That's the mark of a good commentator. And that is why some esports had pro players or retired pro players that made the commentaries because they KNEW the game, techniques, and strategies. They could tell exactly what would happen or needed to happen... and they also had to be charismatic. Starcraft had Tasteless, Artosis, Day9, iNcontrol, etc that were very loved for their knowledge and charisma.

i'm curious why T90 isn't then playing at this level (i don't really understand aoe2) but with say an fps like Overwatch, I get that someone with in depth game knowledge might not have the mechanical skill to play at a pro level. is that what t90 is lacking here? just micro? or would a pro just be making many more of these (incredible) predictions?

@@alphaphoenicis He is currently playing at a 2k level (a near pro level) but has only recently reached that rank. For him, I believe he just needs to fine tune his gameplay

@@alphaphoenicis theres a difference between knowing something and doing it. You can know the exact mechanisms and tricks to how something works, doesnt mean you can execute it well. Also remember that this is a PoV from a spectator he can always see what both players are doing, all the time. In an actual game? You dont know what the enemy is doing, you cant micro/macro as well, etc.

Monks represent a significant Gold investment, additionally, a screen of archery range units or stable units can easily slay monks well before your elephants get in the area. Diversity is your greatest strength broh, Don't spam elephants.

That would have placed elephants and other big units to the top, while now they are nothing but a situational addition to the army. Isn't every AOE 2 unit situational? There are several ways to counter monks, by the way: (a) Light cav - mix it into your army composition (b) Siege - Onagers, bombards, you name it (c) Ranged units - even skirms usually do (d) Your own monks - why not convert those elephants back? Plus, healing such beefy and expensive units is a good idea anyway. (e) Overall unit positioning and timing. Just like with siege, monks are micro-intensive and usually fall apart pretty fast once both players reach Imperial.

You can easily counter them by building monks yourself.

playonmac is a little lacking for older games, there are older and more complete options wine is not an emulator, a Linux dev that allows it to run windows programs natively, not sure if it can handle the steam client and associated nuisances virtualbox, emulates an entire computer, virtually guaranteed to work...requires you to set up windows (got an extra key laying around) in order for it to work my suggestion is to try wine, if that doesn't work...virtualbox
