Steve Yzerman and Derek Lalonde spoke on Friday about the conclusion of the NHL season, and what worked and what didn't for during the season. Lalonde specifically sung the praises of Dylan Larkin, who did so much while battling through adversity, while also praising the goaltending's ability to raise the entire team. Yzerman is extremely patient. He wants to build a dynasty, and he will absolutely accomplish that. As fans, the clear downside is "we want playoffs and we want them now". But he is a product of the system he came from, which is to over-ripen those prospects, let them cook in Grand Rapids. I'm gonna be honest, I'd rather have another 20+ year run in the playoffs than to pull a Blue Jackets, make the second season a few times and go back to sucking again. If that means plugging in a couple vets until ... say, Kasper is more than ready? So be it.

I don't think a long term dynasty can be built anymore in today's NHL. Boston has come the closest in terms of consistency but only 1 cup in the last 15 years. Chicago had a dynasty for about 8 or 9 years. I can see 5-8 years but don't think we'll ever see the kine of dynasty wings had from the late 90s to early 2010s again before the salary cap and as the league has expanded more and league is much more fluid. I'm still optimistic for the wings as long as they resign Kane and continue to add more big names. They need another star a Stamkos, Reinhart, Guentzel. Team doesn't have enough star power. Young guys are still a question besides Seider and Raymond. Think Edvinsson will pan out too.

@@casewojo6186I think you can say some signings are bad but not terrible. None of them are long enough to be terrible contracts. He has shown that he is excellent at drafting! No pass needed. Just patience.

@@elifaulds3168 Holl was basically lighting 3.4M of cap space for 3 years on fire. You can call that terrible even if it’s for 3 years. Also have a 3rd line checking forward signed for 5.625M for 3 more years when we have UFA’s, Raymond and Seider to re-sign to be able to return our squad, never mind improve. Can’t just waste cap space and say oh well at least it’s not an 8 year deal.

In fairness to Yzerman, it took him 10 yrs a a player to win his first cup. And with insane teams he was on for so long, I have faith in him in taking time to build this. On the other hand, his tenure as GM in Tampa has me baffled comparde to what is going on with the wings. Their record has improved every year since he got home but next April should be a defining moment.

He inherited Stamkos and Hedman already when he went to Tampa. He did a great job finding fellow stars in later rounds like Kucherov and Point, but he didn’t have that luxury here of those top picks already acquired. He basically had to start with less than nothing here with how bad our cap was when he arrived lol

Even with the Red Wings cooked, I love your guys streams. Yall are both so committed to bringing quality info, appreciate your guys content. Keep up the streams please Hurts to say, but Im really starting to think Kane should leave Detroit at this point. I cannot wait for next year, but hear me out In my opinion Alex seemingly did better at the start of the season before Kane came in, This was probably because he was consistently trying to set up Kane.... I mean He would never say that because Kane is his buddy obviously. Lets not forget he got dropped to second line with less ice time to support kane as well. I feel like Alex has been sacrificing scoring opportunities to make plays to Kane, and it was not as successful compared to prior years with Kane. The two were well established on the same line, however The rest of the pieces are not the same, which still matter in the chemistry of any team. Both still worked really well together, regardless of the injury kane really only has a year or two left before he retires, or is hurt even worse. -Alex sounds like he is excited to play for Red wings again which is terrific, however Kane seems to be acting like it was really the last time. -if the above is true then kane isnt worried about playing with Debrincat again, which tells me the chemistry is not nearly as there. -Alex has a potential to become the top player if he is thinking for himself, and scoring for himself and working with Larkin specifically. -Alex has had inconsistency however it definitely seemed Larkin related. -Alex had much less TOI when he got put on second line compared to most years. He had a higher scoring and point percentage in less time on ice overall, which is less than most of his seasons with the NHL, even Ottawa had his TOI higher. He is improving regardless as you can see it in his stats, the numbers spell out improvements. Now, This is totally a theory but I think Alex Debrincat has a lot more potential to be had, and we could be seeing him break out next year or maybe the year after, possibly competing with top NHL talent. That is if kane decides to step away from detroit as imo its holding Debrincat back. Before I get hate, remember my opinion does not matter and this is just to start conversation lmao.

When you talk about expectations changing I think that only works when you are exceeding expectations. If Lalonde and the team had done worse than expectations, nobody would have defended Lalonde and "changed expectations" to support him in a downturn. So, it's a little bit unfair to judge more harshly when doing better but not give him a break if he does worse. It's like he can't catch a break either way. The truth is we exceeded expectations even while missing the playoffs and we have a lot to look forward to next season.

Let's go Griff's, hope for a cup it helped develop guys like Nyquist Tatar and bertuzzi even though we lost them thanks to the cap, but all it can do is help their prospects gain confidence in crucial situations, keep going boys. Wish Danielson was ready to be up with the Griff's.

