, or the illegal one?

@@nothumbbowler1802 There are "legal" balls that have offset weight. I believe league regulation allow for a ball to be a few ounces off balance. Also you can have funky core's that cause balls to drive harder. Either way these off set weighted balls are not going to make a poor bowler all of a sudden a pro, you still need legit skill to maximize there bonuses.

This reminds me of a story that Mo Pinel (probably the most influential person in the history of bowling as far as ball technology is concerned) told me and my dad during a coaching session. He was experimenting with ball dynamics and had drilled a hole in a rubber ball and filled it with mercury before plugging it. It was reacting just like your 18 lb Mix. The interesting thing is that a PBA Tour pro saw the ball's extraordinary carry and wanted to try throwing the ball. Mo let him throw it and he was so impressed he tried to buy the ball from Mo, offering hundreds of dollars. Of course Mo could not sell it to him in good faith because the ball was filled with a toxic liquid metal and not tournament/league legal, but he liked telling that story as it kinda marked the beginning of core technology in bowling balls

Any thoughts of drilling a hole in the opposite side filled with foam or cork to make the 18lb ball a "legal" 16 pounder with even more weight bias towards the metal side?

The Mix does have a pancake core right on the pin. You've put the bb core on your pap it looks like, as the ball rolls around the plug down the whole lane. So I guess with the pancake core + the bb core, you've made a weird asymmetric core plastic ball 😆

Urethane is a commodity plastic. So why say its a mix of plastic and a specific type of plastic?
@DrTacoPHD665
@DrTacoPHD665 Жыл бұрын
@@twocsies I've been very briefly researching the difference between urethane, polyurethane, and plastics/rubber in general, and it seems like the industry has no standard for categorizing urethane. One manufacturer says they are the same thing but just different chains of elastomers, others say they are different compounds altogether, and its either a rubber or totally unique family of material. Polyurethane is a commodity plastic but urethane is a base compound, similar to cement being different from concrete but still a component in it. Overall, it probably is best to specify urethane in marketing to consumers because manufacturers even struggle with it.

I'm not sure if you measured it out but i think the best spot for the weight would be directly opposite of your PAP (At least to keep the orginal core dynamics of the ball). It looks like its close already and being slightly offset of the PAP would create an asym type of wind up, more flare, and just more overall hook, likely on the back end. It works out pretty well it my head because that core is driving directly down the lane. I'm not sure if a company could recreate this on a mass level. There would at least need to be a left and right handed version. Also, I have no clue on the core regulations but it seems like a good idea. I'm sure somebody has an extra gem laying around that you can try this on. A strong ball with a low RG and place the mass on the opposite side of PAP... or if you want to get crazy i suppose you could have a weight on both sides of the PAP and the ball should naturally go to that axis while the engine drives it!
@nickdalfonso5777
@nickdalfonso5777 Жыл бұрын
The core would be the most unstable if the core was 3 3/8" from his PAP. Maximum flare position

@@nickdalfonso5777 the core? Like the balls core or the newly added mass? Also, why are you trying to create maximum flare?
@nickdalfonso5777
@nickdalfonso5777 Жыл бұрын
Well if you could technically find the highest point of the newly added mass, we'll call that the low rg of the ball assuming nobody has an RG swing readily available, you'd put that spot 3 3/8" from the Bowler's pap to make it the most unstable at release. Just trying to max out the hook.
@pbplaya1344
@pbplaya1344 Жыл бұрын
@@nickdalfonso5777 That sounds rough to me and in fairness I don't fully understand ball mechanics, especially when speculating the physics created from a secondary mass. I don't think that's the new RG. Rg is much more simple with a centralized mass. No clue what an RG swing is and it seems like you are just increasing flare, not necessarily hook, although likely hook potential. You are speculating something like the opposite of a weight hole. This isn't like my original comment at all. My idea would more align the bowlers PAP with the axis of rotation, creating no flare. Like a gyroscope spinning on an axis, sliding across oil until it sees friction and begins to hook to the axis of rotation.

@MikeDCWeld
@MikeDCWeld Жыл бұрын
You can actually have more side weight since the elimination of the balance hole. As I understand it, the balance hole was essentially an unintended, but necessary side effect of the very strict weight balance regulations. The entire reason for it was to remove mass from a specific point on the ball to bring it back into compliance so that it would be legal to use. Mo Pinel had a few very good videos on the rule change you might want to check out.
