The walls came out beautiful. May I suggest going with a lighter floor. If you go with dark tile it will show all the dirt, dust, animal hair, and all the mud tracked in during the rainy season. I have dark floors and I hate them. I have to sweep and mop continually. Maybe go with something like Jordan used in his new bathroom area. I think it is a light gray peel and stick type wood. It looks beautiful and the perfect color. Also, may I say that you and Freddie are so cute together. You absolutely compliment each other and have a beautiful relationship. I am going to try to make a lasagna and hope it comes out as yummy as Freddie's. I LOVE your videos.

Have to agree with the dark floors picking up every piece of dirt, and making the room feel much smaller. It will make the space feel a lot more closed in. If you really have your heart set on dark flooring, maybe pick one area so it’s not the entire space.

Save yourself the heartache of growing to hate your floor by choosing a lighter color! My daughter insisted on the dark floor thinking it would be easy to keep clean. I tried to get her to change her mind but she didn't. She loved her floor for about a week and she now hates them so much she has it mostly covered by rugs. Every speck of dirt, dust, hair, cat hair, drip of something in the kitchen etc shows up as if painted white. My floor is the color of old weathered wood at the beach. That light gray with a hint of weathered wood mixed in. It matches all the wood in the home as well as the painted walls because it is a neutral color. Dirt and dust are hidden and easy to maintain. We have pets and they bring in dirt and hair and I am still happy with my choice of color. Shiny dark anything like furniture or flooring are very very hard to keep clean looking!

We owned a log home at one time and the walls being all wood inside caused our home to be so dark. Light floors to help bounce the light would help with that. Walls look gorgeous.

I hope you are not really looking at those black tiles. They will show every speck of dust or pet hair and you will want to clean them constantly. Also, dark floors will absorb all the heat coming in the house. The grey wood looking tiles are awesome and will not show dust and pet hair nearly as quickly. I cannot wait to see what you choose! You guys are doing a great job considering most things happening are your first time doing them. Freddies lasagna looked great. I use those oven ready noodles every time and they are perfect. Mushy noodles are not good, especially in vegetarian lasagna. I just made a lasagna this week with ground pork and turkey. It is a family favorite. I am so happy to see your relationship blossoming. I know I saw a comment that someone posted about your electrical wiring about two episodes back that advised you to put sleeve over wire where it snakes through your metal framing behind walls. Jordan did it when he was doing the bathroom wiring. It will prevent wire from getting cut on metal edges. also have you planned ahead and considered guest room for your family to visit you? That space you were thinking to use for laundry room would make for cool library/office/guest bedroom. Then under stairs you could put stackable washer/dryer. Plus I know you are both young, but someday your family may expand and having a room already ready to use will be so much easier on you. Just food for thought. Wish you two all the best. Keep dreaming and creating. I love watching.

Did you not watch until the end? They don't need a whole guest bedroom...they have the idea for guests to stay in the living room space on the couch. When I build my A frame on the side of a mountain in Panama, the last thing I would be putting in it is a room specifically dedicated for guests...if my couch is not good enough to sleep on there's always the shed in the woods...😂

Fun idea... You guys should make a third level in your home and make it into one of those floor net hammocks with a ladder or small spiral staircase that goes up to it. It's relatively easy, super fun and gives you an extra cool spot to relax and hangout, and because it's just netting, it doesn't obstruct the view or light. So you can still see the ceiling from below and have that feeling of height in the room. Just an idea!😊

PLEASEEEEEE DO NOT BUY DARK floor tiles ( I know its your home and your choice, but honestly ive regretted my dark floor since the day after it was put down, it shows up every crumb, mark, stain, hair etc more than lighter tiles do, plus lighter floors will make your home look much bigger, just warning you😉 Also a little advice, leave flooring until the last, as any work being done, which you still have a lot to do, tools, machines, etc may ruin your flooring😐 Love your sofa choice💓 xx

First things first...Freddie, you are getting more beautiful by the day. The wall looks so warm and inviting. If I can make one suggestion, don't hammer on the finished wood when seating the tongue and groove together. I would take a small scrap of tongue and groove wood and place it on the finished wood and hammer on it to protect the finished wood. I learned that from my father who was a carpenter.

