After running into some issues with our tiny cabin, we were left wondering where our home would be as winter neared on our off-grid Tennessee homestead. This week we show you our NEW HOME and explain what led us to this decision. We also talk you through the future plans for our cabin.

For roof protection, if you are able to, is to frame and build an elevated roof over it: wide and tall enough you could pull it out and back it in. This could serve dual purpose as a quality roof over it...or long term storage weather protection should you eventually build and live in something else on the property.

I've lived in mobile homes off and on my whole life. When I got older I started working on them.

I'm happy for you kids, I've lived in a 28 ft tow behind for 3 years with my cats and my dog with a wood stove..... 250 square feet of living space, I don't miss my big house anymore , and the 1500.00 a month mortgage. Remember all good things come to those who wait

After a fire took my house I bought a 1996 Holiday Rambler. They a very well engineered and constructed compared to today's models. It looks as though you guys got a very well maintained camper. If it was cheaply made it would not be in the nice condition it appears to be in. You two have a positive energy that will get you through and around hurdles......camp on!

With all the windows to let cold weather in you can still keep the light by using bubblewrap to keep the heat in . Another idea is to make curtains out of the mylar emergency blankets by adding a rod pocket and using duck tape or matching silver tape . To help with floor insulation get some interlocking rubber floor tiles and throw a carpet over it . Moving blankets from harbor freight make great door curtains . Skrink wrap the windows and putting plastic over the windows on the outside . I know windows are great but that is a lot of windows for a camper .

Matt, you are such a Blessed man. Your wife is a sweetheart. If you don't have a smile on your face, she will put one there for you. Such a happy person. Congrats on the new home. The living room is awesome with those big windows. Love being part of you twos viewing audience. You 2 are such a awesome couple.

I don't know about in Tennessee but in California if you put footing that are permanently affixed to the ground and then connect the shed to the footing it's no longer considered a temporary building.

You explained the situation with the cabin so well I don’t think anyone could poke a hole. Good job rebounding from the crappy situation best of luck on the conversion

Been in similar situation in Tennessee and I believe best situation for you would be build a polebarn big enough to store your camper in hook up to a septic tank (I did this myself) then get a well done that can run on solar or battery and install a hand pump also to well and make sure all inside polebarn if possible to prevent freezing water lines and keep heat bills low by blocking wind will give you also a enclosed outdoor (in barn) area to work and relax and will extend the life of your camper. Good luck and best wishes for success.

I lived in a fith wheel in the cold. It's absolutely miserable. Condensation from heating the rv will get so bad your windows and walls will freeze up. I'm talking chunks of ice. If you can figure out a way to keep the rv moisture free you may keep this from happening. We installed a skirting around the bottom and kept heat underneath to keep the pipes from freezing. We also let the black water fill and would dump only once full and leave 1/3 to keep it from freezing. Oh and the fridge will stop working once it gets cold. Something we were unaware of. If you hang a light bulb in the back it will keep that from happening. If you Google it, they show what I mean. Good luck. Oh almost forgot. Get a cat. Mice will get in and usually make a home in the water heater area.
