We just realized our 2,800 mile Nissan 370z "time capsule" that we bought cheap at auction is secretly twin turbo charged! It has a full greddy twin turbo kit boosting power up a ton! It also has the full race straight pipe exhaust. Did the previous owner blow the motor hence why it was never driven past 2014 or was this car just abandoned? It hasn't run in 8 years! I think the motor is probably fine. I had a buddy with a twin turbo 350z with stock motor and it ran crazy fast but never blew up. 40k miles. Unfortunately he got t-boned in it and it got totaled.

My guess is either tragic death to the owner or maybe a research parts test car. If the motor blew with all the aftermarket parts and low miles it wouldn’t look untouched.

Either the motor is blown or the previous owner died and his possessions were donated. That’s the only thing that makes sense.

Those vq37vhrs are such beast of motors. They can handle 550whp on stock internals because of the forged crank and rods. It’s a very stout engine, really one of the best modern V6 engines out there

Don't for get about the j35, that's what I got in my manual 07 TLS. The vq and j32 and j35 are the best .

Am hoping it's not blown to bits inside , I know they are safe for around 450bhp on stock block and internals anything more and it will go bang

I just supercharged my Roadster after a lot of research. Generally it’s torque that kills these motors before HP, and several people have hit 500-550 ftlbs in stock block without issue to motor. That could be 600-650whp, depending on supporting mods(fueling is critical) and tune. I’m 500-550whp and it’s already a handful.

The VQ engine and transmission are super strong. It is really comfortable on the stock engine running 450 to the wheels. 500 is the max. But he may have a built motor in there. With a built bottom end you can crank it up and the car will take it. It really is a strong tuner platform as it is way overbuilt for the street tune they sell. With the big brakes it is nice. I have the fancy version, the 2015 Infiniti Q60. Great sounding car and it is well behaved on the road.

I also have a 2015 Q60 ! (G37 basically just the last year when they were renamed for 14-15) 65,000 miles AWD and manual swapped :)

@@hexicalcat4937 Nice! I envy your manual swap! I never use auto. The paddle shifted auto is pretty nice with rev matched downshifts but a stick would be best.

Its actually torque that kills these motors. The 450-500 max number is for wheel torque, if you have a good tuner and ramp in boost progressively using the evap solenoid for ecu controlled boost you can run around 600whp & 500wtq on the stock motor for quite a long time with proper maintenance and supporting mods. The single turbo kit my car has sees these numbers on a bunch of z's with about 13-14psi and 500whp & 400wtq on wastegate pressure

I just bought a 2010 red 370Z roadster, touring with sport package. Standard equipment same as your example I believe. It’s got 29k miles on it, and in beautiful shape. Mine has the film protection on the paint where the roof makes contact also.

I have 140,000 mile 370z. The convertible top is likely these elastic bands that are used to aid the motor. I had to replace mine despite the top being down 95% of the time. I'm in Scottsdale. Boulders area. Never rains. I think the elastic bands' life is determined more by time and not use. It will lose its elasticity over the years. And yes, I lived at my parents home in Scottsdale. Not my money, before anyone asks. The very used Z however, is mine.

Just take out the fuse for the fuel pump and crank it, if it cranks its not a blown engine, then just try start it...

About 2008 the Infiniti G37 Coupe and the BMW 330I coupe turbo went head to head on a race track somewhere in the US. I remember reading the article. The car press were all their to watch and evaluate. On lap 3 the BMW limped off the track because the transmission fluid had over heated which engaged a safety solenoid that cut power so the box wasn't destroyed (both cars may have been auto). The Nissan was still running hard, as they are designed to. From memory all the automotive writers rated the G37 as better than the BMW !! Fact. Thats why Nissan / Infiniti car owners are so passionate about their cars. They go hard without breaking. All you have to do is service fluids on time, including antifreeze so your head gaskets dont rot from electrolysis, plugs on time and they''ll do 300,000 miles.

