About us:
We're Jack & Megan, and in late 2020 we sold our belongings and packed our lives into our 2005 Toyota Troop Carrier to travel Australia. Our original plan was to complete a full lap of Australia and return home to Perth to resume our 'normal' lives. We decided we wanted to document our lap for the future and began sharing weekly travel vlogs of our life on the road and fell in love vlogging, filmmaking and sharing our lives with you. We completed our first lap and couldn't imagine living any other way so we decided to continue travelling and calling the Troopy home. We have gone on some crazy adventures since then and it is all thanks to you tuning in to join us every week.

Hi Megan, I am lets say a mature age women and its taken me a long time to learn this. You (and Jack) are on your own journey and its a huge trap to look to others to compare yourself against. All you can do is travel your own path with grace and respect for others. How they choose to react is there choice and says nothing about who you are. From my observation you are a warm and caring person so keep just being authentic and true to yourself. Have been enjoying your caravan build and am constantly amazed how you both learn and just have a go! Looking forward to seeing how Myrtle comes together.

As an architect, I would definitely give yourself that extra space for the bathroom. The extra seating space is always nice, but I personally compromise on it to create the amenity you need in the bathroom. Once you start using the caravan daily, you definitely won’t regret the comfort the larger bathroom will provide. There will always be room outside for sitting/eating, but there isn’t always somewhere to use the bathroom! Hope that helps you make the decision.

Megan, you are a wonderful kind caring girl.. don't compare yourself to the others..you are so much better and you and Jack keep it real. As for the bathroom, I started out without one, ended up getting a porta loo for those cold nights where we didn't want to go outside to the caravan park toilets..it worked well. If you can do it so that you have an outside shower, maybe that will work.. it's your caravan. Do what makes you happy. keep smiling xx

Before cutting your couch, use some cardboard to create a template, that will help. If you’re worried about the bathroom wall, cut the wall and just put it in place to see what it will look like. Or put the toilet in, hide it, run the shower outside and use a pop-up shower. Good luck!

Hey guys just remember you said that you started the channel so that your family could follow you AUS trip. You have grown into the creators that you are today. It’s ok if you don’t post every week, you are leaning to build something you have never done and that takes time, which means you will need extra time to both learn and then edit videos. When I built my four wheel drive from the ground up there was frustrations, mistakes, over budget costs… and that was without creating and editing videos. You guys are doing an amazing job and the caravan is coming along beautifully. Just remember the beauty of building something from the ground up is that once you start traveling with it, if you aren’t happy with a feature of the build you can modify and change it. Keep your chins up you are doing awesome. The build is up there with the quality builds that you get from buying a caravan. I look forward to the next video when you guys post it up. Good luck with the remainder of the build, you will be on the road soon enough. 😊

Loved this video, so relatable!! When I did my first van build, I quickly learnt that drawers would be the bane of my existence. Second time I made them, they were better, but still took me hour and hours to get right. I love building vans and fitouts, but I would happily never have to install a drawer again! Hahah. They look great though, keep smashing it!!

While watching this, I kept saying keep the bathroom. It's good that you did the pros and cons exercise to help make the decision to choose open space over the bathroom. We managed many years in tent, campers and first van without bathroom and survived. Now in our very mature years the bathroom is a must! You are far away from that need! Meagan, I know how to beat yourself up comparing yourself to others, like you. I guess the important thing is to keep affirming your own self worth. Stay true to yourself. You and Jack are a wonderful support to each other. Myrtleis looking fantastic. 😊

CUT IT! You will be glad to have a bathroom and you will never have 'space' in a caravan. And you will each have your seating position and not use all of the couch. Love your raw and honest vlogs - "we don't know what we're doing". My wife and I renovated a pop top a few years ago and we went through all the same emotions - although we kept our kitchen and just painted cupboards, no bathroom (too small). Removed the couch and added 2 very comfy boat seats, removed the single beds down each side and built a queen lift up bed. Added 12v, new hitch, lights, audio, window tint.... Don't give up. Don't give up. Don't give up.... Edit: I typed this comment with the video paused. When I restarted the video, guess where it was up to. 😂😂 Stop commenting! We don't need your comments. 😆😆

Well done on making the decision on a bathroom. You can always have a toilet inside, but I agree about the outside shower as there are lots of times when we are travelling that we use the bathroom for washes only because we are conserving water. And as Jack says, it will save money and a huge learning journey, when you already have so many, many on the build. I like having a bathroom in our camper, but I think I would make the same decision as you if I were your age. It’s so lovely to see the progress you’ve made so far.

