Smartbot wants to kill all Humans and SuperBot wants to save Humans. These games are incomplete, but they are connected. Hey Jay, not that you'll see this but: I'm still running a gtx 770 and you wouldn't wanna know what kind of frankenstein homebrew madness ive done to it to keep it running since 2012/2013. I've used the sciency experiments you've done over the years as a basis for my highly experimental repairs. But im gonna tell you anyway: 1: Homebrew heatpaste involving used/recycled heatpaste mixed with "other stuff" to pad out the used paste.. 3 yrs and still going. 2: Fans literally falling off their mounts/shafts and being glued on with almost everything except actual super glue 2+ years 3: Fan bearings dying so using grease /vegetable oil / lard to grease the shaft on the fans and heve them spinning inside of the dead bearings ~ 2yrs 4. Using deskfans and other various household fans to "assist" with cooling. - experiment failed Ive applied similar homebrew tactics to my CPU paste / cooler fan which gave up the ghost for abit but im happy to report i've had much greater success. the temps are actually still quite good.. considering.. ~70-90c at 100% load. After of all that and despite my best efforts im sad to say GPU temps have been affected "slightly" by my experimentation over the years.. GPU puuurrrrs at 95c for a long time now (years) and probably 100db while at 100% fanspeed but you know what? She's still going strong.. running apex legends at around 50-60fps @1080 almost everyday.. Res evil 2, every battlefield since BF3 and many many other titles.. Everyday i want her to give in to all the punishment and end the torture but she just wont give up. so i must continue with this experiment in the Gtx770's honor :D So heres to YOU and inspiring me to try the things you told us NOT to do and to some degree it actually working! Honest to god, No BS, true story.

Anything after mid 2000s pretty difficult but definitely doable. Older electronics circuits had poor esd protection so alot of older hardware was alot more susceptible. Flashed it to an EVGA model (using that handy -6 switch) and I can now lower the fan speed to 0RPM if need be. But I'll be keeping it at 20% until the card hits 50C as recommended by Arctic. Thanks again for reminding me how easy it is to fix things if you do your research!

I've worked on a lot of non-typical electronics, some of which had the potential to get wet. Our standard when it happened was to blow it off with pressurized air, and let it dry for 24 hours. Realistically, 8 is probably fine, but we aired on the side of caution. Of course, be careful with how much pressure there is to the air if the component has smaller parts that may be damaged.

I said you should clean it with distilled water and let it dry. Those spray bottles very likely contain salts and soaps which will turn into salts. Letting those be drained away with distilled water will very likely fix the issue. Since you narrowed it down to the second DP port it would likely only need to be done to that area. The thing is tho I personally would not do that unless I absolutely needed that second DP port. Good video. Nice to see it back.

Odds are pretty good that the traces to the dp have been damaged due to a bit of electrolysis. I'd pull the cover and sink off and see if any of the traces have been damaged it only takes a couple seconds for damage to occur when you've got electricity and liquids together none of that is necessarily permanent just hard to repair.

if you bricked your bios, you can, on a very technical level, manually write the flash by attaching it to an external, appropriate eprom writer. Typically you short a reset pin to ground while the chip is powered and then write the flash. I think most bios chips are 6-pin. This would result in using SPI (Serial Programmable Interface). The only thing left to get the tech docs that state the memory locations/headers to write to.

There are some resistors on the card that make up the hardware PCI-e ID number that is presented at hardware level. You used to be able to mod these thing to get e.g. an nVidia Grid card to show up as a Tesla, then flashing the Tesla BIOS on to the EEPROM was not hindered by ID mismatch between hardware and BIOS revision. I think it's a lot more complicated, or at least undocumented as of right now from the 10 series and up.

Actually corrosion is pretty likely depending on what was shorted. If a high power track shorted to a low power one on the port there might have been an arc that corroded the contact points instantly and then left a bunch of oxide that is still potentially shorting which may manifest in the card blanking when going to higher bandwidth modes such as higher resolution of booting into windows.

lol loved the video jay. Long story short this happened to me years ago with an ATI 6800 card and I just said eff it and tossed it in the dish washer with a cup of vinegar and the card came back to life including the bad port. I did this 4 years ago and I am still using the ATI 6800 card to this day on my old socket 1366 server.

10:33 You can type cmd into the address-bar in windows explorer. It will open it in the current directory. This works with the powershell too. This only works if you don't need admin-rights.

Here's a tip. Windows Command Prompt (and PowerShell too) will autocomplete filenames and paths when you hit tab. If there are multiple files that match what you typed, you can keep hitting tab to cycle through them.

You should revisit the card couple of months later to see if any corrosion develops. Also you could put it under load over that time to simulate it being used (or have somebody actually use it), to see if it would expedite any corrosion-caused issues.

Jay someone needs to show you tab completion in the command prompt as well as PowerShell. Also there is an easy way to open the cmd prompt to a specific folder. Simply locate your folder in Windows explorer and in the address bar select everything and type cmd and press enter. It will open to that location BUT does not allow you to select run as administrator.

Try to put some (a lot of) Flux on the card and heat it up with a heatgun to clean the card of possible corrosion. Learned this from Louis Rossman. Alternatively, I've also cleaned cards by using a soft toothbrush and dishwashing liquid soap. Revived some cards this way.

Video Idea Do some control test with a few of the same motherboards and CPUs even with water droplets. Try to find where water will kill the board immediately if it makes contact and in areas that the water does not kills the board immediately, let the water sit for maybe 20 minutes to 40 minutes for a test of if your loop is leaking how long do you have to spot it.

12:30 - well you did drop the card off it's precarious mount a couple of times so it's possible that's what damaged the port and not the liquids. I think you should be adding this to the hall of heroes for being one tough S.O.B.

Hi Jay, This is a follow up to my last comment. I realized after I sent the comment that it only works on the root drive and not other drives. So if you replace "cmd.exe /T:1e /k CD %1" with "cmd.exe /T:1e /k pushd %L" it will work for other drives on the system as well including USB drives. Mapped NAS drives don't work with this until you use it on the Network drive first. Then the mapped drives work as well. It's pretty sweet actually. Have a great day. Brad

Back in the old days I flashed a 5900XT with a 5900 Ultra BIOS and it ran beautifully. At max load the card reached a max of 100 degrees celsius, but no thermal throttling mind you. Also, you have autocomplete in CMD using the TAB-key.

There's a usb device that china sells that allows you to clip a cable and socket onto an eprom chip that is still soldered onto a board. The software is not very intuitive, but you can reflash the eprom to the chip from the command window it opens. Might be abit late to mention but you might be able to save that other card with it.
