3 жыл бұрынi, like pretty much every 20-something on twitter, was positively livid after seeing the new trailer for the winx club reboot, fate: the winx club saga. it captured none of the magic of the original winx club series and seemed like a copy-paste of every other gritty teen drama from the last 5 years. WHERE IS THE ORIGINALITY!? it's so sad to see the shows i grew up watching get destroyed by men who couldn't care less about staying faithful to the source material.

What sucks the most isn’t even necessarily making it darker, as someone here said scream queens was dark but also campy and girly. My main problem is erasing fashion, bright colours, and anything to do with ‘girly’ as if it’s a bad thing, cause as usual society hates teen girls interests and instead needs to make it more mature as if it wasn’t already

I personally don’t care if the story line is more dark, but I do agree that the lack of diversity and horrible fashion sense is really getting to me. And it really does feel like directors or producers are recreating the same show over and over again in a diff font.

Ya'll remember Enchantix? The most ICONIC transformation that not only had the best outfits but also showed how much each girl was willing to sacrifice to protect their homes and the people they loved? Enchantix probably had the best story line since they earned their transformations 1 by 1 which was amazing character development for each character. Unlike later seasons where they just GET the transformation. I mean I guess you could count sirenix but eh

remember that even though it is a shiny and charming children's show, Winx has already touched on very heavy themes: - Bloom thinking that her parents died, - Mista transformed into a pumpkin without being able to leave that form until Flora resolved, - Aisha being blinded by Valtor's magic, - Stella being transformed into a monster and being humiliated by her own father, - a dark Halloween special from season 2, - Tecna presumed dead in season 3, - Nabu being killed and Aisha wanting revenge, - And Riven being psychologically tortured by the Trix after being betrayed

@@KIDOSYNDROME Mista (a witch) tried help the Winx, because she hates the Trix, Icy furious transforms Mista in a Pumpkin because of the pumpkin's draw in Mista's skirt. Half of season Mista stay as a pumpkin, she only can moves her leafs until Flora return her into original form.

Don’t forget some other smaller side stuff as well like Musa losing her mom early on and Stella’s parents divorcing! To a kid in those situations being able to see characters in a show theyre watching go through the same thing can really help them

It’s lazy honestly. If they wanted to be dark. Pan’s labyrinth is a dark fantasy and had fairies in it in that looked cute yet creepy and had wings. They could of done the wings like that movie. You're exactly right about this. People who liked Riverdale, were NOT Archie comic fans.. it didn't bring the source material fans and the show fans together. Rather it alienated the fans of the source material. I feel the same will happen with this show. The fans of the original version, the cartoon, won't be the ones who like and watch the show. It'll be a completely new cast of fans who will be surprised when the find the original is nothing like their show.

When I come back from school or from work, I’m so tired of life and dealing with my problems that the only thing I want to see is something bright and funny. The original Winx were for kids, obviously, but they still make me feel like there’s something good in this world. I do not want to watch this dark modern drama - I want fun and magic!

Yes, not only the Winx club girls were not only diverse in culture wise, but also in colors of their own clothing fashions with their own flares and personalities. With this live action cast, I have to agree it seems out dated and somewhat dull. I mean I get they want to attract older mature audiences, ones that did watch the show perhaps, but they do so by at least sticking with some of the original stuff. Not asking for exposed midsection and high heel shoes all the time, but stick to what makes the Winx club girls their own person, and make it with a bit more flare and modern.

It just looks so depressing. There’s only one POC, Terra looks depressing as hell, and they took out the other two POC characters and replaced them with another two white girls. Tecna and Flora’s GONE. The clothing looks like it’s mock-2000s and 80s styles. Even if where they are is supposed to be early autumn, it still looks stupid. It looks more like a lame, indie witch movie made by a high school club group.

basically every american show being produced now with a handful of exceptions like lucifer.. it's all just a carbon cut copy of it'self to me now.. i did watch an interesting show on netflix earlier this day (binged the entirety in a day because it was interesting enough to keep me on the edge of my seat) it's a belgian series named into the night and i loved that.. but mainly because unlike most american shows nowdays the characters didn't feel stale or like stereotypes. they felt like real people trying to survive a horrible situation..

I'm tired of show reboots that erase perviously existing diversity, whether it be ethnicity, culture, style or personality. Like, shows in the 90s/00s had often two people or more of color and some girl that's more boyish or has short hair and some that's more into fashion. They usually did not include heavier characters or obese ones, I admit, but otherwise you got a lot usually

Honestly!!!! Like most of those shows before were already diverse without actually needing or trying hard to be, they just were. These are the characters. This is what you get. Period. There wasn't like oh I'm gonna have this specific character so that there's inclusion. It was just a given that a certain character was the way they were because that's who they are and that's it. Do ya'll remember the cartoon called 6teen? It was all inclusive, there was an asian punk chic, a red head tomboy, a black jew, a latino, a super girly white girl, skater dude, like literally it can't get more diverse than that and yet, the diversity wasn't their focus. They weren't constantly making it obvious like HEY, WE HAVE A LATINO GUY! The story was fun and about their lives and working at a mall, not ever mentioning race or ethnicities even though they were super diverse. I wish shows now a days were like that where the fact that they have diversity is not shoved down our throats, but just effortlessly being diverse.

This reboot seems like it's made by people who have never watched the original Winx Club show. They should've done what was done for the Bratz live action movie, because in that film the four characters were kept consistent with what we knew about them, but still had changes made to them. But these changes weren't bad changes and actually helped the characters have more development from their cartoon and doll counterparts, which is what should've been done with this Winx Club reboot.