Also, any NA engine can handle boost, it just depends how much and how well it's tuned, what fuel it's running, etc. The high compression isn't a big factor, but I wouldn't run any more than 8-10 psi on that engine without head studs, possibly aftermarket head gaskets, (E85 or meth injection would help), and make sure you find out what engine management system it has, whether it's a stock ECU, a standalone unit, or some type of piggyback, and if it does start and run the very first thing I would do is take it to a tuner and have them check the tune, put it on the dyno, etc. I have been building high horsepower imports for years. I have a 1997 Honda Civic coupe that makes 709 whp at 34 psi with a built engine and a 2004 Acura TL (my daily) that has a 3.2L SOHC VTEC V6 with a six speed manual and a GTS3582 turbo kit that I fabricated myself. I love my Hondas, but I have always wanted to own a 350Z or 370Z. Honestly I still would love to own a 300Z Z32 and swap out the VG30 for a VQ37...

If the engine actually blew up, it's probably because he probably added a twin turbo kit before breaking the engine in. The mileage points on that direction, if that's the case.

Rewatching the whole series actually a crazy find and you guys found this low mileage Z at an auction that does everything, it can have super car power, be a grand tourer, sports/track car, amazing on the turns. To buy Z with similar miles I found a Coupé for sale for 30,500$ + twin turbo kit + supporting mods your well over 40,000$… super jealous

I have a 2006 350z Touring Roadster. That film where the back of the top sits is on my car. Not sure if that is a stock option as I bought it a few years ago with under 5k miles on it (No damn turbos though :( lol), but I say leave it on there...

You should go online and buy the Monroney Label. This would tell you the car’s original factory and dealer specs. Also when you go to sell this thing, having that handy would be good. Food for thought. Thanks for all the fun videos! I am watching from just down the road jn Gilbert, AZ.

The car was probably bought for a knucklehead kid by his parents and his parents took it back and got rid of it because he got caught street racing. There's probably nothing wrong with the engine. Something was probably disconnected(sabotage) by the last owner before it was taken away.

You could run 10 more HP and blow it up. It's all about the tuning. If there's way too much timing, or it was run really lean, it doesn't take long to do damage. My guess is it's fine

Why not just drain the oil and look for shiny metal? Why not invest in a scope so you can pull a spark plug and look down the cylinder and see the piston condition?

My possible theory on why it’s very low miles is (if it’s not blown or has some crazy mystery issue); if some old guy owns it, if by any chance his son bought and customized the car and either moved away or passed away and the car was left for years in the garage. Had a similar situation happen to a friend. He built a Miata and passed away after a motorcycle accident. The family didn’t want to touch the car for years. They just kept it in the garage.

You have to do more research on the vhr 3.7 and just the vq In general it’s one of the best v6 ever made it has 4 cams as well just watch some videos on the engine it will surprise you what this thing can handle and how many different builds you can do with this engine

I am in no way a 370Z expert, but it has a VQ37HR (most likely) that makes 330 HP stock with an 11.0:1 compression ratio. With those twin turbos it's most likely tuned on low boost, but those engines make great smooth power and I wouldn't be surprised if it made 350-400 whp at 5-7 psi.

Do not take off the clear film where the roof touches the body. This is to stop the roof rubbing through the paint where there's dirt and sandy particles lying on there.

It's not just the boost. It's the tune, i.e., if it goes too lean, the amount of boost becomes less relevant.

Motor is probably fine unless he ran 800hp trying to murder absolutely everything. They aren't as bulletproof as the 2JZs so to say but they can make quite a bit of power before needing internals, 5-600whp is about where you'd wanna stop to be on the reliable side. Which torque is really what kills them, stay under 500 wheel torque

Personally I’d like to think that the previous owner was actually a vigilante who owned many cars and needed lots of power hence the turbos and other mods. on his first successful bank robbery bust he used that car which caused him to retire it for memory sake.

For everyone saying it can only handle 450 550 on stock block is wrong I’ve seen these things last a couple years making 700-800 whp on stock block you can even boar out to a 4.2l or just build the engine and make 1100+ whp can definitely be a super car killer with just 800 to the wheel you can hang with turbo r8 and stuff like that

The boot is not opening because the roof is not closed properly Hold the roof button down to the closed position until the cars notifies you that the roof is completely closed and locked in place