Go with lighter floors, or you will regret them. Go for pale grey instead of dark grey. I have very pale grey and I love them. They don’t have to be swept and mopped every day. Just like once a week, but more for you because you don’t have stairs coming in & you have mud maybe, but on a dark floor it will really, really show. You need a mat for right where you come in, to wipe your feet on. Your couch looks perfect! The walls are gorgeous, though the wall on the left looks higher than the one with the window. It looks like it needs another board or two? I’m so glad the foam came off!! So much love to you two!! From Oregon State, USA ♥️ Jessica 🇺🇸♥️🇵🇦

Question: have you realized you need to buy & store certain products for the next breakdown in the local society? Have you bought extra propane, extra gasoline, toilet paper, canned fruit, dog food, etc., etc. I don't think you need to become crazy preppers, but the closing of the roads and stores twice already, would seem to indicate some provisioning would be prudent. The cost of buying or building the storage capacity seems worthwhile.
@nandaabreu5369

I totally agree. I used to make fun of my husband , because for years, he always bought (and still buys) things that are on special. Well, when Covid hit, WE NEVER RAN OUT OF ANYTHING . From toilet paper, to cleaning supplies and everything else in between. We were fully stocked.I live in Canada, and during those sad and awful Covid times, it was "strange" to go to a supermarket (Walmart included) and see many empty shelves. Take the previous subscriber's advice and stock up on canned food, toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies, propane and gas . A little bit at a time every month doesn't break the bank and can go a long way.

Closing of the roads is a normal occurrence in central and south America. There's usually quite a bit of notice when the roads will be closed. Also, the roads do not close here in Boquete, they close in other places and so the road blocks only block goods that imported into Boquete. Boquete is the bread basket of the country of Panama and is pretty self sufficient. By the way, gasoline does not store very long... diesel on the other hand is pretty stable.
@ernie7065
@ernie7065 5 ай бұрын
@davidcbrown4376 Right re Gasoline... but use the stored gas every 6 months and replenish it. The last time he paid dearly for gasoline. It just makes sense to store certain items. Plan to use if needed... may save a trip into town too. These are not poor indigenous people. These are decently well off people. They can also share with friends.

LOL...Why store long-term when you can simply buy extra to store shorter when it is obvious that there may be a shortage? I'm not indigenous and I, like everyone else here that isn't indigenous, don't store gasoline long-term.@@ernie7065

Rodrego, usually the instructions on the can will tell you how much the foam will expand. Only fill between 1/2 to 2/3 of cavity and the foam will expand the remainder. Also putting to much foam in a cavity can push out the boards because of the pressure when it has no where to expand. Remember you might need a vapour barrier between your insulation and inside wall. Good luck guys.

Just a thought but going forward could you not just use 6x4 wooden sheeting and cut a number of small grooves a couple of mm deep at the same distance apart as the tongue and grooving, thereby giving the effect of tongue and groove, but a lot quicker and possibly at less cost ?

Agree! Especially the ceiling; I'm doing the same with a stairwell landing to avoid squeaky boards and dust/dirt collecting underneath. If they're worried about matching what's already up, continue doing the tongue/groove but definitely a time-saving, cost effective solution for that massive, steep ceiling.

What fun fixing up and planning for a new build! Just a thought on the tiles, you might not want to get a very slick, shiny tile for they can be too dangerous if water is spilled on them, or if your shoes are wet coming in. Find tile with a rougher matte finish. You also might consider getting a multi-colored tile to hide the dust and dirt that you and the kitty kat will no doubt track in, because if it's just one color--esp. black, it'll show EVERYTHING and in time drive you absolutely MAD! I speak from experience. Getting a dark grout will also be better for that same reason. Love watching you!

