In this one, we make a stop on our return route from Florida to cross off one of my bucket list rocks: Crowley Ridge Agates! I absolutely adore Crowleys and have always wanted to find my own, so getting to stop and hunt for some was such an awesome experience, even if we did only have a few hours to stop. We ended up walking away with a gorgeous little pile of heavily banded agates, a handful of extremely well preserved Favosites, some banded chert, and even a few pieces of petrified wood! Alexis even found a huge geodized Crinoid calyx! It was a great day for sure, and I am so happy we got the opportunity to stop and cross off one of my bucket listers! I hope you all enjoy this one, and I will have another one out soon!

Sorry, I’m a mom so I have to suggest things: you should carry a small bucket at all times in your vehicle with the tools you use to collect - a spray bottle being the first item.

I actually do have my "travel box" in my car but I forgot to transfer it over to Alexis's car for the trip🤦 spray bottle, extra rock picks, chisels, bug spray, sun screen, hand sanitizer, a first aid kit, and paper towels, perfect for my trips but doesn't do much good when I forget it in the other car😂🤦

Wow, you weren't kidding, those are beautiful. Hey, Alexis is developing a sharp eye for finding these awesome agates! Good job. That cab polished up very nicely, very pretty. Hey, got my box of auction stuff, so very cool, and my grandson is going to love them. Glad you guys got a chance to go hunt Crowley Agates, they were worth the effort!

I would like to suggest vibratory tumbling. I rotary tumbled some bigger Crowleys, the quartz sections dissolved away like sugar - turning one big piece into a few small pieces.

That is a great suggestion! I was a little concerned about those quartz pockets 😅 I may hold out on doing any tumbling until I can get a hold of a vibratory, I would hate to mess up the few we have😂 thanks so much for watching!

@@leslieprather2611 yes, this was on our return route during our road trip to Florida, there are definitely more corals in Montana the farther east you go though! Like in Billings I have maybe found a small handful over the years, but from Miles City onward, you will typically find one or two every hunt. There seems to be a lot more coral out there. I was just as excited about the corals as the agates in this one! We NEVER find this many corals in one day!

So it’s my theory that most of these were originally from southeast Missouri and were washed here 🤷🏻‍♂️ what do you think? Anyway let me know when you’re heading back through Missouri. I can show you creeks where these agates could also be called gravel. Yeah it’s everywhere!!!

@ronyrockhound939
@ronyrockhound939 2 ай бұрын
These rocks originate from Crowley Ridge, Arkansas; a 200 mile stretch of land, protruding upward, that used to be an island when the Gulf of Mexico extended up into Utah. The Ridge continues to rise by millimeters every year, pushing up new rocks to be eroded away on a regular basis. Amazing the variety, even found one exceeding 3 lbs. and is complete (no fractures or break offs). :)
