We Go To ALL OUT WAR w/ The Bulkheads On My Lagoon (hint: Nobody Wins)

I power tool my way through the floors and ceilings on our Lagoon 450 Catamaran to completely expose the BROKEN BULKHEADS but then we get stumped on how to get them out. @Sailing Parlay Revival comes over and figures it all out, so I donate my old cabin parts to them in appreciation. Colin and Jamie ended up transplanting tons of pieces of our boat to rebuild Parlay. Now Epic will forever be a part of their adventures around the world!

Morning David...this morning I have watched two lesbians in vanwives,Colin on Parley and yours is still.the most watchable channel..I'm sleeping in my van in the heat at the start of the wet season here in tropical far Northern Australia so can appreciate your situation. I spent 3 yrs rebuilding a catamaran in a boatyard that was previously a swamp in Port Douglas.mozzies sandflies etc...like where you are,amazing scenery but sweating like at Vatican choir boy in 42 Celsius and 95 % humidity..never ceases to amaze me how toxic boat repairs are compared to the healthy lifestyle at the end..your videos are so watchable because they are so easy to relate too..keep your spirits high and don't forget to enjoy the beauty surrounding you..best of luck mate...its all worth it in the end.

Dude! Colin and I have this ongoing thing where we keep 1-upping each other. I'm framing this comment and installing it on Parlay somewhere. Also we love vanlife...instead of the boat we almost went vanlife 100%. What kind of van are you in? We've got a diy Transit that's we'll take for a X-country road trip next week when I get back to texas!

@@david_shih good stuff.. extra long high roof Mercedes van and have a ford transit to drive around that always needs something fixing, hence the purchase of the merc which I should have on the road soon..yup van life is OK but sailing is always better but boat ownership in the cyclone belt not so good..had my 38ft catamaran smashed up in cyclone Debbie 4 yrs ago when it was hit by two other boats..one being a 60ft trawler..was a total loss and not insured, almost impossible to insure boats here now...keep up the good work. I think once the destruction stops and you start rebuilding, things become alot better..let see who splashes first..you or Colin ...good luck. Maybe there should be a channel where you all get together..lesbian van wives, Colin n babe's, and you and a huge Ryobi tool collection ,covering sailing and van life...now that would Trump the lot !!!

So when are you and Collin going to buy that marina and turn it into a destination? Bigger prybars and a sawzaw with a long blade would have done those screws in. Sometimes you just have to get mid evil on that crap. Get some sun on those legs to dry your skin up so the glass fibers wont stick in you. Also take cold (as possible) showers after so you don't open your pores letting glass in during a shower.
@david_shih

I would suggest putting the vacuum can outside. The filter on that will miss some of the fine particles and exhaust them back into the surrounding air. Also of you can put a large exhaust fan over one of the ports in the area you are working (seal it well so it is only drawing from inside), that will create negative pressure in the work area keeping dust from reaching other areas of the boat.
@david_shih
@david_shih 2 жыл бұрын
Great minds think alike bro! I actually bought extra hoses so i could feed the exhaust ports of the 2 vacs to a homemade baffle that connects to the porthole. I also got hepa filters + hepa vac bags for the vacs when not using that exhaust system. I'm a bit freaked out about dust in lungs! And check out the vid next week to see something similar to the negative pressure system I managed to piece together with the limited supplies in Panama! Thanks for all the awesome recommendations...sounds like you've definitely done this before!

@david_shih
@david_shih 2 жыл бұрын
Wow the deep question...i like it. So long story long, when it comes to being away from my wife and kids, that's definitely not worth it. Hearing my son and daughter tell me how bad he misses me or when he begs me not to leave--it nearly breaks me. As for the boat, once I'm done I'll be able to take the family sailing around the world in a boat that I know is absolutely strong enough. I'll never have to second guess it. And, I'll be able to do it on a boat that I probably wouldn't be able to afford today because of the huge price increases due to covid. And then there are the amazing relationships. Like the lifelong friends I've made with the Parlay crew and the new friends I meet in the most random of ways, like yourself. But one of the best things to come out of the broken boat is this youtube channel, which actually came from Colin's encouragement. I've been wanting to so this since 2012, but always half-assed it and never dove in head 1st.

If you have glass dust just hanging in the air inside the boat, just take a box fan and tape a hvac filter to the front of it and set it in the middle of whatever part of the boat you are in and let that thing run day and night. It will eventually cycle all the air through that filter and take most of the particles out. Bonus points for making a box fan "sandwich" where you put the filter between two fans, one pushes and the other pulls for stronger air flow through the filter. I think I already told you about the "lint roller" hack. Take that roll of duct tape, pull some out, wrap it back around the roll in reverse onto itself then roll it on your skin. Once it loses its stickiness just rip that piece off and re-wrap another length. Makes the best lint roller in the world for pulling fiberglass right out of your skin like magic. If you want to cover large areas, just reverse wrap duct tape around a paint roller. You may laugh but besides pulling out fiberglass its amazing at keeping your sanity when you need to pull dog hair off you comforter or couch or whatever. Over time I end up with a paint roller that has so much tape on it that it weighs 5 pounds and is big around as a loaf of bread. Oh well, just more surface area, haha..... Glad you are making progress friend, hope it's all going well. Hang in there!

Yes...I went and bought a bunch of lint rollers after your last comment. They work, but get clogged up super fast. Now your diy duct tape on a small paintroller idea is f'ing EPIC. I will absolutely use that, so thank you!

@@Axe_North don't understand french at all, but i know skilled editing when I see it! Fast paced cuts, great use of zooms, nice music choices, and nice on screen graphics. If a vid can keep my attn when I don't even understand it then it's gotta be good right?? When are you going to start sailing???
