the recent announcement that the devil wears prada sequel is in development has certainly ruffled some feathers. mine. as one of my favorite movies (and one that i think is perfect as is) the idea of a sequel definitely doesn't have me excited, especially considering disney is the one behind the wheel. supposedly meryl streep, anne hathaway, and emily blunt are in talks to return, but i don't know if that guarantees it'll be a hit. what do you think about the devil wears prada sequel?

Some (not all) of the major popular actors do get to come into money once they succeed enough times to have a popularity or awards bait bargaining chip but most actors are not those actors, most actors are career actors playing background characters in law & order and getting supporting roles in their friends low budget indie film while struggling to pay rent. Even actors you like in big shows dont have as much money as you think, its just that the rich ones really get talked about.

The Devil Wears Prada imo had one of the best endings to a film with everything coming to a conclusion that felt natural and real... I never wanted anything else from the "franchise"
@lepapercastle
@lepapercastle 15 күн бұрын
My favorite detail about the ending is when we see Andy in her final outfit. Stylish, sleek, yet simple, and it's a symbol that Andy was no longer a fashionista but a more mature version of herself. She no longer felt the need to over-dress but understood the power of what one puts on their back. She wanted to be something, and her time at Runway taught her to dress for it.

Yeah like no one wants remakes, reboots or sequels of already good movies (or shows for that matter) unless it's a pre planned trilogy or something. The movie's ending is so effective because it's so subtle. In the car, Miranda commends Andy for her ability to "look beyond what people want and choose for herself", and then a minute later, Andy does exactly that: she looks beyond what Miranda wants (i.e. a competent assistant for Paris fashion week), and chooses for herself. And instead of going "wait, no, not like that", Miranda ends up respecting her decision and they part as equals. It's such a complete and satisfying payoff to their relationship, I can't imagine any follow-up to feel like anything other than contrived.

Here’s the thing about bringing back the original writer and director… while it may sound awesome in theory, it often turns out that while the first movie was a labor of love and passion, because the writer has to fight to get the script approve etc. this time around the studio is reaching out to them because it looks good on paper and gives the fans hope, but the quality may not live up to the OG because this time around those people are not interested in telling that story.

the idea of a sequel to this film is a bit baffling tbh. part of the appeal of the story and miranda priestly's character is her hidden layers. a lot of what we learn about miranda is completely by accident but it makes her so much more compelling. she has a mystique and represents this almost untouchable figure but as we find out more we see the cracks in the mask she puts on. I think unless it was an origin story, I feel like a sequel would flatten her character.

In the book, Miranda came from a huge lower class family and saved up small amounts of money her older siblings were able to treat her with, and started her career at 17, running off to be an assistant to an important fashion magazine person just a few months before she was supposed to graduate highschool. She also schooled herself out of a "lowbrow" accent and taught herself french. Imo, if they ever do a prequel, it would be smart to focus on how ballsy she is (and how loving her family probably was, and supportive) instead of how cutthroat she can be. (in the book she also changed her name slightly to sound more posh but eh I didn't like that tbh.

I would like to point out how this channel points out the legitimacy of fashion. I believe whole heartedly that no matter what you wear, it is a reflection to a degree of your psychological state and identity. This channel has given such validation to why fashion is an important part of every single person's lives, from using it to sell a story in costuming or analyzing time period trends. Fashion is a way that we either consciously or even unconsciously identify ourselves as a part of a group of people we identify with as well as offers cues to what we are going through (there's a reason costume designers have a job). This channel has done such a good job in breaking down fashion to the point where I ask myself what message m y clothes convey everyday, as if I would be featured on this channel. It's more than 'looking' a certain way, its about identifying the underlying themes we see in an outfit- much more meaningful than football, in my opinion (I'm also a guy)

I saw the Devil wears Prada in the cinema for my tenth birthday, and I loved it. We didn’t have a cinema near my house as a kid so it required a day trip to Dublin City, making cinema trips rare. It has a special place in my heart for that reason, it’s one of my comfort movies that I have watched an uncountable amount of times. I don’t even know if I will bother with the sequel, the ending of the original is perfect and I don’t want to ruin it.

I love your take on things bc it’s always a different pov from mine, I do think your personal jaded past is the root of the current sentiment to this sequel lol. I think it could work and it could be fun and I’m hoping that they (the cast) have a say so in the story and the direction of the aftermath for this film. But I also don’t expect this to be better than the OG for many reason but mostly bc of the time in MY life this came out and I watched it back then. I was a young girl watching the hills and my desires went from flip-phones, hollister tank tops and a&f jean skirts to Valentino shoes and Dior dresses, a MacBook and a sidekick; with Starbucks remaining through it all lol.

The devil wears Prada is responsible for two things: my respect and admiration to fashion industry and my unhealthy lore to Meryl Streep as a actor, i remember as a young kid in 2006 the massive sensation it caused I remember it first premiering on VOD me and my entire family watched it and I loved it instantly. For a boring and bland fashion dresser, it’s responsible for why I take clothing and sense of style more serious, and as for Meryl, this is the movie that I believe not only cemented Meryl as the greatest actress of all time but the greatest actor of all time PERIOD go argue with the wall or your grandma,

This is completely unrelated: Anna Wintour is a HUGE tennis fan, and I used to work at the club she played at. Anna booked the club an hour before it technically opens, so she'd have the place to herself. The day before, my boss, Jen B., told me NOT to look or talk to her; as if that woman and I were completely different species. I was very young... 24 at the time. But that didn't feel right to me. So, the morning comes, I'm at the desk, and I see her walking up the stairs as she enters, in her signature glasses. I look DIRECTLY at her, inviting, and she takes off her glasses. I say, "Good morning!" and she says firmly, but cordially, "Good morning." The way she said it to me almost felt like she was saying, "FINALLY. Someone with a backbone". I was lucky to man the desk at that time, because the person who usually did was out sick.

While the sequel plot synopsis, examining the downfall of traditional magazine etc. sounds really topical and interesting, there’s no reason it has to be THIS IP. The need to revisit every story for a modern update is suffocating and shows that studios are unable to craft new narratives and characters. Relying on characters we already know often feels like a way to shortcut writing new stories with nuanced personalities.

The problem with the Devil Wears Prada sequel is that Miranda would immediately be running that shit. Her career would not be hurtling into the ground this badly, because she’d be the first to sell out due to the latest trends. That or her magazine would end up going the way of Limited Too, where nostalgia practically shuts out the future. Hell, A NEWSLETTER.
@lulupomegranate
@lulupomegranate 13 күн бұрын
Agreed. She's a business woman, magazines being less relevant would not come as a surprise to her, she'd see that shit years in advance and adapt.
@eatatjoes6751
@eatatjoes6751 3 күн бұрын
@@lulupomegranate I think the worst-case scenario would be that she runs a Limited Too-esque magazine, where it’s still chugging anyway as if she were never canceled, just hiding. *“Everything’s fine!”* ala Anna Wintour supporting a Nazi designer and still existing despite her abuse.

Honestly I am glad they are not doing it, because the sequel book was shit. Andy was obnoxious through the whole thing and she didn't even GET or DO anything. It was just her whining, being quirky by demanding ShakeShack, making one bad decision after another and ending up a divorced single mom lapping up attention of an ex boyfriend.

With Moana 2, that Mufasa prequel, Toy Story 5, the live action remakes of Snow White and Lilo & Stitch, Zootopia 2, Freaky Friday 2, Frozen 3 and 4, Avatar 3, 4, and 5, and now the Devil Wears Prada 2, Disney’s REALLY scrapping at the bottom of the barrel to make anything, aren’t they?
