We have problems with cut worms here in Texas. I start in the red Solo cups, but when ready for the garden I cut the bottom 1/4 off and use the Solo cup as a barrier with the cup lip about 2 inches above grade. Keeps the cut worms away from the plant until they are big enough to survive on their own.

Great idea , Thank you We already have many tomatoes, peppers , cucumbers in the ground & raised bed and on our deck in grow bags * planters , I abhor those worms Last year , I caught one and my granddaughters were shocked I found it , picked it off & had to take care of it. I explained to them , they can eat our whole garden in 1 day .... Weather here in Montgomery County, Texas has been beautiful, I'm still succession planting , I still have some plants under grown lights, and will be harding them off tomorrow and then this weekend Plant about 12 more tomatoes & sweet peppers & jalapeños plants.... Just incase .. Happy growing & I hope we don't end up having 120 temps like last summer , My husband put up shade clothe but until September last year , we didnt get anything .... I pray we all have a good harvest this year. Mrs josette Montgomery County, Texas 🙏

To save writing on the cups I got a box of 1000 wood coffee stirrers and write on them with a sharpie. Then as I plant the seeds I put the marker in the cup. They can be reused or put in the garden to show what the plant is. Very convenient. Plus I decide how many cups I want to plant of each kind, make ahead of time and don't over plant.

Thanks for sharing! We always grow Cherokee Purple also. It's always been our favorite tomato. However, 2023 we tried a new-to-us tomato and it won the spot for the best tomato sandwich. Even my 82 year old Pennsylvania Dutch in her right mind mother, middle child off a 400 acre dairy farm, said "tomato sandwich," with the first bite. We were very surprised as we have always known the Cherokee Purple to be the best tasting tomato hands down. We grew 152 tomato plants last year and dozens of different types. I put up enough sauce for 2 years feeding 12 (soon to be 13) people. We are growing for fresh eating, salsa and salads 2024 limited to Cherokee Purple, Thornburn's Terra-Cotta, Black Beauty, German Pink slicers and Sun Gold and Chocolate cherry tomatoes.

I tried a German Johnson plant last year but ours, like you said you experienced, it did not produce but about a hand full of fruit. I thought it was because it just did not get enough sun in my yard. Something I learned last year and had never heard before is that when the suckers are pruned off they can be planted. I tried that with several (of the "Sweet 100's") just to see how they would do and they all produced some fruit. They ended up being extra plants which was neat.

We call Tommy Toes cherry tomatoes in NV. It sounds like you’re planting a nice selection. Somebody commented that Matt is now the Plant Manager and that made me laugh! If you put up a “how to build a greenhouse video” to instruct us on how to do that, I’m going to have my husband watch it because that looks totally sensible for what we would need.

Also, i seen this method for growing seedlings, you get about a 4 ft strip of burlap or bubble wrap, or cardboard strip being maybe 6 or 8" wide, take your potting soil and cover the strip then roll up like a jelly roll, then you plant your seeds on the top and set in a tray, no need to up pot! no need for cups or cells, im going to give it a try next year
