I bought a Yamaha R7 a year and a half ago. While it was a good bike, after riding a 600 I traded it immediately for a CBR600RR and have no regrets. Parallel twins will never have the same feel as a inline 4, the sound, looks, and overall experience is way more exciting.

Sadly 600s have been neglected for some time now, when your litre bikes aren’t much heavier than your 600s and have far more power and tech it kind of reduces them to be glorified trainers for those looking to ride litre bikes without looping them down the road.

Coming from the guy with 6 bikes to choose from and the money for track days, I can’t say I agree with your opinion. Most people have 1 bike and want to experience the power of a 600 and are willing to deal with the uncomfortable aspects. That’s the whole reason the WRX is so popular. Are there far more comfortable cars out there? Yes. Are the average WRX buyers taking them to a track regularly? No. But people *want* that sports car feel it can provide at a great price, and it’s the obvious choice for someone who’s only going to own one car. NGL, Yammy seems pretty out of touch these days. Preaches “get a slow bike” but then rides 600’s and liter bikes on the track regularly, and fires his turbo hyabusa down the highway. Yeah, I’m sure for him it’s a no brainer to have a comfy bike when he has access an arsenal of two wheeled missiles in the same garage he can use any time, and regularly does.

A 600 supersport will leave your 650 in the dust to the point you will be like wow did that just happen. Totally different bikes to ride as in polar opposite. They handle different as there alot stiffer, they accelerate and break harder, there so much fun but you will know it after a long ride in your back and legs especially, that's just to do with the more aggressive seating position. I highly recommend getting one.

Arguably, DOHC inline fours were ALWAYS overkill for the streets, in every displacement, and including a lot of iconic bikes from the Big Four. Twins and singles for the streets, as Harley-Davidson, Triumph and others had long tried to do. The bikes coming out these days, including the Aprilia shown here, are spiritual successors to those twins of old.

Small in line 4 need to always be around. The only reason anyone rides those V-twin turds is manufacturers saw production cost rise then force feed that bs to the population. Anyone who rides a 660 then rides any 600cc from the big four, they will say the same thing. Those cheap v twins are good learners and track toys, that’s it.

Id rather have it than not need it, than need it and not have it. I think the theme of not being able to use a 600 on the street is in fact wrong. I have a R6 that i ride daily in a small town with moderate speed limits and bang through all the gears and have plenty of fun. I know i'm not gonna fully use the RPM range or the riding postion maybe akward or not optimal. But thats the charm of owning something fast. They are never practical, theyre not supposed to be and thats klinda the point. Its the potential of the machine and if everyone starts buying these easier to ride, subdued machines, theyre just gonna mod them back to what the R6 is anyways because thats what excites people some people. These bikes are great for the market tha wants them and should be celebrated.

I’d like to see you do a segment that highlights the notion of different ways of riding a sports bike. It seems we only see them as quasi racers where we ride like headless chickens as the bike screams its tits off underneath us, progressively destroying each system as we push everything to the extreme. What about the idea of just riding at pace - constant - using nothing more than subtle pressure on the bars? No dramatic braking or accelerating. It’s great for covering a lot of ground in comfort not bathed in adrenaline, cortisol or dopamine - just a job well done.

600 cc is way more relevant than liter bikes. If you're talking about usable power on the streets. I currently have a little Z400, but I had the FZ07 in 2014 and put 21,000 kms in a year and a half. I've also had the KLX250SM after that, a 1977 TS185 2 stroke before that, a little 49cc Honda Dio scooter, and am actually adding a Royal Enfield 350 Meteor as a second bike in like a week. 600cc inline 4 might not be your cup of tea, but they are super relevant due to insurance prices and power ratio. I agree full fairing bikes are uglier, but they also deflect wind more and blow the doors off 700cc twins. They will walk away with such ease as soon as you're at 80kmph compared to a twin with 100ccs more.

Can't really use a 600cc or a 1000cc on the street? Hmmm have you watched any gixxer brah video ever? 🤷‍♂️

Really stumping hard to convince people that race bikes shouldn't be on the street but giving away an R6 that will likely be ridden, mostly, on the street. Interesting tack. 🤔

That Aprilia looks kind of like a race bike, then when you see it ride away and hear the sound, you get a Harley vibe, not for me.

The only thing I don't like about the loss of supersports is the trickle down detuned engine options that usually make their way into FZ6/FZ1 type sport touring bikes that can still rip. Long live the inline 4 cylinder! :)

You can tell how Yammie has aged just by how his opinion on super sports has rapidly deteriorated. There’s definitely a place for them on the road still Yam. Some people like the core workout from being hunched over and forced to hug their tank.

Couldn't we limit our 600cc bikes to those still in production?

The Tuono just looks naked to me; I like a full set of fairings on my bike. Bring on the 600's.

Rs660, R7, cbr650r, ninja 650 have full fairing without being a 600cc supersport. So, what's your point ?

@@rishirajsaikia1323 I think the 600's are just about the best dang bike a man can get, bring them on - lets see more of them with all the features and tech and plenty of fairings.

I have a Tuono 660 and it’s my first bike. I love everything about it, but I’ve only done about 1200 miles and I already want faster bike like a 600 super sport or liter bike. Maybe I’ll go for the RSV4. I don’t care what Yammy says. 4 cylinders will always be better than 2.

I think yes! I have a Tuono 660, I added the quick shifter and the IMU for like $500. The only thing is the elephant in the room. It is a dog in second gear and between 5,000 and 6,000 RPM. I am hopping after the warranty is up I can update the mapping and lose the flat spot. Anyhoo I just keep it between 6,000 and 10,000 and it is fine.

Unfortunately the euro5 and BS6 standards have screwed up so many incredible engines with poor mapping, it's really a shame.

This is further proof that Kawasaki is completely gigabraining their new ZX4-RR. In a few years there's gonna be a lot of people bored of the linear delivery of a twin and no options for a proper screamer... except the ZX4 and ZX6R(if it sticks around) ;) Everyone's placing their bets that the 600 class is dying and unfun, while Kawasaki knows people are gonna miss that excitement and are putting themselves in a super strategic position for the next five or so years here... I'm excited to see how this all unfolds.

I only watched the first 10 seconds and I would argue nobody NEEDS a motorcycle at all. At least in the western world, they are just toys. Basically everybody that has a bike also has a car or truck. I own a 600cc sport bike because that's what I like. I don't like that Aprilia. I don't really like nakeds or cruisers either. I like sport bikes. The more options we have for bikes the better imo, that way there's a bike for everyone. Keep the 600s alive man, don't be spewing this garbage.

I love 600cc sports bikes, I don’t mind if a bike is slightly more street oriented i.e like 636, but the parallel twin just doesn’t do it for me.

400cc below is more for teaching and familiarizng yourself on how to ride a motorcycle. 600cc teaches you about fine movements on braking, throttle, lean angle, and shifting your weight. 1000cc+ are kind of funky, fun and all, some of them sounds iconic, but let's be honest. How much of the 200+hp would you need to go get groceries?

In Sweden it's almost impossible to legally ride a supersport on the street because insurance is mandatory and it's practically impossible to find an insurance company willing to insure one