May I suggest letting the wood be an accent wall and the rest surrounding walls be concrete board which will separate the living room from rest. You could make a storage cabinet system along the bottom of walls about 2 1/2 feet tall. And a flat top with cushions for extra seating along wall. That bottom space would have been wasted space.

all these comments about dark floors! i think they will look amazing, and tie in all of the black accents and compliment all of the light wood tones for a beautiful modern look. all you have to do is make an area just inside the door with a small box (storage?) with a cushion on top to sit on, a small rubber mat or small bin where you will leave your dirty outdoor shoes, and a small piece of rug or bath mat (extra-thick towel) or maybe a grass reed mat/"rug" where you will leave your clean "indoor shoes" or "slippers" that you will change into to wear around the house. this is how most homes in japan are set up, no one wears their outdoor shoes inside ! this also makes your home feel more like a temple ! thank you for making "Cooking with Freddie" ! i will now be looking forward to "Cooking with Rodrigo" ! i bet it will be fun, and also funny ! 😹 thanks 💛 see you next time

A close approximation of C* to F* is 2 x C* + 32 = F*. So if it’s 35 C*, the 2x35+32=92 F*. That is very warm! Thanks for another entertaining episode and Freddie continues to be fantastic.

35 x 2 = 70 + 32 = 102! I think the maths you wanted was to multiply by 1.8?

No, heat is not an issue. It doesn't get above 72-73 where he is building. I live a little lower in Bajo Boquete and it rarely gets above 76° down here.

Love your progress! One thing to consider is dark floors will absorb all of the beautiful natural light that you get with all your glass windows. The rooms in your home will look really dark and dreary. Lighter color floors will reflect the natural light and your rooms will look bright and airy.

Rodrigo is so funny. I love his straw hat. Both of you compliment each other so well. Freddie has really learned a lot. I like how she just jumps in there and gives it her best shot. Glad you were able to get the insulation problem solved without having to remove the wood. Wishing you two the best of success

You two are doing a fantastic job. Honestly if you don't make mistakes you won't learn. So enjoy the mistakes because you are learning and you won't make it again. ❤ You two are very blessed. So when are you going to bring Freddie to meet your family. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.

🦋 I thought you said at the beginning that you were not going to buy that you were just going to look anyway. Maybe I missed something. Everything looks so beautiful in the living room. Space. Well done you both put a lot of hard work into it and it shows.

Just a tip for you, if you have an iPhone you can ask Siri to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit. Just say “What is 30 degrees Celsius in Fahrenheit?” Also, to get an average in your head without asking Siri, you can double Celsius and add 30 degrees to get an average in Fahrenheit. Example: 2x30C=60C/ 60C+30=90°F average Actual 30°C is 86°F Hope that makes sense.

The small insulating foam cans sold in stores are typically meant for small-scale DIY projects and *offer limited coverage and insulation.* Professional spray foam application involves specialized equipment and trained technicians who can apply high-quality foam evenly across larger areas, providing better insulation, sound proofing, and sealing properties and come with warranties. Just a FYI…I know you were just fixing up a goof. Also, don’t cook and use products nearby that emit gas such as foam while curing…yikes! Read products warnings and protect your sweet girlfriend too. 💙

Professional spray foam can be chemically dangerous. Check the contents on Google for safety. I would NEVER use it. Often carcinogenic...😮

Think about the floor tile colour. The more plain the colour, the more dirt is visible. So the grey tile with the white veins, was not a bad choice. Tiles are cold on the feet though. You don't want a wooden floor? In the kitchen tiles make sense because of the cleaning... You have such a big house. And these rooms are all so tiny... Small kitchen, small dining room, small seating area. And you have lots of space for multiple bedrooms... Why not choose a nice couch and guests can stay in a bedroom? Just thinking out loud while watching! Hope your new week is awesome again! Have fun🎉

Tile floors in hot countries, usually. So much moisture in the air, not sure wood floors would be a good idea

Hi guys, go with a light floor. Dark floors show EVERYTHING! Marks, hair, pawprints. Something light and airy...you live in the tropics after all. Love the sofa bed option. Love the "Ready with Freddie" idea. We love Gardein products for our vegetarian dishes. Great product! Hugs to you both, and to Roger...the hammock may be his next "not so secret" spot. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦🫶

Best way to cook noodles... Boil the water, turn off stove, put the noodles in and cover the pot, let it sit until the noodles are perfectly al dente. Never mushy...❤
