Lots of information and cooperation in this one. Thanks guys. I spent a summer piloting a beautiful John Deere with a large post banger on the rear. It could drive fence posts and telephone poles into hard ground. The boss (fencer of 30+ years experience) knew what to do if the pole stopped hard before fully planted. He poured a bucket of water down beside the pole and they all went in after that. Skilled work. A great summer. Take care all.

Sweet set up. I used to run barbed wire with an old Portuguese rancher named Manuel Rose. I miss that guy. I can still make the wire sing. Just used a sledgehammer, 15:28 wire fencing pliers, and a hatchet. I was working on a ridge one day some years ago up in the Santa Cruz Mountains. As I finished the job a light breeze came up and I smelled his cologne which smelled like hay. No hay around that day. So I just said I know you are here old man, I did it just like you taught me. Laugh if you want, but he was there, just checking up on my work. Take care

Hello, I really enjoy the content you guy’s are putting out. Entertaining and educational. The video when the guys put your trailer in the ditch was awesome! Going back about 20 years ago I was coming over a large hill with a brand new 16’ enclosed trailer, inside it was a Finn Eagle 254 miniature skid steer and a cement mixer. I looked over to my right and a 16’ trailer was passing me in the right lane. It smashed smashed into and busted through the guardrail in to the median ditch. I was relieved it didn’t kill anyone. I let one of my guys hook up the tailer, he locked the hitch on top of the ball. This business is only for the crazy, keep on fencing. Great content!

Now I have to go back to work building fences, while thinking about this machine. The only thing I would add to this system is a set of Forstner drill bits to aid in easily making mortise holes. Drill the center and quickly chisel the corners.

A watchmaker would love this machine - many, many complications each with a purpose and a function and all crammed into a compact package.

I operate a machine very similar to this to collect soil samples and install monitoring wells.

That was a pleasure to watch (just having cut, dragged, peeled, dug and set about 60 fence posts myself). You mentioned that skilled labour is hard to find.. it is really strange right now! There are tons of low income jobs out there where most people can't make a living (I have children so working 4 jobs is not something that I would want to do). Finding a good job is really hard. On the other hand if you are an electrician or any trades person and you are self employed you do very well right now. I think government is expanding rapidly but finding a good job where you are striving to better something is probably extremely hard as well. It seems to be all over the place especially since the shutdown.

Just had some fence done on a paddock here in Norfolk UK, the tension posts are done differently here. Two vertical posts with a horizontal one between and wire from the top of the inner post to the base of the end post, that way all the forces are internal except for the shear force trying to drag the end post horizontally through the ground, from an engineers perspective an elegant solution.

Mate, ever come over to Oz, look me up and I'll hook you up with a few contractors here. I don't use heavy machinery and another contractor mate does, he's built his own machines like the solo track. We both do a lot of steel and would be happy to show you the differences to other parts of the world. Keep up the great work.

Laziness is NOT the mother of invention. Necessity is the mother of invention. Laziness is the father. They are not driving those posts in Georgia red clay. Here you just do not drive wooden posts. Try it and you splinter them. You can drive T posts using a Bobcat or some other type of loader bucket, but the wooden posts go into drilled holes with Sakrete as filler. That's an interesting brace technique which we also don't use here.

What I'd like to see is a puller that pulls the fence so many ft lbs to get it tight

I am an old fencer and are now setting up a new farm in Devon on a rock base that is 10" below the topsoil surface. Will this machine drill the rock ok. It is what I call soft rock, not granite. Do you know anyone in the Okehampton area that operates a machine like this please?

in 1960 my boss made a post pounder from a heavy metal round chunk of metal mounted on the front of a JD-A 3-point tractor. it used a cable to lift the metal weight. he made it to put the post into the ground at an angle. He should have patented it. I was only 15 living on that ranch and we put miles of post in. then yrs later a hyd unit came out that mounted on the back of a tractor, and it pulled out post too. Dude, were you wearing pink tennis shoes?

HEY CHECK IT OUT! there is still people with common sense and can operate more than a tablet out there and still alive....... To bad they had to fly 7,000 miles to england to find him LOL
