ABOUT US:
We moved from the city to the country 2 years ago, right before the Covid lockdown. So much has happened in that time. We now have 5 horses (including Johnny, AKA Duke, from Day by Day Vlogs), chickens, baby chicks, guinea fowl, handsome roosters, adorable bunnies, hilarious goats, a livestock guardian puppy and 2 house dogs that are adjusting to country living (one more successfully than the other). We have undertaken many renovations (both inside and outside), love sharing tips/ tricks/ hacks, trying to repurpose items or do things on a budget, and are always looking for the next DIY project. We started taking videos for family and friends to keep them updated on our journey as we navigate trading in city life for life on the farm... and decided others may be interested as well. So here we are on KZfaq, and learning the in's and out's slowly but surely.
We hope to produce video content that is entertaining (who doesn't love seeing horses and cute animals), allows you to follow our horse journey and life on the farm, provides you with some inspiration and ideas of things you can try in your own life, and hopefully gives you some helpful information.
If you or someone you know is interested in Horses, Goats, Bunnies, Chicken & Guinea Fowl, Livestock Guardian Dogs, DIY Projects, Before and After Home/ Garden/ Barn Makeovers, Tips/ Tricks/ Hacks, Country Living or Life on the Farm, PLEASE SUBSCRIBE, LIKE and hit the NOTIFICATION BELL so you never miss new videos being posted.

I'm Barb's daughter, I remember the first time we met Foxy down in Missouri, and when we first brought her home. We called her Big Red. It took her a long time to warm up to us, but she became the sweetest, grumpiest mare. She was so patient with us kids. I rode her every day after school when I was a teenager. I felt more comfortable on her without a saddle, and she always took care of me. I sang to her, and told her about my day, and she just walked on in her steady way. This video brings me so much joy, thank you for loving her right until her final moments. It means so much to me that she was a loving part of your farm family. Thank you ❤️

I am crying my eyes out reading this. This is the best story and I can see her doing just that, because that is how she was with our girls. I love that she was loved so much by you and your family, and am so thankful you shared her with ours❤️. I am so sorry you guys weren’t able to see her again before she passed, but I am glad this video helped you be a part of her last day because you are her family as well… you were her first little girl 🥰. I am glad that you got to see how truly loved she was right to the end. Thank you so much for this comment, I can’t tell you how much it means to me, truly.

EVERY HORSE HAS A STORY AND FOXY'S MUCHED LOVED STORY STARTED IN ONE PLACE WITH ONE FAMILY AND ENDED FAR AWAY WITH ANOTHER FAMILY, FILLING THEIR HEARTS WITH LOVE FOR FOXY. SHARING THIS DAY WITH HER OWNER FROM HER YOUNGER YEARS IS REALLY POIGNANT. SHE LEFT THE WORLD DOING WHAT A HORSE LOVES MOST EATING WITH FAMILY BY HER. Y'ALL WILL SEE HER IN THAT BIG PASTURE ACROSS RAINBOW BRIDGE. Susan

That picture was taken not long after we moved here. It was after a storm, and there was the most incredible double rainbow over our house that I had ever seen. We all went outside and were just in awe and kept saying how we were so happy in this new life on the farm with our animals. It was just a really great family memory and I remember thinking how beautiful Foxy was in that surreal moment. Pictures never truly captured it, but it was one of my favourite memories on the farm. That is how I imagine her now, over the rainbow bridge, running and happy, no pain, eating all the clover she can find, with her boyfriend from years back who passed shortly before her. ❤️

Jenn, that was such a beautiful tribute to Foxy. I know the feeling. As a kid, my mare had to be put down. We buried her in the corner paddock that was her favorite spot under the oak trees. Her foal laid on the grave nickering & I laid beside him crying my heart out that day. He stayed on her grave for weeks... I feel you pain.💔

I am so very sorry for your loss. Saying goodbye to someone we love is one of the hardest things we have to go through. It is okay if you couldn’t bring yourself to be there in the those final moments, and it most definitely doesn’t make you a coward or diminish the love you have for your horse. Give yourself grace and compassion, and please know that whether you were there or not at the very end, your horse would have felt loved by you and at peace because of the love you showed them during your time together. There is no shame in trusting your vet to be there in those very last moments. Sending you love in this difficult time. ❤️😢

That was beautiful. Tomorrow I am having my two old horses I have from birth put to sleep. Brother and sister, 30 and 28. Both have cancer and the quality of life for my Tabitha is no longer good. Shai Guy has cancer and I know he will not be happy without his sister even though he is not as bad as his sister. I love them more than anything. The love of a horse is like no other. I told myself I can’t watch them die. But how can I not hold them and love them in those final moments? I will have their ashes and tail and forelock hair and other keepsakes. I don’t think I will survive. Tabitha is my life. Her mother rejected her and I raised her from bottle to bucket to big girl food. She was my soft place to land when times were bad. Thank you for your loving video.