Hey guys, Far from a failure, A list is a guide not a rulebook. I think your smashing it! Good idea with the bathroom in the end as how good is an outdoor shower! And you can always carry a portaloo or composting loo under the seat as Jack said. And if worse comes to worse out on the road and you really want the bathroom, maybe the wardrobe could be swapped to the other side...? Cupboards and drawers look great! Maybe a magnet on the back of the drawers (onto the front wall) to keep them closed?

You don't spend much total time in the bathroom. If you decide to add one later, you can have an external hot water shower with folding shower tent. Minimal weight and cost, easy to install. I prefer the portable toilet to be outside in a pop up tent anyway. Roll it out when you need it. Leave it unused if you don't need it. 😊

I would suggest the following, an additional little batwing awning in the rear (or opposite side of the door) with a shower tent or (check CampBoss ShowerTent it has a 'roof') so that you are not getting wet while on the toilet. 🤣😂 (assuming you are going to do longer stays, you can get some wet days..) How many people do you plan to have in your van at any one time? If mostly just the two of you, do you really need that long a lounge seat? If it was me, I'd keep the bathroom. This also gives you more privacy to your bedroom. Plus if you plan to sell her in the future, a caravan with a bathroom will be more desirable. But as you've said, you know what you like.

Gday. Fantastic work guys and definitely the best decision to drop that bathroom in the small space you have. Showering outdoors is heaps better than in a cramped van shower. As far as the thunderbox goes well nature's own exhaust fan outside is much better than stinking out the van. Suss out those composting dunnies. They to me and my wife appears better than the chemical ones. Easier to clean I'm told I'm sure there will be someone on here that will either confirm how good the cleaning of them are. Keep up the good work and the FTE was the best decision ever. 👍 Never worry about the could've done better at school stuff mate. I was expelled in year 11 and now I'm a teacher! I feel your pain on the draw builds. Been through 3 draw sets in the back of my cruiser, it doesn't get easier, never slides right and sucks to build 😅

Megan, you need the bathroom but I would get rid of the cupboard. Just my thoughts. You're both doing such a great job. Cheers.

You should add a pullout slider for jars sauces etc next to the fridge

If you’re worried about water leaks etc, at a minimum I’d still put the room in with just a composting toilet and no shower. At least be able to do your business in the privacy of your own van haha. Good work thus far team!

The old seat looks nice but I think you will regret not putting a bathroom. Myrtle is looking good though, not too much to go.

What are you going to do for a table ? Bathroom is extra weight and not really necessary and with all the timber being used, it will affect the overall weights. Which will mean being careful about the new springs , axle and tyres.

I reckon you made the right decision around the bathroom but I also don't like the idea of sleeping next to a closet where I defecate. Besides, you now get really awesome en-suite awnings with roofs and watcher-catching tray floors as well as large pop-up shower tents and I can't imagine it's too difficult to plumb in hot water with an external outlet.

I absolutely agree with your decision. As soon as I saw your layout plan I felt that it may have been a tight squeeze to put the bathroom in. Of course, I also had faith that you'd get it done. I think that your decision is the best way to go. It does look really good like that. As for what you shared Meghan, nobody has a perfect life all the time, no matter what they make it appear on socials. Stumbling sometimes is natural. Feeling drained or overwhelmed is natural. These are the moments when you can take time to rest and reflect.

I think it’s looking very good considering you’re not carpenters and you’ve never done it before I know one thing I couldn’t do it. It’s too stressful. I think another thing that would look nice is if you had your caravan windows tinted for a bit more privacy and keeping the sun out to keep it cooler

I agree, you can have the shower on the outside. Good choice 😁

Remember to get really good locks for your draws and cupboards.. Its not much fun to find after travelling on a rough road that things have-shaken and fallen on the floor ..or draws have come out

For 4yrs I travelled Australia in a 16ft caravan and had a cassette porta-potty that was kept in a small cupboard under the bed..There was a curtain that gave privacy between the bedroom a the living area if someone was on the potty..When the curtain was tucked away it had served it’s purpose..I now have a Toyota hiAce camper van and my cassette porta-potty has a small cupboard of its own so when it’s served it’s purpose it slides back in its cupboard..Maybe you can think about something on those lines.

This was such a fun video guys! Well done on the build, it's looking great! Can totally see why you choose not to build a bathroom. We're 6 months into our lap and haven't needed one (yet) 🤣 BTW we are watching your old WA videos for inspo while we are travelling through - they are super helpful! thanks guys, good luck with finishing the build 👍
