3:32. He is American, and he basically is a real life Simpsons character. He's Rich Hall, a comedian who generally works more in the UK than in his home country but he's pretty famous in both places And when he was younger, he was friends with some of the original collaborators on the Simpsons show back in the 80s, and when it came time to create the Simpsons characters, they modelled Moe Syzlak on him, both on his looks and gravelly voice. Moe even had black hair originally aswell one of the only characters in the show to be entirely modelled on one real life person.

In the UK for broadcast TV we have the “Watershed”. Certain programmes cannot be shown before the 9:00 p.m. watershed time. 8 out of 10 cats is one of them, the original Countdown is a stalwart of the afternoon TV schedules on UK’s Channel 4. when I was a child we only had one TV channel, the BBC (known as the Beeb or affectionately Auntie). I can remember when our TV had to be taken away for a switch to be installed that allowed the TV to be tuned to either BBC or the new ITV. BBC was government funded, so just TV shows, ITV was funded by advertising. In the late 60’s the BBC started a new channel, called BBC2. This was more “high brow” and heralded the start of Colour TV. So we now had 3 channels. Along came a fourth channel, so it was called Channel 4. this was in 1982 and again funded by commercials/advertising. This new channel allowed for the inception of S4C, a Welsh language version of Channel 4. In 1997 another channel and called it expectedly Channel 5, again another funded by commercials. This millennium we changed over to Digital Broadcasting and the previous system was scrapped. We had to either get a set-top adapter for a few pounds, or get a new TV. These were all terrestrial TV and we also have satellite broadcasting. We also used to have Cable TV many years ago in the poor reception areas like the mining valleys, more wooden poles and loads of cables.
@coast2coast00
@coast2coast00 2 жыл бұрын
The US and Canada have a watershed of 10pm as well, but in the states it isn't a widely known thing, probably because the networks are beholden to the advertisers and rarely run any programing that would be controversial to them. Another problem is the many time zones, it would be possible to broadcast something to NY, that would also be simulcast across 3 time zones, meaning they could get a fine even though the target market is hours after the watershed.

In terms of joking about the Welsh having an affinity for shagging sheep. It’s origins came from the fact a few hundred years ago it was a capital crime to be caught sheep rustling in wales and if caught you would be executed. So the rustlers who were caught in the fields at night trying to steal the sheep had to come up with another reason to be in the field. And being caught having “sex” with the sheep didn’t end in a death sentence so everyone who was caught used it as an excuse. Which is why in wales and Ireland they have the stereotype of shagging sheep. In England and I think Scotland it wasn’t a capital crime to steal sheep so those caught stealing the sheep didn’t need to come up with an excuse to escape execution.

That bunji jumping scetch got me howling. You guys are so right, because I fell for something like that at work when I first started. Nobody told me that the electricity pilons next to our facility are fake. They aren't concerned to the power grid and are used for training. Well... Imagine my surprise when I saw a man HANGED from the tower by their neck!!! Turns out they regularly leave the rescue dummy up there while they go on break. I am not kidding when I say my soul left my body through my arsehole 😂😂😂 It looked like a real person. I'm sure that job is why I have bad anxiety, as it was also two buildings over from the nuclear research and development factory... and those test alarms scared the shit out of me as well 😂,

In fact, on Boxing Day (Dec. 26), there will be a BFQ of 2021. All these episodes are on KZfaq. You should react to them, bet you'd enjoy them. Comedy in the UK has no boundaries and that's why we produce great comedians. Americans and others have this idea that the British are from the early 20th century, we're all incredibly polite, we're very stuffy and straight laced and are overly serious. WRONG!! We are very self deprecating and are savage with our friends. No insult is taken seriously unless given by either a stranger or someone you don't know too well. There's no such thing as too far for British comedians and it's up to the individual watching to gauge their own limit. That said I'm assuming that ur hubby was glad u were on hand to interpret some of the jokes.😂 Loved the reactions, especially from mud westerners as I know u guys are a lot more conservative than ur East of West coast countrymen. That was fun to watch guys.👍❤

You need to watch a full episode to appreciate the comedy. There was originally 2 series, '8 out of 10 cats' and 'countdown' - 8 out of 10 cats is a comedy quiz show, Countdown is a nerdy afternoon math and word quiz show, the producers decided to make a funny version of countdown, hence '8 out of 10 cats does countdown'

My late wife and I enjoyed humour. One quip Louise had was that one reason she married me was that she knew I must have a great sense of humour. When I asked her how she knew this, her reply was, "Well, I knew because, after all, you do have to look at yourself in the bathroom mirror every morning." One I have used with my kids and am now doing so with my grandsons, I utilise after sitting with them while they are doing their prep/homework. "Bastien (or Archer, or Giichi, etc), you know you're not as dumb as you look", while looking over his work. "Thanks gramps (or mzee)". "Yes, but then you couldn't possibly be"!!

Yes. Stealing sheep was a hanging offence, but bestiality was a fine. Of course, they could pay the fine from the sale of the sheep from the time before, when they didn't get caught. :) At that point though, it might be best to change career. If it's bestiality, you don't want to be known as a repeat offender.

The Welsh sheep shagging thing comes from a time when stealing a sheep was punishable by death, having sexual relations with a sheep brought a lower sentence, so anyone caught with a sheep that wasn't theirs would plead guilty to sexual relations rather than theft.
@michaelccozens
@michaelccozens 2 жыл бұрын
That's amusing, but I don't know that it follows. Even if you stole the sheep to rape it, you still stole it. Seems like claiming bestiality would just earn you a second charge, though that's kinda moot with a death penalty on the first.

Countdown is a serious quiz show. 8 out 10 cats is a comedy panel show. A few years ago channel 4 experimented with mixing comedy shows with quiz shows. This was the most successful of them . Ironically 8 out of 10 cats in it’s original format has pretty much finished. Countdown is still really popular in it’s original format

Vicar of Dibley was one of the comedy sitcom where there was plenty of innuendo jokes. If you get a chance watch it.
