When it launched in 2001, the Hallmark Channel initially struggled to find its voice in the crowded world of cable network TV. Today, the channel has become synonymous with second-chance romances and feel-good holiday fare - in 2021 alone, the network premiered 40 new Christmas movies.
But Hallmark’s days as the go-to holiday romance channel may be numbered. In 2021, the GAC network rebranded as GAC Family, under the direction of former Hallmark president Bill Abbott. With a new focus came new programming, but a familiar feel and several familiar faces from the Hallmark channel. So what’s going on? We finally know why these stars left the Hallmark Channel.

When we see people cast as homosexuals worked into a Hallmark movie or series, we are DISAPPOINTED beyond words, & WE TURN OFF THE SHOW OR MOVIE RIGHT THEN & THERE. Also if the actresses are caked in makeup - looking like hookers - we turn the show off, or if the females are not dressed appropriately & riske. Good old fashioned, decent values are what we looking for in Hallmark shows & movies, and in any show or movie we watch.

I must say that I absolutely love the Hallmark Channel. In a world where every time you turn on the news or even just another television network all you hear about is doom and gloom. People getting their throats cut, getting raped, murdered or tortured. Country's going to war with each other and nothing but news of all the horrors of the world that happen around us every day. I love that there is a place to go to escape all of that just for little while. A place where the movie plots are such that you know no one is going to step outside their door and get their throat slit or head bashed against the wall. Some may call this boring but I find it a restful place to visit at the end of a long work day hearing about all the trouble of the world. A place where love and affection abounds. If people find that boring then all I can say is please keep on boring me. A perfect example of the evil in this world is the response from Michelle Duncan and Marilyn Short. If these two women are representatives of what a Christian is supposed to be then all I can say is...I think I understand why the Romans used to feed them to the lions.

I and several of my fellow Hallmark Christmas movie addicts felt the exact same way. I believe that when you mass produce the amount of movies the way that they have over the last few years it dilutes the quality. They began with new movies BEFORE Halloween, for Pete's sake. This past Christmas I kept watching the movies from years past as they seemed to have more appeal.

Good riddance to SJW actors; they and their writer comrades are responsible for turning everything they touch into shit. Won't miss them at all. Maybe this guy was responsible for the BS that was becoming more prevalent on Hallmark; if so, I won't touch GAC with a ten foot pole. Now, if only Hallmark can stop putting out the same movie 95% of the time and mix things up like they did in the beginning. Jesus, I am so tired of overworked female execs finding love with a simple man from her small town past and all actors being either chefs, wine owners, restaurant owners and of course, overworked executives. And I do blame Hallmark for foisting Megan Markle on us and the yearly royal love shows that make me want to gag. I long for the more original movies like The Christmas Card, A Season For Miracles, The Christmas Cure among a few others that broke Hallmark's very stale mold.

I believe in a “live and let live” approach to life and I would expect others to do the same. Hallmark was just fine the way they were. “If it isn’t broken, don’t “fix” it. If either actors or management want to voluntarily change their views on acceptable television, that’s fine. But I read that Hallmark received was criticized for not having LGBT programs. I wouldn’t mind that so much if that change didn’t cost me substantially each month. I can’t afford GAC and it’s totally unfair to expect people who want to watch family oriented programs to pay extra. I’m a senior living on a small pension and cannot afford to pay the extra cost of GAC. I personally don’t care to watch LGBT programs which is my right. I'm sure a lot has to do with the stars of Hallmark jumping ship. Executive Producer rights, is one of them... more money. Diversity.... another, definitely... GACFAMILY hasn't found its footing in their movies just yet... GAC has real kisses though lmao. But sometimes the movies come off just a little too boring. . . Or drawn out. I think GAC will find its way.. but now it's just ... learning about itself. Me, an avid Hallmark watcher, Lifetime romance movie watcher, and now GACFAMILY watcher.... I think it needs to get better scripts. Clearly, the actresses and actors are there, but quality wise for 2022 movies.... Hallmark is literally blowing GAC out of the park. Same with the Christmas movies... I'm waiting for the change though. I like GACFAMILY too... gave B characters a chance to star in a movie and not just be part of the second characters... We love hallmark movies and I hope diversity doesn't take center stage. I am all about diversity especially when women are all typecast as skinny barbie dolls. But when you feel it's purposely put in there to distract from the main storyline; that's when I get irritated in the movie. The movie needs to have a storyline that flows. Loved the Christmas Caper movie with the biracial couple (can't remember the name) where they'd staked out the potential art thief. But when that same actor was in another movie where they kept queing to the 2 gay friends; I felt it kind of stuck out. I know it's hard to find a balance.

I so agree with you. I used to love America's Got talent, American idol and all those shows. But now it seems that it's let's vote for the one who has the sadist gay or transgender story. I personally watched the show for the talent. I don't want to hear anybody sad sad story. Not that I lack compassion for people but that's not what I watched the show for. I remember when I was a little girl my great-grandmother what used to watch this show called Queen for a Day. Who was the game show that was based on whoever had this saddest story to tell. Well at least that was keeping with the title That was the whole point. Put these dance competition singing competitions all these shows that I've loved so much now have to make sure they have their equal share of every perversion you can imagine. Even my favorite show of shows Survivor. It's really sad. I might just have to give up homework simply because I don't know how to justify to continue paying for cable television when now we watch so little of it.

