Having made many trips from the mainland USA to the Bahamas day and night in aircraft and boats since 1967, I have always felt more comfortable wearing a personal EPIRB with strobe light and signal mirror attached to my life vest. Usually, the vessel sinks with the ELT, so having the EPRB on your person and staying together is the best chase of rescue. A raft requires some training regarding positioning, operating and staying in it. Watch videos on it. Good basic video.

Totally agree. We were well trained to handle everything right up to a chute pull or water landing… after that we would have been relying on luck. Acceptable risk? Maybe. I kissed the spinner when we got home.

Wow!!! I'm a new subscriber based on the content you presented here. I have a few questions for you. 1. Can you possibly provide a cost breakdown for your trip, excluding the fuel breakdown? 2. Did the AOPA site provide all the information you needed to make informed decisions about where to stay things to do, etc.? 3. Now that you've completed the trip and hindsight is always 20/20, what would you have done differently, or what would you like to explore further?

Thanks for sharing, and for the customs walk through. It would be nice to hear why you chose Marsh Harbor. Also, that paint job is so awesome. Love the view out the wing. That was a good series as well. Flew a Bonanza into Staniel Cay. Great place as well. Stuff yo do on the island, but not too much. Easy to rent a small boat and see some of the close islands, swim with pigs and sharks, etc.

We chose Marsh because it was a little further “out there” than Freeport or Nassau, but not too adventurous for first timers. Staniel is next on my list.

As someone who is getting ready to schedule their Discovery Flight this made me pretty excited, I actually would love to learn to fly and then be able to fly my family to the Bahamas. It shows just how dedicated I will have to be and how much I got to learn but what a good goal to set and it will certainly be a fun journey. I've always dreamt of flying just never went for it, so I figured if I could get the opportunity to take the chance why not learn and give it a go :D might just find something that fits me and if not I'll be able to shelf that dream and find a new one ☺

Great video and thanks for taking us along. I know I'm about 3 months behind (story of my life) so not sure if you will read this. How bad were the winds in the Bahamas as far as take off and landings?
@ChaseAviation
@ChaseAviation 9 ай бұрын
Winds were under 10kts and basically right down the runway from what I can remember. I could see them getting to be a problem earlier and later in the year though. The hairiest part is the lack of a control tower and Miami center loses you after you descend below 7,500 so you’re on your own with CTAF and the jets don’t care.

@ChaseAviation

Hey Bill, thanks! We still had about 75lbs of useful load left with full fuel. Raft was only 35lbs. Didn’t need anywhere near that much fuel but it meant we didn’t need to buy any at Marsh.

My son and I are getting ready to fly to Bahamas in my 210. We would like to record it like you did. What equipment do I need in the airplane for that video recording
@ChaseAviation
@ChaseAviation 6 ай бұрын
It’s maddening work. I use GoPro’s. If you want cockpit audio you need to find a patch cable to connect your GA headset jacks to USB-C cable which then plugs into a GoPro. It’s processing the footage that’s a night mare. However if you just want wing footage, that’s easy. But you only get like 30 mins of battery life in 4K.
@FlyMeAirplane
@FlyMeAirplane Жыл бұрын
I solved that noise issue with an audio transformer. The Transformer isolates the mic input on the camera from the intercom. Some wire cutting is in order if you want to try it. I leave my camera hooked to power now. Let me know if you want some info.
@ChaseAviation
@ChaseAviation Жыл бұрын
Dear God, YES! What I really want to do is have both (and hopefully a third) cameras all piped in to the audio feed for redundancy but for much, much easily multi cam syncing. The way I do it now, I have to look for an event that’s visible on all cameras. Misery. Can you reach out via Instagram? Or via our company website?

that was fun flight. so, what's the process to get ifr out of there?
@ChaseAviation
@ChaseAviation Жыл бұрын
I should have addressed that in the video. You have to be airborne at or above 7,000 for Miami Center to hear you. I’m not sure if there is a way to call them and get a clearance void time or what that process would be if Marsh were IFR or cloud layer that kept you below 7,000.
@cessnafo
@cessnafo Жыл бұрын
Ifr out of there is a pain. You have to call Nassau radio for clearance. Ive had to wait 30+ minutes for outbound. Weather turned VFR and i was able to get out.
@ChaseAviation
@ChaseAviation Жыл бұрын
Oh, right Nassau radio. Someone told me that. I’ve got to think it’s pretty rare that the field is legit IFR but even an overcast layer could make it tough.

If you are a PRIVATE PILOT can you get paid for making youtube flight videos?
@ChaseAviation
@ChaseAviation 8 ай бұрын
So, I’m not and Attorney, and this is not legal advice: CFR 14 Part 61.113(b) seems to suggest that you COULD, provided that it was YOUR business. You could not make videos for someone else and you could not carry passengers. But bigger picture… there’s not much money to be made here until you make it BIG. Even bigger picture; never stop learning. Private license is a license to get yourself killed. Go on to Instrument immediately and then pursue Commercial ASAP.
@mikeshort3838
@mikeshort3838 4 ай бұрын
I agree getting the instrument rating is almost “required “ if you plan to do any real cross country flying. Getting commercial is definitely good but not nearly as important as the instrument rating. Commercial isn’t really all that different from private, just a few relatively simple maneuvers and a bunch of regulations on when and how you can get paid to fly. Great video!