Thanks. I wasn’t actually planning on doing a video for KZfaq about it, we had just taken videos and photos for our family and our personal memories which is why a lot were vertical. Waking up Saturday without her here … it was a very hard day to get through for our family and there were a lot of tears. I realized I needed to do this video for Foxy, for our family, and so people who knew and loved her could process and heal (because we weren’t her only owners over her lifetime that loved her, and unfortunately, the others weren’t able to come before she was put down). It actually ended up being a bit healing.

Thanks, and I am so sorry you may have to face it soon. It is very difficult. We adopted her as a senior horse who had monthly medical costs and was at the end of her life. We knew it was a matter of time, before we had to make the decision, since the day she came to us. We just wanted to give her a soft place to land in her final days and smother her with all the love she deserved. We worked closely with the vet the whole time, and monitored her quality life. Foxy unfortunately had multiple medical issues she was dealing with and it came to a time when her bad days were outnumbering the ones good ones. We always said her quality of life takes priority over our hearts and she would let us know when it was time. And that is what she did 💔😭. It was gut wrenching to make that decision but we knew it was the right one to make for her. I hope you find peace in knowing when the right time for your horse will be. I found that helped me get through it. And I am so grateful for the viewer that gave us the idea to feed her a big bowl of grain and hay while she took her final breaths. It was so healing to know she was surrounded by the people she loved with a full mouth of grain and hay in her final moments. She was so happy. It was very peaceful. That is what she deserved. Sending you lots of love and keeping you in our thoughts ❤️.

Oh gosh, I am so sorry. It is so difficult, but the best advice I got was to bring a bowl full of grain (or whatever your horse's favorite treat is), and to let them eat it the whole time the sedation is being given. It made her so happy, and it was such a peaceful way to go... munching away on her favorite treat right up until she laid down. She passed away surrounded by the people who loved her, with a mouth full of grain... in a heartbreaking moment, it was the best way I could have asked for. Oh, I’m sorry about making you cry. We cut some hair from her mane and tail to make bracelets. I just haven’t been able to bring myself to make them yet. Yes. She had the biggest heart of gold, but her body just couldn’t keep up with her spirit. We did what we could for her, and listened to the vet and Foxy when they let us know it was time to say goodbye. We took her in knowing we had a limited amount of time with her. She was already retired and had these medical issues when we got her. We just wanted to give her a soft place to land where she would be spoiled with love for the rest of her days, and that’s what we did. It helps make it a little easier knowing how happy and loved she was ❤️😢.

HOW OLD WAS SHE AND WHY DID YOU PUT HER DOWN

She was 24 and we put her down based on the recommendation from our vet who had been following her care since we had her (she had medical issues that were being treated but unfortunately it got to the point that they were not enough, and her quality of life was decreased significantly as a result). The vet said the humane thing to do would be to put her down. As much as we did not want to hear that answer, Foxy’s comfort and quality of life were more important than our broken hearts, so it was the last gift of kindness and love we could give her. 💔😭

@@carriekruse9016 Thanks 😊. Welcome to our little Barn Boots and Country Roots family. She always did seem much younger than she was, but her body just couldn’t keep up with her spirit. She was the sweetest mare ever. We only owned her for a few years, and we took her in knowing she couldn’t be ridden, had medical issues that required daily medicine, and the vet was monitoring for when she needed to be euthanized (once treatment side effects outweighed the benefits, or once her quality of life deteriorated too much). We knew we were on borrowed time, but we just wanted to give her the best life possible for as long as she was able to maintain a good quality of life, and for her to be spoiled with love and fussed over for her final years. And so that’s what we did. People didn’t understand why would take in a horse that couldn’t be ridden, was old and had medical issues because she was just a huge expense, but she gave us so much love and she was worth it. We wish we could have had more time with her but we are grateful for the time we did get. We miss her so much 💔😭.

She was really struggling and it was the humane thing to do. Foxy, unfortunately, had several medical issues that she was dealing with, and she was in her twenties. We exhausted all the options that could give her a good quality of life (they worked for a few years, until her condition got worse), and she was in pain. We made the hard decision based on the vet’s recommendation. 😢💔 She was the best horse. It’s definitely not the same without her here.
