We couldn’t believe how much snow was packed around her!

Snowball almost froze to death in Wednesday's blizzard, but her story has a happy ending! ❄️💕
She could barely move by the time a kind family spotted her laying in the snow. They knew something was wrong, and saved her life by bringing her inside when they did.
We went over to assess and thaw her, and were shocked at how much snow was packed around her. Once we got the snow off and she was finally warmed, it was clear she was terrified and didn't seem comfortable with humans or being indoors.
We brought her home to monitor and get her checked out by a vet, while we waited to see if someone was missing her. We're so grateful to all the people who shared and reached out trying to help her find her family!
The next day, her family reached out to us and we were able to confirm Snowball was their feral barn kitty. They sent us pics of her very cozy barn, and we learned they had taken her and her two brothers in several years ago, when their previous home was being redeveloped and was no longer safe for them. All of their kitties were spayed and neutered long ago.
We were SO relieved she had a home, a family, and a life she could return to where she would be happy and cared for. 💕
We've learned so much in our years working with feral cats. As much as we want to see every cat pampered in a home, we've gotten to see hundreds of feral cats live happy, healthy lives after returning to their homes in the wild. That's where they feel safe, and even though we can't take away all the risks, we do know that's where they will have their best lives.
So, this story has a happy ending, and Snowball recovered fully and is now healthy, safe and home with her brothers. 😻😻😻
We're so grateful to all of the people who cared enough to play a role in saving this cat. Without their help, Snowball's story would have had a very different ending. 💔

10 years ago I opened our front door to a stray we had named Sam frozen to the concrete during our yearly 'snowmageddon' here in N. Texas. We had been feeding him and had a shelter on our back porch for him, he was a bit standoffish then. I had to use a large pot of warm water to free him from the ice that had formed around him after he had melted the snow where he laid. I had tried to scoop him up but couldn't. After getting him inside, thawed out, dried and fed we put him in a spare bedroom with a heating pad, food and water. We had him snipped, chipped and tipped but he has never gone back out, he adjusted to his new brothers and sisters, put on weight and went from a homeless, standoffish street tom to a love bug purr machine kiss kitty. He is a good boy. A bit chonky now, too but he is warm, dry, safe and happy. 👍🏻🐱🐈

I fear this is playing out all over North America and beyond this winter. It's currently 10 degrees Fahrenheit and I was unable to trap a couple of the strays/ferals. Have some small shetlers out but that's so insufficient. Everyone, be on the lookout and do what you can. Call for help if needed.

I'm so happy she was saved, and her family was able to get her back. She was worth saving and is beautiful. It makes me happy to know she was saved and sent home after her vet check, and she, in fact, has a loving family that missed her. Thanks, TK, for being there for a kitty in need.

I don't consider barn cats true feral. They are used to being around humans a bit and can interact with us in a limited fashion. I loved our barn cat(s). Kept the vermin away, always came around during milking time. we would go through about 1 bag of food a year as they seemed to find plenty to eat.

I wish people understood that cats don't do well with cold weather. Unlike dogs, cats ancestors are from a hot climate region. They should not be outside in below freezing temps. Barns should be heated if temps are below freezing. They suffer immensely.

She does TNR & takes in Pregnant Kitties then tries 2 tame them if not then they return them 2 their home after they r Spayed & their Babies r Adopted 2 Loving Homes. 2 b with their friends in a Forest where they live. It's a Loving Channel. They also feed them & gives them toys 2 play with & Trap them if the Kitties have Medical Issues. They have warm Shelters in the Winter time 2 keep them warm & 2 keep them cool on hot days that a Property Owner made 4 them. If the Cats can't b returned due 2 Medical Issues they tame them & Adopt them 2 Loving Homes.