Why are we trying to pit one against the other? That type of competition only hurts us all. It is definitely an old way of living!!! Let's break out of the competitive nature and instead use cooperation and include all the movie channels. Why do the TV personalities and actors have to choose a "side"? Why can't they work with both and move back and forth? These contracts companies have are limiting.

I appreciate when an issue is answered straightforward and not skirted around. Are we or are we not speaking about homosexuality and transgenderism that's being portrayed on Hallmark as being presented as a "normal" way of living? If so, such storylines are offensive to me. I cannot understand how anyone can truthfully say or think that a male can become a female (or vice versa) at their own declaration? Seems to me an honest assessment would be that a male will always be a male - simply a biological fact. If my reasoning seems unkind it's certainly not meant to be. "Sometimes though, the truth hurts." Also, not wanting to sound vindictive against Hallmark, but what it comes down to is that I'm opposed to their using their persuasive platform to promote a lifestyle that is offensive to me....and I believe to others, too. Instead, I simply chose to become a subscriber to Frndly TV to watch GAC Movies that hold to what I believe is sound reasoning (biologically speaking) when it comes to this issue. GAC seems to have a limited viewing inventory at this time but it is seemingly enlarging its offering month by month. From the movies of theirs that I've watched thus far, the movies/acting are reminiscent of what Hallmark first became known for, i.e., "Wholesome family entertainment."

I am liberal and believe we should be tolerant and merciful, even, and perhaps especially, to people we do not understand. That said, I understand Hallmark not wanting to step into those waters. Hallmark wants to provide a safe place for their viewers. They don't want to get into the left vs. right fighting that has gone on for a long time and got especially bad after Newt Gingrich decided hatred - absolute, total and complete hatred - of liberals was the way to go........But, my point is I get Hallmark's stance and I respect it. Their movies are enjoyable and not to be taken as social statements. They are not literature in the sense that they intend to make a difference in the world, they do not intend to do that.

As far As I am concerned, I like the programs with good clean story lines which for the most part has been Hallmark , however, the writers seem to be in a suspended same old story lines! Can't figure that one out..maybe they need new writers? So, I have not watched that many of them now. I love When calls the Heart and some of the mystery stories ( channel) But if they start bringing in characters that deviate completely with moral content ..then it will,be a NEVER viewing for me. Some people want more diversity or content that goes against others moral convictions...I say there are plenty of those programs out there if you want to warp your brain and moral compass. Hopefully we will see just the opposite of those programs and stick with decent viewing because it can be done with good story lines too. Although Netflix came under scrutiny because of some content with children exhibiting poor behaviour...they do have wonderful programming right now with no sexual content nor cursing...which is a delight to me. And plus great story lines! 👍👍

Hallmark has a very loyal following that they will lose if they try to push that particular narrative. I'm not talking about race. They are not interested in what most networks are pushing, and the people calling for this so called diversity are not the demographic who typically care about these kinds of cutesy, traditional, wholesome movies Hallmark was known for. The networks and cable channels are saturated with that kind of "representation." Why can't people have choices, everything is not for everyone, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Of course it’s about race that’s what diversity is all about…. for years all you saw were white actors and once in a while you might have seen a black or Hispanic or Indian actor in a very small supporting role and that’s not the way America is and today we’re seeing more actors of various shapes and colors and sizes and even LGBTQ characters…. And I 100 percent support Hallmark in these changes-it’s about time!!!

While I’ve enjoyed all the Hallmark movies, after a while I just kind of grew tired of seeing the same faces and the same faces with very little diversity. This does not reflect what we see in America. While the usual stable of actors on the Hallmark Channel are all great actors, I love seeing new fresh faces and actors in the movie lineups now and applaud the new regime under Wonya Lucas. She and her team are bringing more diversity and newer storylines yet keeping Hallmarks excellence intact. I’m someone who likes to see new faces and more creative story lines and I don’t want to see the same actors just rotated over and over again in just different movies and I love the fact that we are seeing other favorite and beloved actors that we haven’t seen in Hallmark movies before!! GAC Family is a "new" Hallmark rip off, ran by the former boss ,Bill Abbott of Hallmark. He quit Hallmark because hei didn't want to cast on diverse levels. He didn't want to cast LGBTQ characters, POC as leads in the Hallmark movies that they produced. ( thats why you never saw that when he was running the show) That's how Hallmark (of old) got the nick name "Vanilla channel" There are some stars that are refusing to go to GAC family because of Abbots ties to Donald Trump and his unwillingness to cast diverse characters. He may try to adapt to the times but I know he left because he didn't want to air the LGBTQ commercial.

So it’s ok to have BET but not a “vanilla” channel? And every tv show or commercial has an LGBTQ and an interracial couple. There’s plenty of POC in lead roles. So what’s the problem with just having shows that tell a story without it being ok’d by the diversity police?