The Cap is Projected to be $87.7M next year. Giving the Redwings about $29M to spend. People not signed next year from the current team: Perron, Kane, Sprong, Fischer, Raymond, Veleno, Ghost, Seider, Reimer. Who do you bring back? and for how much?

@@wyattbarnes9641 100% priority is Raymond and Seider. I looked up projected salaries for both and they have them at 7mil min each... that only leaves 15mil unless we can sell off Holl or Maata's contracts Fun note I thought it was interesting that Perron had more points this year than Bertuzzi.

This has been pissing me off all year.... Detroit's offense gets no criticism on defensive play.... It's still 5 players defending and not just 2... when do people learn that ? Take Florida for example... there 5 players defend the goal every time & not just two... and curious how good a team can be then...

They need Kane back and need to add another star- Reinhart, Stamkos, Guentzel. Someone. If they do both of those I'll be very optimistic if not I won't be. I think it gets done. This team doesn't have enough right now. Raymond , Larkin and Seider is not enough. We need to become a contender. Kane could be a 90 pt guy next year so could Raymond.

I’m losing a bit of faith in Yzerman. He doesn’t get a pass from me because of him being our captain during the non cap era years. He had some terrible signing this year and Copps contract is atrocious. Tampa was decent to good after year 6 on the rebuild, we are nowhere close. I think we are 4-5 years out from making playoffs consistently, not even close imo.

@@jackconrad2667 those are entrenched. But need a hard charger tough as nails D guy that can lay the pipe. Our toughness gets called into question by the other teams vastly too much.

Toughness is overrated, sure having a guy to drop the gloves that isn't a smallish player is necessary, but discipline is more of a key, controlling the gaps, having more speed in the blue line, but what no one addresses is how terrible 80% of our forwards are et getting the third man in, a defender can only cover one guy, you have two of them in the ice. Sprong and fabbri suck at this, cat for most of the season, veleno and even Raymond have stunk getting back for part of the season and that is what has killed them. Most of all Sprong, I don't care if he scores 20 a year, he sucks at forechecking and backchecking, basically stops skating, he needs to go. You fix that then you probably take off 15-25 goals in a season and get to 100 points and a playoff seed. I won't deny Petry, Hull, Maata, and ghost are terrible at D, make too many mistakes, cover the wrong guy, but if the forwards did better at covering the third man we wouldn't be as hard on how bad their d is.

@@bradmaguire9611 none of those forwards are much in the way of two way game. Raymond has improved. It was the reason I said either berggren or sprong will return. Since neither are good at def. A two way center that can win faceoffs would be great. But not easy to find

@@jackconrad2667 yeah I agree, I think they'll get somebody with speed and a little beef for their forward core, it's gonna be tough to find a legit 2c who doesn't break their cap, hoping Danielson moves ahead of schedule a little as he's a good two way center, seems defensive minded and was great on head to heads with bedard. Their d core is a mess, but I'm sure they'll pick up somebody who can out perform petry until they get more prospects ready to play. Can't wait to see pellika, if you watch his highlights he's not only offensively gifted but seems to love to throw hits.

Petry will be back. I hate to say it. But he has a no move clause. We are stuck with him. Trust the yzerplan!! Year 6 next year and have a guy like petry! Only thing they could do is buyout his contract and I don't think Yzerman will. I think we have 28 million in cap space but by the time they sign raymond and seider to long term deals, that money will be gone. Maybe 1 or 2 million left. So we must endure jeff petry.

This guy's is responsible for 90% of the defensive breakdowns and so many turnovers. Cannot stand him. Still do not understand why yzerman thought him and holl were good choice signings. Just think they actually scouted him and said to themselves yeah we have to go out and get Jeff petry. Montreal and Pittsburgh fans mocked us and laughed at us for signing him. They were so happy to be rid of him. They hated him more then us wings fans do. So thanks Stevie y! And don't forget were paying copp 5 million! That's another big doozy! Trust the yzerplan! Still scratching my head over copp petry holl signing🤔 toronto also mocked and laughed there asses off when we signed holl.

Kane is going to have a full off-season of training pain free for the first time in a few years. He is going to be a MONSTER next year, 90 ++ wouldn't be a surprise. Sign him for 3 years.

Kane works with a center who plays the full sheet, unfortunately you can't do that with Larkin because he is their best driver if the puck down the ice. I liked seeing compher with Kane, but yes Kane is and always has been a liability defensively, that's what you sacrifice for his dangles. There's only one datsyuk, one federov, and one zetterbeg, their one of a kind type players who can score a point a game, create, and dictate the pace of play at the same time. You're not getting one of those guys with this roster.

@@bradmaguire9611 I can handle the odd man rushes and the fact that the forwards are slow to get back. It’s the bad turnovers in their own zone that happen far too often that needs to stop. Well as much as possible. Petry loves those.