I hate this edgy, dark style choice because in the OG cartoon there was a group of girls which had that edgy style - witches. Nevermind their powers, style was another clear difference between them. Witches were edgy and dark and fairies were sweet and bright. Erasing that erases a part of storytelling.

TheRapper10000 Actually there are some hints that musa is Asian. Her design in my opinion hints at her being Asian since her eyes are narrower than most of the Winx girls excluding flora. It could be a character design choice but in cartoons Asian characters are sometimes depicted as having narrower or smaller eyes. Also her hair style also hints at her being Asian since Asian characters are often given bangs. Some more hints are that some of her outfits are Asian inspired and her home planet melody has Asian inspired buildings and the king of melody wears Asian inspired clothing. So with these hints it’s safe to say that she is supposed to be Asian coded in the show. While I agree that the diversity came from the storytelling rather than race it was nice having a diverse cast in terms of race since they could’ve easily made it an all white team with a token person of color character like in the like action remake.

The way the original did that with Musa was just "this is how she is, this is where she's from, there's signs that this is coded to be asian and children who are looking for something to relate to can see it but we're not going to shout about it." Which is better in my opinion..

Exactly. I liked the original since the fairies were kinda girly girls with cute fashion but they were powerful! They didn't shy away from being a girl. I loved it. But this... is so sad to look at. I genuinely had some trouble figuring out who was who

The first thing my 18 year old sister said was “where are the bright, skimpy outfits?” Making this show dark takes away from a show people grew up w and loved. It seems so weird seeing it like this. I think Stella’s look pissed me off the most from the little bit I saw earlier.

@@cherusiderea1330 so true. It doesn’t look interesting at all, it just blends in with the other thousand of Netflix films in my mind with their basic characterisations. I don’t even care too much about skimpy outfits, more so more eye catching outfits, more glitter, wings or somethings to make there’s ordinary looking girls seem more interesting. They’re just relying on the fact they have powers to try and grab our attention which I feel is lazy.

I get making the outfits more modest if they're supposed to be teenagers because as fashionable as the cartoon was, you don't really want to see a real life teenager dress how they did in Winx lol. But besides that, you can dress modestly and be trendy at the same time. The outfits are so bland and cheap looking in the live action, it doesn't capture any of their personalities....

I loved Tecna, but my favorites were Flora and Musa and apparently Flora has been replaced and Musa isn't Musa anymore either, just what were they thinking? It's an insult... Also The school was supposed to be this bright magical place, a world to long for even with the dark things hiding in the shadows... I wouldn't long for this dark edgy dead looking place ;-;

@@Islie_ white and Latina aren't mutually exclusive though...one is race and the other is ethnicity. A Latina can be any race as long as she's from latin america- that's all it means. Usually when people confuse latino/Hispanic, they're referring to mestizo people which she does look like and, regardless of whether Europeans are familiar with that, they aren't just white.

About the "nobody looks like that" quote in the article, if we talk about body: yes. But the outfits? Not true at all. I'm 19 yo and this is actually the moment when I started putting as many colours in my wardrobe as I could. Be it lemon-print dress or overalls with bright pink t-shirt and d.va kneesocks. Soooo I completely don't understand the fashion choices, as you said: the girls don't look like teenagers at all. If they wanted to adapt this 2000s style to modern times they could've just made winx into e-girls

@@dana2271 If Rainbow decides to put the original show back on Netflix my advice would be to actually put all of the seasons on there. I don't know if this was the case in other regions,but in my experience, back when WC was on Netflix,they only had the first 2 seasons( using the Cinelume dub for English). They didn't have Season 3 or 4,or any of the movies. And as much I don't care for the post Season 4 seasons,it's weird they didn't have any of those either. What's the point of potentially new fans wanting to get into Winx Club if they can't even easily watch all of the material in one place? Netflix and other streaming platforms like it are steadily becoming the main way people watch new content. Doesn't Rainbow want to market their series to non Italian-speaking markets again? Which was the whole point of the Nickelodeon deal despite how much of mess that wound up being for them. So why waste the opportunity Netflix would've given them for reach?

I don't get the writer or director who stated they wanted to do something different by making this into a dark story. Sabrina netflix, charmed reboot, motherland fort salem, Shadowhunters, buffy the vampire slayer etc. are all pretty dark stories we haven't really had any lighthearted supernatural show since the 90's with sabrina the teenage witch and the buffy movie.

It's an adaptation ofthe chilling adventures of Sabrina Archie comic written by Roberto Aguirre Sakasa. All the funny enough when comparing the show to the comic the irony is that the show has I'm more light-hearted tone than the comic which is much darker

I also watched the movie and got distracted it was so boring especially half way through and they said it was more like the book. The acting is kind of bad in the first shadowhunters show but it gets better during the second season. One thing i would change though is the actress for Clary not sure if the actress is not very good or it was just the show.

The diversity was also what I loved the most about Winx; even the diverse fashion styles between the characters which showcased their personalities and powers. I don’t think I’ll be tuning in to watch the reboot but I’ll certainly watch your video analysis if you make one!

let’s be real, people don’t watch the winx club for the story line, but for the amazing 2000s looks and the ethereal, hyper feminine fairies. netflix missed the mark by focusing more on diversity in appearance and having more relatable looking girls, than the diverse ethnicities and races of the og fairies, which i think is something that would be more beneficial to young girly girls (and boys) today, given that there are not many poc icons in early 2000s chick flicks also, 2000s fashion is making a HUGE comeback right now, so they easily could have kept the same vibe in the og series and it would still look relevant

I honestly loved the fact that all of Layla's love partners were poc. I watched Winx and when I saw the specialists I thought "So no poc boys? Sad." Then they added Naboo, Roy and Nex. I was really happy about that. Modern TV shows and kid series really need to step up the diversity.
