Yet another successful hunting trip! We decided to stop by Kentucky for a day while traveling back to Florida from Michigan. We managed a half day of creek hunting for beautiful Kentucky geodes and agates before the storms moved in and forced us out of the hunting area and on to plan B. We found all kinds of incredible quartz crystal filled geodes, way more agates than we expected and loads of Ordovician aged fossils (about 450 million years old).

You are not a geologist - that's for sure! For all geologists know that the easiest way to split any stone is in the hand! Holding the geode in your left hand - strike a good blow and even the jasper in the ore will split in half! )))

When I was young till I was in my 30s we walked the creeks and ditches in middle Kentucky and collected many geodes and agates. What good memories I have of those times. I am not able to hunt anymore. We visited relatives in that area. We were in an area near Eubank. I am still a rock hound, I just have to limit the weight of what I bring home to what I can Cary in my pockets.

Would u have any location recommendations for eastern KY for geodes or agates?
@annetteh110
@annetteh110 2 жыл бұрын
@@kirawilliams8640 we hunted areas around hwy 75 from around Berea South to highway 81. Our cousins said they could be found around Somerset, Science Hill and Mount Vernon. Other than that I cannot really speak. Check the creeks, rivers and ditches. If you learn what the look like you can cee them from a distance.to me the outside looks like it has had bubbles on surface yet they have a relatively smooth feel.

Happy Birthday Bri, looks like you had an amazing day! Did you know that in the Victorian era in England, the famous female fossil hunters Mary Anning and Elizabeth Philpot discovered belemnite fossils had ink chambers, and were able to revive the ink in the chambers and use it for writing? How incredible is that! Hope this little fact made your eyes goggle like that happy little snails!

I have lived in NKY my whole life and played/explored in so many creeks my entire life. I absolutely love crystals and I had no idea I was probably surrounded and I had no idea! The most I ever find is Indian spear heads and indian arrow heads. Now I will make sure to keep my eyes peeled. I almost bought some geodes from online..... I bet me finding them myself will make them so much better!

I am watching you gather clam shells in Kentucky. I think you may find a lot of them are filled with crystals. I watched a video from The Crystal Collector where they were getting big clams full of crystal. The explanation for how they got that way was that the shellfish we're buried alive in a tsunami. So deep they died but there were ways for the minerals to seep in.
